It depends on your attitude. I don't like combat so Doctor is perfect for me. I also like being able to rez and buff. Doctors have no offensive abilities, but CM's have several good attacks for combat.

They both have their role. During combat a Doctor can't do quite as well as the Combat Medic for healing. That reduced range is a major issue, depending on how you experiment your ranged stims a doctors stims can do substantially more per use. A Doctor's main role in a group is to prepare the team before and after combat. Using enhances, and fixing wounds. While combat is going on that Combat Medic is a lot more efficiant and keeping the group alive.
With pet combat however, not as much of the party gets damaged and a Doctor can just park himself next to the pet to keep it alive without having to move too much. If you get into combat against groups or PVP then that doesn't really work and that range is a major benefit.
