To make buffs if you need master doc or can you get away with just a certain limit to the skill tree?
Like what would you need to make decent buffs that you don't have to master doc?

You need master doc to make decent buffs. xxx4 with +20 skill tapes would give you 11 experimentation points, but you still wouldn't have the schematic for the secondary D buffs.

tbh if you wanna make buffs.. best of mastering doc.The skill tape way would be extremely expensive but would help, but what would be the point without most of the D buffs schem which u get as MD.
