Thread: Experimentation on Buff Packs? Are you joking me?

I have been a long time weaponsmith and dabbled in armor crafting and have recently tried making buffs. I have 11 experimentation points but the experimentation on buff packs seems COMPLETELY screwed. First of all, I get many more fails and good successes than I ever do in weapons or armor. Secondly, even if I get all great successes it still takes all 11 points to get max effectiveness. In weapons and armor, great successes generally add 6-7% whereas in buff crafting it seems that I'm lucky if I get 3%. The results aren't even that consistent. I was just wondering if this was an accepted issue or it is being corrected. Has it always been like this? Thx for any input.

Effectiveness works on both duration & power at the same time, but only displays the best result. A great success does add 7% onto the effectiveness, but a great success could mean that it was great on duration only and something worse on power.

So this is working as intended? I don't see how 10 point smiths could ever max effectiveness unless they were a force sensitive crafter, lived in a research center, and drank bespin like it was going out of style. Why wouldn't they just split the line into two separate lines if this is the case?

They may yet do that. It's something we mention often and they didn't say no to it. But I don't see it happening pre-cu.

/sigh, any advice on how to experiment then? I typically have been doing 7 point experiments off the bat but not having such good results. Would I be better off doing 1 at a time or something in-between?

I typically go 6 then 2, and usually left with one box that doesn't actuallly affect the final % (maybe it does in fractions) and put the last 2 in charges. I don't have any skill takes sadly. I can usually get close to 900 power with that setup unless an experiment fails on me.

The issue most likely is the DR on your avian sucks. If it does it will force you to use the 11th point to max out the power.

Try some avain with better DR and you will find that the power gets maxed with 10points.

I use 2 points at a time. You can see a little bar on the right that will show if you have increased the danger of geting a poor result.

I just do one point all the way, and use Bespin Port for the last 5 experiments of the line if the first 5 go well.

i usually go 3-3-2-2into effect/dur and 2 points into charges and dont find doc crafting to have any problem at all, i can usually run off a set off buffs 1st time w/o bespin, reaserch center or FS, i would take a look at the resources your using. granted i rarely get amazings, but if i do i usually stop that crafting session and start a new one because to get the same result on all of the buffs i would end up wasteing alot of avian/gas.

I Don't use the port, or cake either.. unless im making something for me, myself.. and I.. If im making a factory run off Buffs, i never use it.. I don't see the point, of having one (or more)buff different to the rest. consistancy, me thinks its called.. meh..

Regarding the points used, always start withtwo 4's.

I do experiment one by one, seems to get better endresults if you try a few times to max eff. Great Success isnt always same increase of Eff.
