Thread: * Cybernetic Implants *
Hello All!
As some of you may already know, over time the devs are adding crazy master-master professions to the game, starting with the 'Urban Planner' profession that follows 'Master Architect'. By announcing these new professions so far in advance, the devs are leaving themselves open to badgering from players (payers) with wish lists for future master-master professions. I'd like to get the ball rolling with what will be, duh, obviously the most important addition to Star Wars Galaxies.
Profession: Cybernetic Surgeon, Required: Master Doctor
The Cybernetic Surgeon touring the galaxies in search of choice ingredients with which to craft cybernetic implants: prosthetic enhancements or replacements to the natural nervous or skeletal systems of sentient life forms. After collecting the massive amounts of resources required, the Cybernetic Surgeon enlists the aid of a Master Bio-engineer to compose the DNA template of the invalid (or volunteer) candidate for implant. Using this template, the Cybernetic Surgeon crafts a neural-control-chip mold, and with that mold the neural-control chip itself. After crafting the chip, an implant is created, and installation surgery is performed.
The Cybernetic Surgeon profession would be sooooo nifty!!! Think of the implications to the game world!!!
Massive Wounds (Purple Rot): Some uber enemies/players in the game can inflict Massive Wounds on a player character! This "Purple Rot" cannot be healed by conventional medicine, only replacement of the wounded areas with cybernetics can save the day (and the player character from a semi-wounded life)!
Amputations: Jedi, Fencers, and Heavy Swordspeople can actually lop off limbs during battle (severely diminishing the limbless player's green bar with Purple Rot)! You know you want to see that: ultimate ownage! Also, you know you don't want to mess with the Imperial Brawler that's flipping you off with his huge, hydraulic-powered, dolovite finger! (Of course, there could be natural looking implants and replacements as well.)
Permanent Enhancements: You're an entertainer that wants to dance faster and harder than the other girls in the cantina? Get an implant that boosts your Green farther than any Green has gone before! Well, your Blue has suffered for it, but who needs Blue anyway- medics are ***edit***! You'll have maintenance done on that enhancement, or the effects will be detrimental. But entertainers are the wealthiest class in the game, right? So why not splurge with some of that tip money?
Jedi Enhancements: Yeah right! For every implant you get, your strength with the force gets less strong! If you already didn't think twice about dueling those SIth wanna-bes, you will now!
Yes, SWG is a game that has much character graphic variety as it is, but why stop there? Cybernetics meshes and matching would be hard to implement, I know! (I agree with the Pistoleers, too... everybody should be able to sheath their weapons, no matter how hard a change it is. And the 'pistol flourish' thing? LOL! Whomever thought that up is a no-kidding genius! Sheathing is tried and true MMORPG stuff- put it in before you start working on Cybernetic Surgery!)
Cybernetic Surgery is a change that actually makes a difference in the fabric of the universe!
- Gives you more stuff to do (advance to Cybernetic Surgeon).
- Gives the players more stuff to do (find a Cybernetic Surgeon, a Bio-engineer, and the insane amount of credits that it would get to buy and maintain the implant).
- Of course, there would have to be a slight re-balancing of higher level enemies (once again, a chore, but something that is inevitable as an MMORPG matures) and the addition of newer enemies that inflict purple wounds and lop off heads... err... arms!
- The stakes will be raised and the tension palpable when shooting at that Whatever Natch means that you might well lose a leg! (Can a Master Brawler pick up his leg and beat the mob with it? No... maybe that's too much...)
