....ask for 1c per 1h on a pet?

I'm always being asked to heal pets out in the field and in town. Some of these pets are have almost no Health or Action left and have max HAM of 9000+.

Is it wrong of me to refuse treatment if they don't want to pay? Even though with the Stim-E's I make, I can heal a 9k HAM pet in 3hits from almost zero health/action. Or, is it expected of me since I am a doctor to perform these services for free?

I don't mind healing at all... if I see a PC that needs some healing (where ever) I swing by and give them a hit and keep going. Or, I will hang out in medical to heal wounds (I don't ask for tips there). I have 2,4,3,4 in doctor and seek the XP's necessary to master the doctor profession. Since they did away with pet XP's, I don't get anything from healing them (except for some satisfaction). These Stim-E's aren't cheap to make..yada..yada..yada..

I would be interested in hearing what others are doing or how they are handling this.

Thanks!!

I've never had a problem asking for payment for healing a pet. Most folks are happy to do it.

Believe me, the folks with the pets can live without you healing their pets. If they just relax for a while, their pets will heal themselves (although, with 9K Hams, it'll take a while). You're offering a service. Don't feel bad asking for a little something in return for that service.

If someone says they don't want to pay and that you should just do it for them because you're a doctor and that's what you're supposed to do, ask them to escort you to Lok the next time (for free) you need to pick up Lokian Wild Wheat for free (or Talus, or Dantooine, or wherever for that matter) because that person is a fighter and that's what they do. My guess is that they won't want to.

Althuogh, I think 1 c / 1 unit of damage is a bit steep. Any doc can heal damage like there's no tomorrow. Even at 1 c / 4 units healed, you're going to get paid 3000 or 4000 credits for healing the pet. I think that's nearly enough to pay for the Stim itself and you've only used 3 charges.

You can ask any terms you want for any person. You are not obligated to help anyone, despite what anyone else may say.

No argument I have ever heard is a valid reason why I should use expensive resources to help anyone that I don't choose to. Even novice medics can charge whatever they think is right. It doesn't matter if you're getting xp (they got xp and money for the missions they do), it doesn't matter if you're in the med center (you're there to offer your services for hire), it doesn't matter if they don't have any money (go hump some intown delivery missions, and set aside some healing money in the future), it doesn't matter if they don't think it's worth it (If they can find a better deal, go for it), it doesn't matter if so and so medic does it for free (you should go find him, he has a great deal).

Every character should be able to acquire wealth in this game, be it a combat profession, a crafter, a medic, an entertainer, a chef, or a Bio Engineer. They should be able to do this using their skills, so for that reason, there is no reason not to charge what you like. The only question you should be asking yourself is if the market will bear the price you've placed on it. If you're in Coronet and someone is offering it for free, you'll be hard pressed to find takers unless they're impatient. If you're on Endor, you can set your terms, because they aren't likely to find any alternatives.

The sooner we Doctors realize that we're our own worst enemies with regards to income, the faster we'll be past the 'money issue'.

Try this: /say Sure, butit's going to cost ME $xxx to heal YOU.

when people realize that the heals aren't free to US, then they usually offer to pay for it. Make sure to include your desired profit when you quote your "cost", because using a stim AT COST causes lost opportunity cost.

Side note: It doesn't seem right that we can heal AT-ST's with a stim...

Why not? Just because we can't reach any higher than to inject a needle into their big metal toes? What's the problem there?

Well, you could argue that AT-STs do have a human crew in them. Some of the damage you stim is the damage they are taking. Then again, that also means we should be able to bleed, poison and disease them too. Take away one, take them all away. Leave any one of them and they should all stay, IMHO.

I think it should stay. I just think it's somewhat...humorous.
