Thread: Squad Leader + Doctor?
Hello all,
I'm currently working in the squad leading field and am considering augmenting my skills with that of either Doctor or Combat Medic. Of course I will always seek Masters in both fields to join my groups, but sometimes you can never find a good surgeon when you need one ![]()
If I master both Squad Leader and Medic (totaling I believe 212 points) that leaves me with only 38 points to "dabble" in the higher healing arts. I want to provide as much benefit and support to my squads, in both PvP and PvE, as I can with the points available. I would plan on simply buying the best products I can use from established Master Docs/CMs so I don't need any of the crafting abilities.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The things that intrigue me about dabbling in Doctor (what I want 1-10):
(10) Reviving Fallen Players - most useful skill in the field out of any profession
(4) Healing Poisons/Disease - mostly for prolonged PvP fights
(2) Enhancement Buffs - I would generally seek Master Docs to buff me and my troops, but if none are available it'd be nice to provide a little extra buffage for the groups.
Things that intrigue me about dabbling in Combat Medic (what I want 1-10):
(8) Ranged Stims - Ideally in battle I'd like to /sit in the back, orchestrate the attack and lob Stims and Squad Leader buffs on my teammates. (Quick question, if you range stim a tank on your team, but an enemy is in range, can you inadvertantly heal the enemy (either PvE or PvP)?) Also, are ranged stims different than typical Stim A-E, or are they the same things just thrown?
(4) Poison attacks - Nice to have ina PvP pinch, but if I can't master CM will these be effective at all?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's what I'd like to know from the community. Am I overlooking any attainable, useful skills? What would be the most effective use of my remaining skills points (38) to attain the goals above? Is it possible to be able to both/revivePlayer and use ranged stims effectively with the points I've got left? And do you think the demands on Mind costs will be prohibitive (assume max mind/will/focus for a human)?
I thank you for any help and advice you can provide.
-Psquire, posting this on both boards for completeness
At 38 points, I don't think you can really "dabble" in both effectively.
Here are a couple things I'd like to point out.
- Revival is great but, with the high powered buffs (and some common sense by my fellow players) I very seldom have to revive anyone. However, to get the buffs, you're going to need to spend at least 24 points in Doctor (that's to use C level buffs, 27 points to use D level buffs).
- If you want to be able to apply those buffs and go on to revive fallen players, you're going to up to 32 points, which leaves only 6 which is good enough only for Novice Combat Medic and that doesn't get you much.
- You could go for revive only and not get any points in med knowlede. That would leave you with enough points to get up to Expert Combat Medic Support in Combat Medic. That would allow you to use most combat medic meds (but not all) and your range wouldn't be very good - you'd still have to be fairly close to heal someone. In addition, you'll have to find a doc that will make you resuscitation kits and experiment on ease of use to get them down to the 50 points that you'd have.
- As far as poisons go, I've heard that they're pretty useless unless you're a master CM. WIth 38 points, you certainly can't master so you might want to throw that out the window.
Here's my suggestion for spending the 38 points most effectively:
Get Master Wound Treatment - that will give you the ability to buff and revive players. This will cost you 20 points (including the cost of Novice Doctor).
Get Expert Medicine Knowledge - this will raise your medicine use skill high enough so that you can use teh level D buffs. This will cost an additional 12 points.
That leaves you with 6 points and nothing to really use them on. Intermediate Wound Treatment Speed and Intermediate Med Crafting are really useless for what you want to do. You could always spend the 6 points on Novice Combat Medic and see what you think of that class. If you like it, you might want to rething your objectives.
I hope that helps.
That helps a great deal mcglonec ![]()
Your suggestion is exactly the line I was thinking of taking, I just didn't know if I'd have enough left over to be even modestly effective with ranged stims. I think your line makes the best sense because both SL and Doc/CM eat mind like a fiend. Going your route I would be able to focus on Squad Leader Commands during battle and the occasional emergency heal (instead of constant ranged heals draining even more mind) and then after battle I can revive fallen comrades and rebuff them in camp. A pretty neat subdivision of my mind's time.
And with my extra 6 points, hmmm I might decide I need to hold something stronger than a CDEF pistol, don't want the troops to laugh at me ![]()
Thanks much,
