since the incoporation of survey interests most of you, you might be interested in this thread, as it is starting to gain momentum:

This is a point I made:
"In all seriousness, the main desire is not in wanting self sufficiency, but instead of wanting to be on comparable ground with the other crafting classes. In this sense, other crafting classes get basic survey with their 15 skill points in novice artisian, and so the medical class simply wants this same benefit since they need to craft as well, and if nothing else simply include basic survey with the novice medic skill. This will then make everyone happy. There is also no reason why a copy of the survey column couldn't be added to the medic tree so that medics (and BE's) who wanted to move up that line of skills could do that)

we are simply asking for a level of fairness with the skill points, thats all."

My two creds on this topic. . .

Well, I personally think that we *are* on a level playing field with other crafting classes. How so? We spend the same 15 skill points as they do in order to survey . . . it's just that the survey skill isn't "included" in our tree: we have to pick up a small part of the artisan tree. You made the suggestion that the tree be 'copied' into the medic tree. . . why? If it still cost 15 skill points, and you just added a 'fifth-branch' to the medic tree, you haven't gained anything. Maybe you are thinking that, well, you still have to get the 4 boxes of survey. . . but at least you don't have to get the 'novice' artisan fifth skillbox. . . fair enough.

I think the real 'issue' is that the devs put medical forage into the medic skill tree under pharmacology branch. This leads medics to believe that we should be able to just use that skill to take care of our medical needs. Well, this is sorta true. IMHO, Medical Forage should be 'good enough' to allow us to in a not-too-long-amount-of-time gather enough resources to make A, B, and C level meds "in the field". Not mass producing them, but be able to, in an emergency, get some medicines made. But if you want to place a harvester to feed your factory, you still should need survey. . . or get someone else to survey and/or harvest for you. Or spend the 15 skill points on getting Survey.

It's all about trade offs. To go back to your statement about being in a comparable situation to other crafting classes, think of it this way: If a weaponsmith wants to actually *use* the weapons they make, they have to take part or *all* of another skill tree (marksman or brawler branches, and possibly 'elite' battle classes). Medics get to use the stuff they make with just *one* skill tree.
