I Mastered Doctor with my alt last night so arming myself with buff packs I headed out to Coronet on my server Chimaera. I had tested the packs on a friend and knew they would give me buffs of 1900 plus for 2.5 hours. Not sure about price I decided to charge 8k for the buffs as that seems to be the lower end price with the norm at 10k.

Nervous as hell I set up a spot a little way from the starport where there were 2 other docs buffing both with big queues, one charging 10k and another 8k. Not having buffed beforeI set up my shout and settled in to getting the buffs done when another Doc turned up, sat next to me but didn't say anything.

I had a couple of tells as you do about stats and duration which I wasn't advertising as this was mainly a test run for me to see what I would need to do to tweak things and make my life easier. Aftera little whilethe Doc that had sat next to me started shouting "Doctor Buffs 8k, all stats 300 more than Alu'ra's"

Iwas a bit surprised at that asI could see there were more than enough customers to go around but then to my complete amazement he buffed one of my customers who had already paid me by banktip with a "There you go have a free buff" What was the point...I got 8k as the customer didn't ask for his money back and the customer got a buff which he had already paid someone else for?!?

Still suffering from first buff jittersI finished the list I had, said I wan't buffing anymore and packed up my droid, asI needed to get more packs anyway andI wasn't in the mood to get into a pitch war on my first night.

No sooner had I moved away than the other Doc packed his stuff up and headed to the starport without a word leaving behind a queue of people looking for buffs which I'm sure they would have accepted from either one of us.

I'm all for a bit of competition and I know that there will always be other Doc's buffing at places like Coronet just because of the amount of people that go there looking for buffs but I really don't see the point of trying to start some sort of buff war and then walking out on people who are willing to pay you for the 'better' buffs you are offering.

Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

Woah! That is all kinds of rude. I would have totally called him/her on it. LOL But I am more outspoken when it comes to stuff like that. Welcome to the profession. My suggestion would be to read what Envie wrote about her style under the buffing for money thread. I have used those same techniques myself, with great success.

After a while you will have so many regular patients, you won't need to advertise much, at least that is my own experience. I usually always buff in the same spot too, for two reasons.

A) my patients know where to always find me if I am logged on, and B) most docs on my server respect other docs spaces, so I can set up inside the starport every time I buff, even if there are other docs around, without worrying that I'm on their turf. If i dont' know the doc, I'll send them a tell saying hi and that I usually buff here, not trying to take any customers, just being convenient for my patients. I've never had anything negative from it.

I too have just mastered doc on monday and found on the Lowca server not too much of the shadow doc and price war.

Though, I have been subjected to the "mine are better than his " spam. I started of the same way you . Very nervous and jittery as the first que I had quicly ran up to 15-20 in a matter of moments. Mind you I was at 3/4/4/1. My initial stats were 1850 for 3 hrs (843 base and 90med use) I started off at 5k due to most of the 10k buffs were for 2200 or more. (figured that way I could get a little mony under my belt so I could buy the resources to grind crafting. Once I got to Master is where I got the stiff upper lip from the other Doc's. I get the better buffs though I dont have bio'd clothes. didnt think too much about it untill I was getting spamed . "I have 2400+ for 10k this guy cant even get over 2k"

That was a little harsh I thought. However a good master tailor I have know since last july sent me a /tell and gave me som +25 pants. BAM 2470+ just like that!! So I chose to re spam my shouts and put my stats in. All of a suden the same doc who was using Ironlung meds (for you Lowca ppl) asked me if ironlung came out with new meds.

Prequel to this. Ironlung meds are really good and WAY over priced....900 base 3.5 hrs for 150K per crate 5sets in each20 charges (on the ones I looked at). Now thats 1.5k per hit X's 6 hits and you got 7.2K in cost. Not a high profit margin. My meds are 900 base 3.5 hours for 89 med use, a full set of 5 per crate and 25 charges go for 315K. Thats about 1/2 the cost and teice the profit???go figure. I believe half the reason for this spam is the lack of profit for some doc's. with a 26% profit (which is good in any buisness) there is some what a greed to get more (prolly so they can buy another holo and grind that as fast as they can . rinse and repeat.) though thats a nother post. my profit and cost are the exact opposite (25% cost 75% profit) I can afford to free buff and discount when I forget to resupply the bivoli on my macro.

(back to story)

I said no I wasnt. he /tell me again where did you get them?? I sent no reply. I continued to I gnore his /tell's and continued to take his clients. I felt, for a short amount of time, bad that he was losing his que. Through no cheap shots, nor spam hating, did I take his customers. Just by being the fair and balanced doctor that I am. Now less than 5 days later, I have ppl that will travel across the Galaxy for "Bantha Corp. Advanced Genetic Enhancements"

Thanks for reading and I hope you other Doc's out there can be a friend to the surgens that rise through the ranks to master this fine and profitable profession.

that person was bored and just wanted to bug you. The most awsume time to buff in coronet on my server is sunday morning. NO other docs aruond. I can have a line 20 people long for 3 hours. Make about half a mil to a mil.

I charge 8k or 7k depending. Many people tip 10k but I think 10k is getting kinda high, some of those people will not make that much money if they are lower end. Everyone once in a while someone will say "i am 600 short" and I will say no problem.

If i have competition i charge what they charge as long as it is not under 6k and often I will talk them into 7k or 8k. One time I charged 9k cause he wanted to charge 10k so we agreed on 9k.

I have never seen any one do that, the whole mine are better thing. Not once have I ever, but I tend to leave when there is more then 2 docs around.

What, Do you think fools are only buffies? They are also Buffers.

It happens.

This weekend I log in and as soon as I do I get a bunch of tell's for buffs. I say sure, I will buff you for 10k a set and my stats are 2.2k for 2.5 hrs+. I get a fast line formed. Standard stuff. I only have time for a few before my friend gets there and we go hunting. (Dant Mining Outpost)

All of a sudden a guy comes and sits right on top of me and spams "1.9k buffs for 8k". Then he slaps me and says he was here first. Wow, I could not believe it. I have been buffing for a long time and have never had that happen. There was another M. Doc there who I know. We chat about this guy and are both stunned.

It happens man, it happens. Remember there all kinds of fools out there.

Avoid setting up shop right next to someone and try not to undercut (if there is a line there is no need to undercut, in fact you should up the price assuming you have the same quality). That's all the advice I can give you.
