I could give you plenty of advise, but first I'd like to know how you plan on using Doctor?
Do you want to be supportive on the battlefield by healing and buffing?
Are you looking to make lots of (relatively) easy money buffing?
Are you interested in creating your own medicines?
If you do create your own medicines, are you interested in selling to others?
There are several different roles you can take as a doctor (if you're creative), that's why I love this profession.

thanks, well since i plan on retaining my TK skills, i am looking more for a battelfield support, and 2. buffing general public. i will try to make my own meds but we will see how that goes, as i am currently a smuggler on this toon and make all my own stuff. i wont have a vendor since the big nerf killed that. and i wont have enough skill points for merchant. so i most likely wont have a vendor unless i get rid of combat.

OK, well since you might want to craft your own meds I'll recommend checking swgcraft.com and iootnega.com regularly to keep up with what resources are on the server(s) that you like to play on.
Resources you want to keep your eyes open for are Class 4 Liquid Petro Fuel, and Dolovite Iron, as they are very specific and sometimes you'll only see a good spawn once every couple of months (followed by a few really bad spawns). iootnega.com categorizes medical resources by what component it's found in, which will help you to realize what resources you use most for your meds.
It is generally accepted that when you craft an advanced biological effect controller, it's most beneficial tospend the most exp points on the charges.
When crafting rez packs don't worry too much about the stats, even when I make them in crates the stats always work out differently anyways.
If you purchase your own avian meat don't be supprised if the prices is over 100 credits per unit on your server. I find it more benificial to hunt my own avian meat (because I'm a cheap S.O.B.). Better quality (not just o.q.) avian mean and reactive gas will go alot further than having the best subcomponents, point for point. That doesn't mean you don't need great components, but the end result is most determined with avian meat and reactive gas.
Buffing in a starport can get very confusing. I always recommend having 4 macros :
1. /sayprice - ex: My current stats are on average XXXX for X hours...XX credits.
2. /replyprice - same as above
3. /saylineclosing - ex: I'm sorry, I'm closing my line, everybody who has paid will be buffed though.
4. /replylineclosing - same as above
Keep these macros on your toolbar and you won't need to spam. Believe me, just having a Master Doctor tag up will generate all the business you need most of the time. Before closing your line take your Master doc tag off so people will stop bugging you.
Being a doc on a raid or elsewhere in PvP is great, but the first thing I'd recommend is to not go out on the battle field with your Master Doc tag (or any other), and while your at it make your character non-searchable. This will keep your enemies from recognizing right off that your a doctor and may keep you alive longer so you can help others.
Hope that helps some, when I think of more I'll post here.
[EDIT] doh, got the clickys wrong

This is a great post. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I made Master Doctor yesterday and I have decided that I want to get into the business of crafting my own medicines and such. I figure it would be a nice change from my alt, which happens to be a Master Bounty Hunter/Master Pistoleer. Nice change of pace.
As far as becoming a doc, I am also a TKM (what a surprise
