Thread: My rules for being a doc in the field too mean?

1) If you are injured/poisoned etc, get your butt within 7m of me, or you're gonna die. I'm not moving, you are. (Cause if I move, then I'm out of range of the tanks, and then THEY die and the cycle continues).

2) Unless you're so dizzy you fall down. Then say so. And I'll come get you if I can... but if you're not getting actively whupped, maybe I'll just let you stand up on your own.

3) Rez you during a battle? Hah! So you can be unbuffed and die AGAIN? Just wait.

Yeah so these sound kinda harsh, but it seems as if people have lost all common sense about what sort of tactics to use when they are actually being injured in the field instead of having their god-mode on.

Any thoughts? Additions?

They sound good to me. You have to have a few structured rules when working with a large group. If you just have 4 or 5 people that would be different. But large groups need to know exactly where to find the Doc when needed. Stay put and keep the tanks going strong. The hunt goes much faster that way.

I tend to operate pretty much the same way, though I do stay back from the tanks and use me ranged healing (CM) abilities. Everyone I go into combat with knows that rule number 1 is to always run TO the healer never away. I will use /drag followed by /revive to rez people who are in range depending on the situation. The way I see it, our part as docs is to watch the group's HAMs and states and be ready to help anyone who is in trouble. That doesn't mean chasing one person around when he/she needs help.

These rules sound quite solid. Next time I end up working with a group, I'll have to remember to try to follow them myself. I'm sure it would make me a much more effective Doc out there. Thanks much!

Wow, strict.

I'm a M.Doc, M.CM so I can do the ranged healing and area healing htings. For dizzies, I don't bother unless it's life-threatening because as soon as I heal the dizzy, they are dizzied again. I will drag corpses to a safe place a rez and tell them to wait their 60 seconds and get get buffed again after battle.

I really have one rule for large groups:

1) KEEP ME ALIVE OR YOU ALL DIE!

If I'm there to keep unarmored jedi alive, the group better do a good job of keep my butt out of trouble. With master doc/master CM, all I ahve for combat is 4114 marksman...ei, no defenses whatsoever.

It doesn't seem bad at all. I don't even bother curing dizzy, mainly cuz there are typically more than enough tanks. I learned the hard way to tell everyone that if they leave the room the group is in (i.e deathwatch, geo caves) that i won't go to heal them until the room is cleared (died way too many times running 40m this way, 60m that way, and dying myself). Since i typically stay near the tankers, if someone is off trying to take on a battle droid by themselves and needs a heal i tell them to bring it near me, where they can get more help (and a heal). I think docs have to be strict, because once we die on something like the vette or the bunker it's all over hehe.

That's about right...

Too many people think the doctor is there ONLY for them, and gets to say "to hell with the rest of the team because so-and-so is injured." I'm also a Master of Teras Kasi, and I can hold my own if I must, but my job is to keep EVERYONE alive, not just 1 or 2 people.

If you're a dedicated healer, what can you possibly doing that's important enough to keep you from running to those that need healing? Are you sitting there crafting stims or what? When I play a dedicated healer I of course run around to find those that need healing. It's my job, and pretty simple once you have a hotkey bound to follow/stopfollow.

2) Unless you're so dizzy you fall down. Then say so. And I'll come get you if I can... but if you're not getting actively whupped, maybe I'll just let you stand up on your own. Sounds good although if they are within 15m it turns into a discretion issue of whether or not you want an active combat profession back in the mix right away or not or if they are worth curing.

3) Rez you during a battle? Hah! So you can be unbuffed and die AGAIN? Just wait. No! Bad bad doctor! Even unbuffed they can still add real effectiveness to the battle. Popping a muon will make a rifleman or swordsman pretty darn effective especially if they engage targets who's concentration is on another of your team. Doing a drive by REZ isn't that hard to do.

Any thoughts? Additions? Lay down strategy and rules BEFORE the battle. That eliminates alot of the problems.

Be sure and declare what your role will be. You're either mostly heal support and a little combat or alot of combat and little heal support. Each one carries responsibilities and burdens. If you go heal support then you ARE there for the groups benefit which might not be accomodating (its combat for god's sake).

Have a bodyguard or entourage assigned to you if you go all heal support. Less for you to have to worry about if you become the target of an enemies attention especially when running into really hairy areas.

Being harsh and strict in a battle is a necessity! Otherwise there is too much chaos and little organization when your group begins the engagement. Just be sure of the role you are going to play and stick to it as the combat professions are sticking to theirs. Over focusing on their role is what causes them to run around like chickens with their heads cut off and can only be overcome by practice and discipline.

I'm assuming these are rules for high end NPC hunts, such as the Vette and DWB. Anything else is easily soloable by the "tanks".
