I have to agree with most of Ranger community, afk hunting is bad for people who actually take the time to hunt. Supply and demand is the way to go, not afk hunting.

A well written out idea and I sympathize with your situation, but I dont like the idea.

Interesting read and interesting idea.

Actually I'm on the other side of the coin, I'm a Master Doctor/Novice Rifleman (working toward master) and have no merchant skills. Thus I can conduct my own hunts and harvests (gotta love a harvest droid) but can't sell, so I'm working a deal with merchants in my guild.

The only killer now is that there is no avian meat on Eclipse yielding decent stats...

However it does make me again wonder why Docs have crafting at all. R/L doesn't show any doctor getting the knowledge to make his own medicine, (healers, nothing more), so I wondered why it's in game. I'd presume it's to add a certain flavor to the class as otherwise not much interest would be there. (Not that I'm complaining, I love the crafting side)...

The meds have to made by someone and the game has no pharmaceutical scientists. The logical place to put this kind of crafting was in the medical professions.

As a DOC I somewhat sympathize on the expense of getting the meats, as A scout knowing how hard it is and how much time goes into getting just 10K of it, Yeah I want a ton of money considering I just spend a few hours getting the stuff so you can spend 3 min makeing 5-10 schmatics and then let the factory do all the work.

A harvesting tool, no sorry. They already took out the tool that was a village reward that harvested creatures.

Currently the only income and purpose of a scout/ranger is their hunting. Put in a tool that harvests AFK and you would make no point to dabbleing. People would stop hunting and you would see a even larger shortage of organics, because of the shortage of master rangers.

I am in agreement that the afk portion of this just shouldn't happen.I wonder, however, if the concept of a trap needs to be totally discounted?

Trapping is part of hunting, however the automatic harvest isn't. Would there be any room in the game to set a trap, have it work (but also maybe not), then leave the hunter with the task of killing a very angry creature? Or possibly that creature, it's mate, two uncles, and the mother in law?

Plus there could be more situations where the hunter becomes the hunted. Take the loading of the Velacoraptor (sp?) in JP, though technically not a "trap," that critter sure put up a fight! Hmmm.

For that matter, I wonder if a Ranger would have much room for hired hands... lol.

At least that would still require the much needed NON-AFK and not do all the work for the hunter.
