Thread: Tipping / Charging for services
Have a question for my fellow doctors. Are any of you starting to charge for you healing services up front?
Not trying to sould like greedy pig, but I am running out of cash crafting meds to use on wounded players who aren't paying for any services. Spent 3 hours healing in hospital yesterday and was tipped once for 1000 credits, 3 times for 100 credits. Total of 1300 credits for 3 hours of work. I went thru quite a bit of resources. Far more than 1300 credits worth.
Am halfway up doctor tree and the exp is nice, but going broke isn't. Whats the take on charging up front for healing?
Do it. Unless you are just looking to be altruistic you should probably always charge up front for the service.
Just expect to get a certain amount of abuse and being called greedy and such. If you can deal with that, though, it's probably the best thing one can do to continuously try to educate everyone that healing costs us money.
What would be a fair rate for healing? I was thinking about 1cr to every3 wound points healed.
I don't normally require a tip. I will heal someone for the xp now (almost master) and I might say something like, "tips appreciated".
Yesterday I have over 10K in tips for a 4 hour period. I was very surprised. Best night yet. I did put the "Master Surgeon" label on and maybe that helped. Also noticed that some of the more regular and perhaps hardcore players seem to appreciate the service and tip well. I suppose for some of them they have money coming out of their pockets.
Had one guy tip me for answering a training question!
Now a normal night might be 1K-2K in tips depending on how much I sit in the med center. I think you do what you need to do and change your strat. as needed. If another doc is in the center and he is not charging then chances are you won't get paid. But many people are impatient and look for the doc to get the healing done quick.
Just me 2 cents! ![]()

Im usually a pretty chatty friendly guy - answering questions, training ect. I usually never got any decent tips (200-500 , not looking for anything outrageous) and I moved to charging.
After bieng made fun of for about a month and not healing very many people, my standard response is now:
Sorry I do not heal / buff people.
The end.
It can be tough to charge before you hit master too because you need the xp. If you don't take it somebody else likely will.
I find I get my best tips sitting at the cloning center during a faction fight. Sit right out front with a droid and heal away. Players are often willing to tip quite well for getting them back into the fight ASAP. Burn victims often tip the best. ![]()
If I am charging, I tell the patient the cost up front. If he agrees, I start healing him. They pay me sometime during the healing process. I've never been 'stiffed', its not a huge amount of money. I can fully heal most people and petsfor 600 credits.
I firmly believe that 1 credit per wound healed is a fair system for pricing your services. Figure that a doctor can earn the credits a lot faster than the medics, so it is somewhat based on ability as well as the patient's wounds. Also they are getting exactly what you are healing.
Teach the patients that this is not communism...
The prob is what you're doing, not the tipping.
Go t oan off world like Endor, Lok, or Yavin.
Endor missions pay 20-26k each easily. One solid combat partner (esp one with a pet), and you're making money hand over fist. I made about 100k with2partnerstoday in about 2-3 hrs, and we were taking it casual.
Your heal exp will FLY in comparison to med center boo-boo healing. Nothing like wasting a charge of a wound pack C only to heal 25 health.
Docs are in high demand off-world. Plus, it's a lot more exciting than sitting on your duff in a med center or tavern. ![]()
When you're making the good money, you won't MIND blowing a few heals on the guys at the med center when youre in town. ![]()
