I enjoy a similar play style: Although I'm not a Pikeman, I'm a Master Doc and TKM with a small bit of Scout. I enjoy fighting alone, harvesting resources for artisans for decent prices, and buffing myself, and being self-sufficient in that regard. I also enjoy the multi-player aspect in terms of healing in med centres, and hanging out in cantinas healing action damage, and the occasional group hunt/quest with my guild. If I must relearn an entire system, maybe I'll suspend SWG (at least for a month in order to dodge the initial bugs that will probably be in the new system), and try World Of Warcraft for a while and see if I like it any better. Though I can't see myself enjoying a game setting any more than the current SWG one.
ArythBandar wrote:I'm a Master Doctor, Master Pikeman and with this new "upgrade" that will have to change. I like being a master doctor b/c I can buff myself w/o trying to find someone who can. I, also, like to play solo. I rarely enjoy playing with a group of ppl (unless my guild needs some help with something, or I'm helping a n00b player who just joined to level up). Now, it sounds like Master Doctor will only be usefull as part of a group. I don't want that. I want to keep my character the way he his and not have to deal with this idiotic new "upgrade."

All i can say is my 12 point sute better not become useless. The game needs to change no doubt. Nothing from the term "Combat Upgrade" or "Combat Revamp" would lead me to think "Crap my Doctor wont be able to Craft anymore". The combat system was going to change. I think we all knew buffs were going to be weakened and we could suspect that the healing system would also be changed. Maby even think what we crafted would change...they announced a new ham system a long time ago. But the actual act of crafting changing was never even hinted apon. If i would have known a year ago when they started working on the "combat revamp" before it became an upgrade but after it was balancing everything about where i am in the game would be diffrent. I created a "life" in the star wars univers just like the box said. Now yet more grief...
Im extreamly upset. We might get a couple awnsers but like alwase the NDA will stay up untill moments before official launch.

If with no skillpoints you can heal yourself and medics do all the crafting and buffs are a max of 20%(why not just remove them completely?)? I have spent the last 2 months aquiring med exp resources and 30k resource deeds in an attempt to open a med vendor. With these changes all of that is wasted(even if this is months away) I am 99% sure that I will quit as soon as these changes go live. Finally the addiction to this stupid game will be over.I believe Blain said that the stims will only heal up to 10% of your health bar per application. This would leave it wide open for a person to be buffed, even if only for 20% on a short term buff.
No info on stims was released. It did say that long-term buffs woud be around 10% and short-term buffs would be around 20%. Healing damage and wounds has nothing to do with buffs. My interpretation is that doc buffs (2-3 hrs) are long term, and thus would only be 10% increase, which can still be a lot for a 3000 health bar. Spice and food (short-term effect) would have a max of a 20% increase; more bang, shorter lasting--makes sense to me.
I would image the stims would keep their function as they do today. (Healing power is determined by the strength of the stim and the skill mods of the healer.) With the action/mind ability bars, which can't be damaged, healers will still be able to heal until they are incapped, but won't be able to spam healing (just as any single ability or special won't be spammable).

well im pretty upset because as a 4/4/4/2 Doctor 4/0/0/4 CM and novice pistoleer, i recently decided to start selling meds, and buffing(using boughtpacks) even though i was only 8 pt. Well to tell u the truth, i can make comparable stim B's and wound pack b's if i spend alota time and alota money searching for good resources. Mind u im a person who lives on the edge of bankruptcy constantly. Make 100k in space - sell 100k for resources etc. So after a few weeks i had spent the folowing -
25k - wound treatment hat
60k - bivoli crate
50k - factory
300k in small amounts of resources over a few weeks time
also had to arange skill points.. finally came to the realization i probably wouldn't be able to keep ANY combat if i wanted to harvest my own stuff and sell it
had to drop all my scout skillz to get artisan xx3x for a vendor (yippy im ready to craft)
make some decent stuff
CU UPDATE j00 doc's can't craft your gonna have to take up another 6 skill points(i think) for novice BE - "ok i definatley can't have any combat now"
everybody can heal themselves now : "bah well there goes me getting the occasional 1-5k tip for healing(basically my income atm)
buffs are reduced to 20% :" omg now i can't plan on buying a pack for 150k and making a 50k profit !!!! (almost no income in doc now)"
fine, theres no point , i'll just give up and go combat all teh way (i've never done serious combat b4 so i have 0/0/0/0 pistoleer and no good armor or ne thing[especially cash])
Your health is now based on your COMBAT LVL : "omg now i'll be fighting stuff with my guildies like a handicapped guy in NFL game"
combat upgarde* = me very unhappy
*i realize that there's very little info out right now, but they're gonna have to pull something especally for doc's out their @$$ in order for it to break even(certainly not Upgrade)

As I've said before, I'm also very concerned - for the crafting side of Doc and the resources and SEAs.
However, I've stopped panicking (still rocking in the corner a little tho). The initial docs dont state that you need to be MBE, just BE. Perhaps they have basically traded one line from Doc with a line in BE. This would mean that the 4 lines for each profession may even be changed, to say three lines. Or it may be changed to something we do not recognise. It seems they have pretty much decided to change the game from the ground up. So who can say if the 4 lines we know today will stay as is. I am guessing not. So, simply pick up the line in BE and you can craft again.....of course this is assuming alot, and some may even claim false hope, but I've got nothing else right now.....
Anyway, if you buy the new expansion early, looks like there will be a beta test available. Get it, test it, if it doesnt suit, start preparing, either to quit or change. I'm thinking Combat Medic looks good if Doc doesnt.

Well, lots of professions are getting a reshape, and it's apparantly for the greater good. I'm a Doctor/Combat Medic - I'm doubly sore over the whole thing
The resources are undoubtedly still going to be useful, Doctor isn't the only crafting profession...
Just wait for some more details to come out and it to be finalised, don't assume. Might find you like it!

I'm already sure I like the changes. I, though, have been preparing myself mentally ahead of time. You see, I took them at their word back when they said there will be major overhaul to the combat system, that buffs and healing would be affected drastically as well. I'm working hard to master doctor fast now so I can make some money to carry me over the initial wave. I just *know* there'll be a few weeks where people think buffs are useless, and won't come to us. Once people adapt, though, our buffs will be useful again (just not needed for every little thing), and we'll still have the medical crafting stuff from medic to sell stims. For the rest, we just need to be patient, wait and see.
Every time a change is made to the game, people panic. The global vendor search, the GCW changes, and so on. I think I even remember an uproar when vehicles were introduced (it makes the world seem too small!).
I am actually interested in playing a combat profession in the new system, which in the current I find incredibly painful.

excellent, excellent point Lom I was about to post the same thing. Up untill now Devs, Correspondants and SOE have insisted that the CU will be tweaks to the CURRENT combat system. But what they have essentially done is COMPELTELY REVAMP THE ENTIRE GAME FROM THE FLOOR UP. EVERYONE will have to relearn the ENTIRE game. And as someone posted earlier because the ENTIRE game is changing there will is bound to be major bugs, as is the history of SWG. When I first posted this i was like "cool fianally" and I as I read the CU information over and over again I am begining to realize that this might not be as good as it seemed. Once again untill more info surfaces we, the playing community will remain in the dark as usual, and in the end either get on board or get off.
Doctor is being revamped because it is considered a combat profession. Their role in combat is healer. Right now you hardly see any docs in combat, mostly because of insane buffs and armor. Since those will be balanced in the CU, the need for healers in groups will return. The Doctor profession will thus need be balanced in combat just like the other combat professions.

Is doctor really considered a combat profession? Though I am a new player, I thought Combat Medic was the combat medical profession (with area heals), and doctors were healers more out of the direct action (hence the need to be in a med centre, camp, or within droid vicinity, to heal wounds).
I'm not trying to start argument based on semantics here, I'm just curious.
