Thread: Doctor Top 5 (11/11/03)
I'm gonna try to keep this short - it's hard reading long posts ![]()
Actually /medicalforage isn't useless - I frequently /medicalforage on Death Worlds (oops, sorry, "Advanced" worlds) while in a city to see if there are any plant resources WORTH dying repeatedly for. It takes some time, sure, but it's faster than run/survey/clone/run/survey/clone... especially with the new decay stuff.
If you really want to get docs back in the medcenter, remove the TEFs for healing in the medcenter. If you're a master doctor, you'veGENERALLY got your other points in survey/hunting and enough pistol or CH to keep you alive while you're hunting/checking harvesters. You're not equipped to be an uber-PvPer, so the best you can do is sit down and take it. That's one reason I don't hang out in medcenters. Another reason is that there are SO many people now that arehologrinding medic/doc HONESTLY (e.g., not tumble-to-whatever-ing each other) that need the XP - I don't. I try to run through the medcenter every timeI'm in a town to see if there's anyone that needs healing, but I don't stick around. It's also annoying having to constantly ask people if they want their diseases/poison healed - about 75% of the time I'm in a medcenter and there's a medic and a diseased/poisonedperson, the person's been deliberately poisoned to give someone else XP.
Thank you for the quick response!
I am disapointed to hear that "(in other words, "No, you can't have it, but here's some stuff we are thinking about doing to /medicalforage, again!")." Medical forage does not give you the ability to choosewhatyou are foraging for nor are you able to determin the concentration of the resource. In other words it is useless... and I cannot see thje point of having the skill as you would also need to forage for DAYS to get enough to craft the medications. To get resources in any quantity you need a harvestor. I have tried looking for the resources on the bazzar and at private vendors, but finding the specialized resources is very RARE and when you do find them the price is through the roof...
Please let TH know that this needs to be fixed SOON. I realize that the Devs have alot on their plate with the develping expantions and updates, but this is not a new issue and has never been properly addressed. They have fixed so many things with the other professions it's time to fix the Doctor profession....!
Truthfully I'm not really expecting nor pushing for "soon" on this. /survey would be a quick fix, but there are, I fell, legitimate concerns on slapping that into the Medical line somewhere. I think something can and should be done for this, but overall we are one of the most functional professions in the game, despite the problems and issues that we do have.
I realy, really, really want to see something done of this issue, but I think we must be wiling to keep up that famoust Doc patience on this issue. I'd like to get the Devs to recognize the problem and then work with us on coming up with a reasonable and good solution. I think that will likely take some time. Several months at least, I would think, but you never know. It is a big issue for us with a pretty hgih priority so it may get a little bump on thier priority list. We'll just have to see.
Overall, though, I would just council patience on the issue.
BTW, I intend to see this one through despite my moving over to Medic Corre on Monday. Traigus, Pahdbacca and I work pretty heavily as a team anyway, but even so since I got the dicsussion started on this one I'd like to try to see it though. Besides I'm actually approaching this issue as one that affects all of the Medicl professions as it does show up on our list, the CM lists and the Medic lists as well.
Good work Zarlor!!!
Now the question is, will the Devs ever act on this list?? (Given that it has been a month since you published the results) My biggest gripe is item #1. Because of the specalized resourcesDoctors and Combat Medicsneed for the advanced meds we are forced to use 15 skill points just to be able to survey for the resources we need. Those skill points would be much better used advancingour combat or CH skills so thatwe have some way of defendingourselvs when out placing or servicing harvestors. Every time I have to go to Lok or one of the advanced planets to get Wild Wheat, Herbavor meat or Avian meat I end up getting killed, sometimes several times. This is especialy frustrating with the new decay rate.... The Master Doc and Master Combat Medicprofessionsaretwo of the few elite professions that require you master a basic profession first. The results are that you end up with much fewer skill points to put toward another side profession. I feel that this is an unfair disparity and having to use 15 skill points just to have a basic survey skill. If they feel that it takes away from the artisan profession, then make a specialized survey tool for Doctors and Combat Medics that has a limited number of uses and would only be available from an artisan.
Thanks for listening to me vent...
Actually we got partial responses several weeks back now, but it's a new process TH is working on with us at the moment. The whole Vehicles and the last Publish just kept shoving these response further out. At any rate he did say he hopes to work with us to get final versions out for the end of the week.
Personally I think we won't really get a response on Issue #1, but in part that is because I am trying to start a dialog on the issue. So while I'm expectimg more complete responses on the other issues I expect that the response on Issue #1 will remain exactly the same, for the moment (in other words, "No, you can't have it, but here's some stuff we are thinking about doing to /medicalforage, again!"). However behind the scenes i am actually hoping that they will start to respond to the first round of trying to get to the root of the problem for why we would need /survey and/or /sample types of skills to begin with. So we'll just have to see how that goes.
How about this as a solution?
Add the survey skill to the Novice Doctor - Combat Mediclevel and require that limited use (and limited range)tool(s) be used (similar to a weapon repair tool). That tool would be created by Artisans and sold to Doctors - Combat Medics. This in part is already in practice with the speciaized Food-Chem crafting tool and Food-Chem Crafting stations which are made by Artisans and Droid Engineers. It seems to me that this is an equitable change that will not undercut the Artisan profession and would be easy to wright into the game as it uses the same functionality that the current survey tools use.
On another subject. Any Idea when the Vehicle patch is going live?
Thanks again for the information...
That is just one of MANY possible suggestions that have been made on the issue.
As for the patch, like virtually everythig else I only know as much as anyone else does. Corres aren't really any more in the loop than anyone else is. And even if we were we probably couldn't tell you anyway. ![]()
Zarlor does a great job, doesnt he?
Im working with him on these issue. There is just a lot here and I dont want to brush them off. Earnest involvement takes a lot of time. Even now, I have to go look in on 37 other Top 5's....
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Yes,Zarlor does a great job. Too bad our profession won't see any change anytime soondespite his hard work.
Zarlor is by far one of, if not the, best Corre out there. He's done a superb job since the programs inception and will continue to do so as the Medic Corre.
As for changes...what changes do we really need? In all Honesty, Doctor(medic and CM as well, to some degree) are very well off. Our issues, for the most part, are minor at best and NONE can be labeled as 'game breaking'.
What changes may come should simply enhance our current, already Solid, Profession. There are other professions out there in dire need of changes and redesign. These professions(DE, Chef) deserve more attention, at this juncture, then we(Scientific Professions collectively) do.
Be glad, be very glad, that we are as well off as we are.
We have our communication(which, of course, could always be better), a fully functional profession and a hard working Corre(Z and Traigus). What more can we ask for?
Give it time...our turn in the spotlight will get here. Until then, enjoy.
