Thread: Enhance Pack Variability Poll (Another Vote!)
#2
Or alternatively, I would like the ability to reapply buffs while they are still on. If I could override an 800 point buff, with a potential 2100 point buff, problem would be solved (though I might have to apply 3 or 4 buffs before I am reasonably happy with the results). Buffing would be a gamble, but I wouldn't be forced to live with the results.
I'm not sure what criteria to use to determine if the new buff should override the old (don't want someone's B overriding someone's D), but at the very least you could look at the level of the buff.

Why make it a fixed buff? Ive never buffed for less than base.. EVER.. i always buff at least 2 to 3x base of the pack.
You always buff for 2 times the base? Really? Because that's not my experience as a master doctor buffing by a droid with a 110 medical module. I see a pretty even distribution between around base and 3 times base. I don't think I've ever seen less than the base though. Less than base might mean the person is in a basic camp, around a droid with a med module < 100, or not a master doctor.
I'll run an experiment tonight and report the results here. I have some garbage buffs (D's that crit failed on effectiveness experimentation) that I will use on my pet (since storing removes the buffs) andsee what the range really is (and how camp type and/or med module of droid) affects the range.
For what it's worth, I like the formula someone else posted - basically 100% of base + base * woundtreatment skill. So at master doctor you would effectively get a guaranteed 2 times base, a 0-4-4-0 dabbler would get 1.75 times base(wound treatment numbers may be a bit off) possibly affected up a bit a 110 medical module. Before I commit to that, I need to run my experiment and see exactly what the current range is.
Guys all I can say is that to the best of my knowledge NOBODY is talking nerf! THe issue was brought up because many Docs have mentioned (and voted this up as a top issue) that Hels and Enhances have such an extremely high variability, All we are talking about is reducing tha variability level. You won't be buffing for any less on average, if they make this change, than you were before. Your average buffs will continue to be the same. All that would happen is that the aoutriders, the occasional really bad buff or the occasional really awesome buff, will no longer be occuring. Instead you're looking at a more consistent heal rating.
Personally I don't see any kiind of nerf coming on this front. Too much of the ratings of too many other things depend on Doc buffs averaging out with a buff level like they currently do. And again that average WOULD NOT CHANGE! The difference, for example, would be that instead of a random number that would allow a variation of 1000 points, it would only vary 500 points. But no matter what you'd still be buffing, on average, for just as much as you already do.
the occasional really bad buff or the occasional really awesome buff, will no longer be occuring.
But why not keep those? As I said in my other posts, a solution where the really great kits would always get what we now see as the "occasional really awesome buff" and the really bad kits would always get what we now see as the "occasionally really bad buff" (and everything else scaled appropriately inbetween) seems much better. That way the best kits are still giving 3000+ buffs and they will be super valuable.
If there's a chance of getting a super awesome buff now and that goes away after a new system is implemented, then I see that as nerf. Like I said, I'd much rather have the best kits have the highest chances at the "super awesome buffs", than have the best kits always get a "great but not awesome" buff. -- But even more than that, I'd like it better if the great kits "always" got those super awesomes and the worst kits "always" got the worst.
Maniweh.
This is not a nerf but I can already imagine the doctor spamming the general discussion board when they make it a fixed buff and people can no longer buff for 2.5k ham.....
Ok. Convince everyone voting to just say No, then. Vote #3.
It's up to US to decide here. The default position at the moment means nothing changes. It's only looked at for a change because WE requested the change. Talk to your fellow Docs and convince them they are wrong to want this change.
My vote is staying for #1.

As much as I would like never to get an enhance under 1000 points, it happens so infrequently that it doesn't bother me. The enhance kits I use are D's and generally the enhances go from 1000-2800 or so.. I enjoy the variance but wish there was a way to experiment on it during the crafting process.. that way we could keep the enhancements the way they are but just change the packs, thus affecting the ratings associated with each pack, not the entire game.

Anyone in here worried that these could be an upcoming nerf on doctor because of pvp?
I never understood that. I haven't seen much nurf calling for Doctor because of buff and I assumed it was because we have no advantage over anyone else with buffs.
What I mean is if I buff myself or someone else, I as master doctor don't get any more benifit out of it than if I were to buff a BH.
And if anyone have a buffbot doctor for just buffing yourself(aka DAoC), then they are wasting an accout for no reason since you can get best master doctor buff from any major city for 2k - 5k per set.
And as for nurfing Doctor buff for favor of chef, I am not least bit worried since even now chef buff are not too shabby, and they haven't even started fixing their food schems yet.
since Food stack on themself upto 4 times, as well as drinks, it takes very little to make it way overpowered.
For example, if they just increase the food buff and drink buff by mere 100, then it isincrease of 400 and another 400 for total of 800 increase. And looking at Commando, I am betting they will do more than increase it by 100.
Once the whole hungry/thirsty timer is fixed andMaster chef are even made 10% better than it is now, each food would probably bufffor 1000. That would be 8000 buff with 4 food and drink.
and that is with 10% increase. If they go the way of Commando, they will probably make it 2000 buff. which equate to 16000 buff. 16 THOUSAND. Trust me. Once they start fixing chefschemetic, therewill be more fix and hot fix than you can throw egg beater at. And I am saving all by "WHAT ABOUT DOCTORS?!?" argument in my locked box for that occasion.
3.
Enhance kits are no different than stims or wound packs to me. Variance is to be expected, and I like it.
Zarlor would never let them nerf us without a fight.. and if hes askin us out opinion, and giving us a choice? then its not a nerf..
#1!!!! im a pikeman.. and i always buff the stats i dont need up to 2400.. and the ones i do need at 800.. its kinda sad.. its annoying.. so i buff at the med center right next to the cloning facility.. if they suck, i get my friend to DB me and i try over... ![]()
But I guess I could live with #1 if the variablity was set in a small range...

Well you can't really pvp in this game without a doctor. There are too many one shot kills that can only be cured by a doctor like poison, disease, kd/dizzy. If you get hit by disease or poison, there is absolutely no way you can get rid of it without a doctor. The doctors in the med center can't help too if they are neutral. They are going to get the message unwise to help such a patient.
