Thread: HAM and Buff Focus Thread
I don't like (though I know some of you do):
Sitting and healing wounds all day
Sitting and buffing all day
Sitting and crafting all day
I enjoy them each a bit, especially to help out a friend. My main fun was traveling with the fighters and keeping them alive. That, it seems, will be gone.
I can say ALL mobs and NPCs will be balanced to the new system (that includes the Corvette and DWB) mostly because they have to be... Everyone dies in the corvette now.
Healers will serve a useful role again as healers, in group and solo. That is the intent posted in the general doc you just got to read. The self heals will not be as big as doc heals because of the lack of PS used to get them (even the higher SP combat char stims will be weaker).
I can't say anything about crafting/ meds at this time.

OK with these modifiers who is going to bother getting a buff for most things, as i'm sure you will be able to survive just fine without them and only those wanting a slight edge will get them.
One word (well, acronym) PvPers. Buffs will probably still be viewed as important for anyone who is SF, as every little edge you can get in PvP is horrible important. For the rest of the community, I think you can probably expect to be asked by groups who are hunting high level mobs, but that might be it. Remember, we still don't have all the CU information, and what's been given out is subject to change.
We'll only know when the CU actually hits, and even then, it will take a while before everyone has it all figured out.

Thank you
That should be enough to quiet some of the moaning at least.

This is a complete, total slap in the face to new-style doctors, I agree.
But I remember a time before buffing became common when the role of a doctor was to go out to the field with combat groups and heal damage, states and poison/disease. Back then, if you were poisoned, you actually could die from triple incapacitation, and being diseased meant the hunt was over for you unless you got healed up. You didn't have 3500 HAM so you could afford to let a poison or disease tick.
If you had a good group - like most guild hunts we had - you were given a share of the loot for keeping the group alive. If you had a bad group, you got zilch. But it was fun anyways, and I didn't feel the need to get rich fast.
Now you can forget getting rich sitting in Coronet spaceport all day. 20% buffs means people will only want to buff if they need that extra 20% instead of being buffed all the timeby default. But was that fun anyway? Sitting for hours, clicking on your "Buffing now"-Macro every minute? But you will be able to earn your money in the field again because people will start taking damage again. Damage we doctors caused them not to take by allowing to wear uber-armor with our uber-buffs. And: we now have a group looting system so we are guaranteed our fair share of loot.
Trust me, this is not so bad after all. Being a field doctor is at least as rewarding as being a buff-doctor.

So your saying doctor was useful before everybodys hame was 3500 because of buffs....but now everyones ham will be 3000 without buffs. Explain to me how this is beneficial to doctors?

In battle healing has always been my favorite activity as a Doc. I'm really excited about the short term buffs! More powerful short term buffs have always been fun in play for me in other games. I think these changes are going to allow Doctors to have the full Healer gameplay I've always felt was missing from SWG, so I'm pretty excited!

I also figured that there'd be some things that would strike me as cool, and that would help balance out whatever was going to be ruined in my game play.
I expected a buff nerf. I knew it was coming. I thought I was ready for it, because, in the long run, it would be good for the game.
Now theyve released information about exactly what theyre doing. And I was wrong. I can see no benifit from this. My most beloved profession will be nerfed down to the point of being less useful than a creature handler is now. Buffs have been destroyed to the point of completele uselessness. No one will bother getting a 10% buff. No one. It doesnt even look like doctors will even be crafting anymore. Now an entire year of work. 250 million credits in reasources, and 45 million credits in exp clothes are useless.
I dont even know what to say. And for me, thats a big deal.

Full healer gameplay wasn't always missing in SWG. I know, I was a full-time combat healer(MD/MCM) at the start of the game. The introduction of uber buffs, uber armour, and overpower Stim-B's is what killed the healer gameplay.
These changes? They don't have me excited in the least. They have me mortified. Glad some folks like them...because someone else is going to have to take over the healing role when us old-timers leave...
I don't understand what has you "mortified" though. You say the early days of the game were best for doc/cm and I agree. They are making doc/cm the only people capable of healing other and they are removing uber buffs that allow people to solohigh level mobswith no doctor arounds. People will need healers in group again and I say "Thank God". Doctors have just been buff machines for a really long time except in PVP. That doesn't sound like what you enjoyed about the game so I am really confused by your protest.

Mind you, I'm not accusing vortexala of anything...
but it really seems like the CU will be bad for those who picked up doc to make piles of money. Buffing and crafting, according to the notes, seem to have been nerfed a bit. We've become necessary again, and not as someone who can work afk, or sit outside a starport, but as a group member. Yay us!

Okay, now you've got me worried. There is obviously another big change to the healing professions they have not told us about yet...I wonder what that may be.
