Depends on the type of PvP. If its large scale PvP (like 50+ on both sides) then ranged will be allot better. Lag is the #1 killer in big PvP spots. While with ranged you can genereally stay back and genreally be safe.
On smaller scale battles its up to you though
Fencer has great defence/dodge capabilities, but to get a good stun baton, it will will cost you 2mil+ for a good one
Swordsman has great damage, and a good power hammer can wreck massive damage to you. Low defence though
Pikeman has DOT lances, thats about it

Since your always in a group you might go Doc/CM.
I just moved to this template and it is a blast. You can heal anything and you can toss out as much damage as anyone. Believe me your team will love you.

Rifle/Doc is a solid template, but you might want to think about Melee/Doc if you'll be pvping in groups. Simple reason is that you'll find yourself running into the fray often to heal & cure the tanks, so might as well stay in the thick of it with them.

I personally strong suggest NOT doing rifle and doctor together. Both professions tax the mind bar very heavily. A doctor can not heal the blue bar, and a helmet makes the blue bar painful enough. So if you are in combat with your helmet on, sniping at people, and all of a sudden need to heal someone, you will find your blue bar is way lower than you would like, and you can't do anything to bring it up. Also there is the fact that you can not heal someone from 60 feet away. So if your friend tkm is taking a beating you must get up close to heal them, thus making your rifleman skills worthless. Also keep in mind that you must wait for your current action to complete before a heal goes off. So if you are using a rifle with speed of 5, you must wait for your current attack to finish which takes 5 seconds. That can be the difference between life and death.
As a fencer you use a very fast weapon, so are not limited in that aspect, it does not pull on your blue bar, keeps you up close to heal people, and also gives you major defense bonuses. A fencer/doctor in good armor makes an excellent tank, they can just sit there enjoying their defense bonuses, and heal the damage that they recieve.
Pike is of course good for the DOT, but really pike has nothing much else to offer to a doctor, it's weapons are way too slow and inaccurate to be useful to a doc that is spending most of their actions keeping people alive.
TKM does well of course, since TKM on it's own does well.
Pistols is actually a surprisingly good combo with doc. As a doc you spend a lot of time running around healing your allies, and pistoleer does not suffer so much when moving around in combat.
That's my opinion anyways.

Yes, I suppose so.
As a rifleman though, you would be focusing on your rifle skill not your doctor skills. Also yes, if you are planning on doing ONLY pvp, then migrate all to blue bar, brandy, ahrissa, moun gold, etc. However in non-pvp combat as a master doctor rifleman, I was seriously limited by my blue bar. So if you don't plan on drinking brandy, eating ahrissa, and popping moun gold whenever you want to do something as simple as kill some tuskens, then you are out of luck. So I guess my advice was to the person that wants to do pvp AND play the rest of the game. And let me tell you from experience, leveling up in rifleman will be very painful and expensive if you must drink two brandy and canape in order to get anything done. Perhaps other races would be better at this, as I am a twi'lek and we don't have a very fantastic blue bar.
And I think that a pistoleer/doctor in non pvp combat is a wonderful thing. I admit that I have not seen one in pvp yet though. Another reason I would think the pistoleer would do well is they have very good defenses. And if you plan on being the support part of pvp and heal your friends, then defense will be very important to you.
So no, ham is not an issue in pvp for the most part. If you are migrated to just mind bar (which still sucks pretty bad as a twi'lek, everyone asks why I haven't done it, then I tell them I DID), and eat and drink lots of mind chef foods, pop some spice, and get a nice pvp buff your ham bar will not be much of an issue. However it sucks if you need to get a buff in order to not get incapped by a dwarf nuna. And again, a doctor/rifleman combo takes a lot of blue bar, so it is rather tough to get far without your chef foods and spices.

Um...if you're pvping with anything less than migrated mind stats + brandy + entertainer buffs + muon (for emergencies) then you don't know what you're doing. HAM costs haven't been an issue since maybe December.
Do not factor in HAM costs to your decision to pvp....seriouslyWhat the Fpeople.
Rifleman/Doc = effective in large scale battles and good if you just want to keep yourself alive and heal those that might pass by
Fencer/Doc = Good if you actually want to heal those in the battle and be more of a support person
Doc/CM = Ignorant and hilarious. You are a completebass tard that is a tank and lethal (add autotick to impress your friends!!!!!11one).
Edit: And for the love of God don't be a pistoleer. If you just want to run around then be a fencer and run a COB macro. Damn people...

As a Doc/rifleman i finally got my PvP rating to 1368 from 1100. Head shots really deal some blows plus with the range you have with the rifle you stay far away from melee attackers. I took down a master BH with a mind fire DOT until he switched to his 600 dmg DE 10 but those weapons are few and far between. I have done solo kills as well as group. plus sniper shot is awesome. Gives you a chance to Db w/o getting close.i also am FS and have the ranged spped and accuracy tree completed. Also you have to figure a true healing profession is the combat medic. If you expect reg doc to help you in combat its tough Hench the combat medic profession. CM's aren't just ther to disease and poision. Area heals are pretty helpful. you have to look at your playstyle. What do you like to do. i got master doc cause i was tired of all the DOT's and looking for buffers. i Hate melee. Hokey religon's can't replace a good Blaster. Although Pistoleer is a whole other problem on its own. just my thoughts
