Thread: Question about buffs, guildies and expenses
Jaghas Jubatus,
Starsider
I had excellent buffs. They ran out. I used subpar buffs. They noticed the difference. They asked me what happened. I said I was out of resources, out of money, and could only afford to donate these crappy buffs.
Next thing I know, 5 people are harvesting every good medical organic/inorganic every time it came out. On hunts, I get the first pick of herbivore and avian before we sell to other crafters. I get tips, even when I tell them not to. They have taken my factories and freed up even more lots for me to drop 9 heavies on that latest/greatest spawn of xxxxx resource.
I haveat least 500k-1mil of each good spawning item (except CM stuff, we're working on that). The only thing I run low on is herbivore and avian... but all I have to do is say I need it, and a factory sized stack of 20k+ is mine for the taking.
If they don't want to pay, make them gather stuff for you. If they don't do that, make them buy GUILD USE ONLY buffpacks for you (i.e. you don't Starport pimp them to non-guildees for cash). If they don't do either of these, find a guild that appreciates you.
I don't even charge new people that are in my hunting group, but I expect them to give me the harvest. If they don't have scout/harvest, then they pay.
In summary, tell them you are out of the good stuff, and can't afford to continue as it is. If they are a group worthy of your efforts, they will change...
I'm a guild leader and a Master Doc and I also buff everyone for free. However, I do make sure that everyone knows that it costs me 5 - 6k everytime I buff. This way, I avoid the "buff me so I can try on this armor" requests. And, some newbies thinka Buff is simply magic and we don't have to pay to acquire buff packs.
If your guild leader reqests that you buff everyone for free, he should be responsible to help you accomodate this request in terms of resources.
I have a few habitual moochers who are about to get a little talk.
Seems like the people who never tip are the ones who don't give anything back. Most of the guildies I buff have given me resources to sell on my vendor, or weapons, or packs, or loots, or something. Not that I ask but it seems like most of them like to help out their guildmates, as do I.
I have plenty of money and can certainly afford a few buff packs, even though I don't craft my own. I think it's the "entitlement" mentality of a small minority that I find irritating.
I buff my close friends for free.
I guess it depends on the situation, but I have enough money, and I have tons of buff packs everywhere, so it doesn't hurt me much.
Yesterday I gave some doctor who got bank tipped scammed 2 sets of buffs for free, so they could get back on their feet.
I agree though, everytime you give something to somebody for free, they continue to expect it, which can quickly lead to a bad situation.
I buff for whatevermy guildmateswant to tip me. Some are real life friends too, but most of them actually want to pay me, so that I don't feel used or whatever. It's *really* easy IMO to get that impression if everyone expects buffs for free.
That being said... I make my own packs, I also sell lots of them, I have money, so it's not really an issue. If you're a doc who buy your own packs, andbuffs to make money, I would definitely ask for enough money to cover your expenses at least, so 3k or something.
I dont charge, but i'm also a retired weaponsmith ![]()
I'd say either make sure your guild is hunting resources you need for the primo buff packs, orcharge them. Don't be a buff **edit**. Every server is packed with guilds that would love to have a doc join, and wouldn't mind paying regular rates for buffs, let alone discounted 'guild' rates.
DIn, it sounds like your guildmates are probably the types to take advantage of you. I buff my guildmates for free. Sometimes they tip, sometimes not, but I never ask for themand if I do run short of material to make my own, most of them are quick to help me harvest more (especially the avian and herbivore meat).
My advice is to take some of the money you've been dropping on buying buffs and get some medium harvesters. Harvest your own resources. Wait for good spawns of material (800+ on both OQ and either PE/UT, whichever the resource has). Sure it will be a while before you can make your own buffs. But if you get help collecting the meat, and wait for the good spawns, you can easily make Buff packs that hit 2200+ and last for 3 hrs.
I read like half the thread, but I've got to get back to grinding the Amorsmith/Weaponsmith/Merchant, so I'm just going to throw in my reply:
I've not been in a guild for some time, but when I was, I buffed for free. However, I also got an insane amount of resources for free, also. That was the condition--if you all want an endless supply of buffs, then I need an endless supply of packs. Whenever a good resource appeared, I alerted the guild to that fact with a guild-wide e-mail.
"Avian Meat on Lok is outstanding at the moment--it drops from pharples, flits, and perleks. If you are grinding XP this week and have room for Novice Scout (even for a few days) then hunt their please and collect all the meat you can."
Whammo! I had 25000 units of meat. A decent Wild Wheat (Lok) spawned:
"Wild Wheat (Lok) is of crafting quality as of today. I'm attaching two 75% waypoints on the planet. All artisans that have a spare lot please drop a personal flora harvest at either waypoint and let it run for a week--this the most needed ingredient for making Enhance D's, so you are helping the guild tremendously."
Whammo! I get 90000 units of wheat. I just flat run out of Dolovite Iron:
"I'm critically low on Dolovite Iron. Anyone that enjoys my buffs, I'm going to run out without more--I need Iron (Dolovite) with high OQ (900+) but anything is better than nothing."
Whammo! I get 40000 units of iron.
But I would buff them all for free--if I had the ability to. The guild leader/officers would put out collections to keep me stocked with so many resources it was just a matter of turning the factory on. In fact after about a month, I had so many resources built up I had enough to make packs for a very long time. I started carrying a crate of each enhance pack, because I had so many resources. It was a very happy time.
I left SWG and donated all the stuff back to the guild when I left--I miss those days, actually.
