LuciusClay - There is a game that is exactly as you describe! Where everyone is min-maxxed to the extreme into cookie cutter templates. It's called Everquest.

A dabbler who is 0-2-3-0 in the doctor tree can't make goodmeds(so loses out on that source of income), can't buff as well as a master doc (and must buy the enhance D's from a master doc - good luck finding these for sale), can't res (need 0-4-3-0 for this at a minimum), can't heal poison or disease, and can't heal as fast as a master doc (soon to be fixed for self heal time as well). So what's the problem with people dabbling? They will have some abilities of the doctor tree but will be inferior in all of these abilities, as they should be if they go for a jack-of-all-trades build. The difference in SWG is that a jack-of-all-trades can be viable, whereas in a game like EQ you would be gimp.

I'm a doctor dabbler.

I think that if they increased the medic use skill required for say stim-b and res kits, that it would solve some of the problems. A novice medic can use a stim-b already, but it just makes having stim-a pretty much pointless. If they upped the med use of stim-b they would at least force the dabblers to pick-up some pharmacology, and it would make the healing ability at least linear with the amount of skill boxes obtained. I mean, it makes sense thata low to mid level medic can heal more than a novice and the med use should be made to reflect this as well.

As it is, I'm an 0/4/0/2 doctor. I find there's little reason for me to pick up any of the other skills.Sure there is poison and disease healing, but neither is amazingly useful. Essentially, all that mastering doctor it will get me is the ability to heal wounds faster and buff. I could really care less about how long people have to wait to be healed; even some particularly rude folks deserving it.And buffing, whileuseful, is not all important. There just isn't a lot for me to justify using another 30ish skill points.

Anyhow, I just think that bringing in line med useage and healing ability would be better for the overall profession.
