Because it's somewhat harder to get than weapon/combat xp.I can't heal people who don't need healing. When I do, on average only 10% of my xp goes to healing (I have to fight too, otherwise my group will die too). It's very rare for me to find myself in a L80 gurk group, and even when I am, those guys barely need healing.

I've waited quite some time before saying this, because I wanted to give the system a fair go. I've made new characters on bria, and I'm well on the way to mastering my combat professions, while I'm still 1030 medic...

I've also expierenced this to an extend, but I fix the problem by telling my group if they don't get attacked and take damage, I can't get xp. That usually slows them down enough so I can use a heal of some sort. But then again I play with the same people everyday, so I know what I can get away with.

I know a lot of people have blinders on when they play a game like this, so they only think about themselves....but come on you've been around a long as I have....I find it hard to believe you can't put a group of people togather so that it works for everyone.

Seeing most of the member of my last 3 guilds quit the game, and being in a different time zone to the majority of players, it is actually quite difficult for me to get in a group or put one together, especially when I'm not high level yet, most people don't want to know you.

I have found a guild on Bria of Aussies that have the same play time as me, but even they are not always on, or free to group all the time. The game is also not readily available in Australia, so I can't just seek out more Aussies, or tell more of my friends to go buy the game.

That aside, I see a real problem with what you're doing... you're forcing your group to slow down and take damage so that you may heal. That is a massive game design flaw. The required xp should be about half of what it is, only then would it be somewhat balanced without the need to coerce people to take damage purely so you can gain xp. It should be gained from just healing when necessary, and by doing that I'm finding the levelling as slow or slower than Jedi.

See, I had the opposite problem, namely that I could barely get a shot in sideways, while I had medic xp out the wazoo. Maybe my guildmates just like to tank, but they needed me on full-time heal duty. Fortunately it was during the respec period so I ended up trading a few of my medical boxes toward pistols, since I could re-fill the medical boxes quickly.

You do know that the amount of med xp is not dependent on the amount of damage you heal as long as you don't do damage yourself. If all you do is heal then you get full xp.

No matter how good thier def or armor they will always take on some damage. So just keep spaming the heals and you will get full xp.

I have mastered Doc about 4 times now, don't ask why, and I have found that getting med xp is very easy if your willing to group up. Not many groups have said anything negative about wanting a healer in the group.

Also, since the FS conversion is 10:1 rather than 30:1 like weapons med xp is very good for village grinding. The cap is 1.2mil now so it matches weapons.

Yes that I do know, but when your group consists of smugglers & BH's with lots of roots and snares, very little damage gets taken...I guess it's just harder for me being both in a different time zone and more of a casual player now. Kind of brings me to my other realisation of this game though, solo play has suffered a massive nerf. I love grouping up don't get me wrong, but I like solo play too. I understand that high level mobs should require groups to take them on, but basic levelling solo should be much faster than it is.

Also, I thought you actually had to be in combat with the mob, which means attacking it, and at least doing a little damage... Is this not correct?

No matter how good thier def or armor they will always take on some damage. So just keep spaming the heals and you will get full xp.

True, be nice if I could find a group on a regular basis though. casual-player-itis I guess...

Everyone tries to invite you when you're a master, but not when you're a low level medic...

Pity it's only for the senses, but true and better than30:1.

Where have I heard this before....................

Oh yeah:

the Combat balance (nov 03) revamp (aug 04) Upgrade( sometime after august 04)is comming Soon.

Sorry Marrow, but time after time the devs have promised to fix professions they broke (CH, Carbineer, SL, Smuggler......................) and it has taken years now.

The CU has simply proven to be SWG open beta, I figure it will take till september to have the game back to the level it was at in June of 03.

Ok maybe shouldn't blame the devs, it's whoever is above the devs giveing them orders, the point remains the same .
