Done both as a master doc....
TKA:
Pros:
Power Boost means with buffs you have a HUGE HAM!
Force of will is a lifesaver - litterally.
Meditate - dont need to use wound packs on yourself
Never have to spend a ton of cash on weapons
Cons:
Only one damage type that most highend mobs are resistant to
To my knowlege COB is busted for TKA
PVP is not good if they have High Kinetic Resist armor
Swordsman
Pros:
Multiple damage types
MASSIVE area of effect damage
Can do tons of damage to the mind pool
Cons:
About Average in PVP
NEVER try using the specials without buffs

one other thing is that most comp armor comes with 80% nonbase kinetic resists, so the kinetic can't be sliced, where as the blast (on mine) was in the base at 70%. I got that sliced to 88%, so the diferent damage types won't help you in PvP.
man you shouldn't be buying kinetic armor if you're going for effect slices, go for adv comp or stun layered

im a master swordsman/master doctor. 1 vs 1 i can usually take a tkm easily with my 605 max damage power hammer. the only advantage i see to being a tkm is meditation. a deathblow macro usually beats force of will.

it does'nt matter if its 88% base since the ph is medium ap and composite is light armor. the extra 18% will barely make a difference.

TKA will beat up on non speed capped swordsmen. A speed capped swordsman will wreck a tk.
