If you like hunting your own meat, I would recommend meleeover ranged. Every critter you fight in this game will end up at your feet after a shot or two anyway. Like the previous poster, i'd go with a lower harvest ability for more combat power. Personally, when hunting i use scout 1-0-0-0, and when i need other resources I drop that and use novice artisan. (theres no survey range difference between novice art and art 0-0-0-1). I was a master carbineer for a while, and its very hard to stay at the ideal range for carbines, and most have sever penalties for being too close/far. Also, you get a nice -50 range mod for moving while shooting. You're better off getting the extra power and defense from a melee prof for hunting.

Also with melee, buffs, and good kinetic armor, you can have all sorts of killing fun by standing next to a lair, using your best spin attack. You keep hitting the lair to aggravate them and pop new ones and you keep killing with the spin. You can just watch the bodies piles up while your ubese soaks up must of the damage. This is how I hunt. Any melee profession will do, but I agree that TKA is probably the easiest to play. At master, you always attack at thee speed cap and TKAs have the highest toughness of any melee prof. Your toughness takes off most of the damage even before armor is accounted for. Additionally, if you do the spin method, you will pile up wounds. Meditation takes these away easily.

To some extent, a ranged attacker can do the same from distance with a ranged area attack, but things can get really interesting for the ranged attacker if 4 or 5 of the attackers make it to you.

The one question I have is about the hash and droids. The hash affects my harvesting; I don't believe it affects what my droid harvests. Am I incorrect? I never bothered to eat the stuff when I had the droid out. He harvests so much more than I do, I only eat hash when I don't want to wait for him to return.

yes the hash and the droid stack. However, it is deminishing returns.

The droid harvest amount is a function of your harvest ability and its harvest ability. I dont recall if is an average or not but it is something close. So lets say you have +20 and your droid is 100 then you get something like +60.

Because the droid is an average of your ability and its the lower your skills the more improvement you get when using the droid. On the other hand if you have very high harvest skills or a very poor droid (+50 or example) then you will not see much of an improvement.

If your using +30 hash then you have +20 + (+30) = +50.

Then add in the droidand +30 hash and now your getting +75.

These numbers are not exact but just being used to make a point. Although they stack the addition of the +30 hash only gets you +15 (+60 vs +75) when using the droid in this example and not the +30.

Yes, but you will still get more with it than without.

So, with a harvest droid, would you need any scout at all?

Thanks again everyone.

So I'm happily progressing up the pistoleer tree (having dropped Ranged Combat) when I decide to try some composite armor - what the heck, I've got to do SOMETHING with all these credits - but I can't put the stuff on: I seem to lack "Focus". So now I have a new challenge: where can I get some of this "Focus" stuff? Is this the part where I migrate my stats? I've heard of Docs migrating everything to Mind and relying on buffs for the Health/Action stuff. . .

Will a "Mind" migration take care of Focus or do I need to increase that separately? How much Focus is enough - it seems that if I only increase Focus enough to wear the armor then I'll have none left over for. . .for. . .what the heck do I use focus for anyway?

Sorry to be such a doof but I've been pretty much "self-contained" for so long I'm probably behind the curve on a lot of this stuff.

Yes, and no.

Yes, you may want to max out all your mental stats (mind, focus, and wp). You will need to work with an ID now to have this done.

No, this will not be enough to put a full suit of comp on in most cases. To do that you may want to go to your local food vendor and buy some of these fine food/drinks:

Vasarian Brandy (drink)+300-450 to mind, focus and willpower for 30-60min 50ish % filling.(this is a must have these days)

Ahrisa +200ish to Focus for 45ish minutes. 33ish % filling. (I love this stuff)

Vegnerian Canape +600ish to focus and willpowerfor 10ish minutes 33ish %filling. (great for putting your armor on or PvP but that is about it with the short duration)

Breath of heaven also impacts focus but I dont recall the stats.

These stats are for bio eng forms and quality and price will vary.

And of courese you and always getent. buffs as well.

There are others but these are the

marrow pretty much covered the food/drink part. It also depends a little on your species. I maxed my mind stats as a mon cal, so i have 1300-800-800 before i even touch food. You can also see a musician who can buff focus and willpower, anda dancer who can buff mind. From a master muscian/dancer the buffs will only double whatever your existing mind stats are, so they are a little different from doctor buffs.

So what happens when the buffs wear off and I'm still wearing the armor? Am I suddenly naked? Can't move?

Nope, you just have neg encomb.

A lot of people put it on and never take it off.

The only down side is the if you get damage then you regin very slowly.
