Thread: Question for all Master Doc's...
Cannon, in regards to your post, i guess i would have to classify myself as the type outlined in your third paragraph. With the exception being, i am not complaining, but merely throwing out the fact that i dislike the act crafting. I claim to be a master doc, if i am indeed one, then i had to do my share of unfavorable crafting. I really just started this thread to get an over all idea of what Doctor's are doingfrom all parts of the galaxies.Just to clear the air so we dont have any minor implications in theposts......
I make my buff packs for myself and a friend. Use them on myself and guild/citymates. Rarely sell the packs or the buffs, although on occasion I will to make some quick cash or pass the time while waiting for the shuttle or something.

I grew tired of having to track down a seller that was always in stock, so I saved my credits and bought a good quantity of material. I did factory runs of all the subs and just make a set of buffs when I run out or am in the mood to pull in some credits.
If you find a reliable, reasonably priced source for buffs, I'd go that route. It's a drag getting all those different high-quality materials.
I have only been a doctor for about 2 weeks now but prior to mastering I spent about 3 weeks harvesting resources for advanced components and the buff packs them selves. I spent around 1.5 million credits on heavy harvesters, maintenance, and power to get started. I now have nough resources other than avian meat to make several crates of buffs. By buff packs are around 818 power with 20 charges per pack. My resources arent the best but they are the best i could get in that 3 week period. My just finished making 6 crates of 50 packs, I crate of each stat. I charge 10k for a full set of buffs and give a full refund if any hit below 1000. I havent had any hit below yet so I have made maximum profit based on my pricing. 50 per crate times 20 per buff pack = 1000 buffs times 10k = 10 million credits. I have almost made all my money back in the last 2 days and no I didn't spend the whole day buffing, more like an hour or 2. Some people think that 10k is too much for a buff then i point then to the guy selling 42 units of avian meat for 3000 credits and they either have a change of heart and happily pay the 10k or they go to another doctor which is fine with me. I spend alot of time harvesting and serveying to get my resources and I think that 10k is a fair price with my money back guarantee. Especially considering any elite class can go solo 10k missions on dantooine for 3 hours after getting a buff from me. This is also the reason I don't sell buff packs. 1 buff pack is worth 40k to me based on my pricing and not many people are willing to pay that much for them. So yes making your own is very cost efficient if you have the money to start harvesting your own resources.

The thing about the cost of the avian meat is doctors did it to themselves on my server.
It took one doctor to say paying 100cpu for a currently spawning avian meat to set the price for other doctors if they wanted to compete. I spent most ofa week hunting avian meat to sell and made 2 million off of that work selling to other doctors and kept some for myself. The funny thing is the next week even better avian meat spawned and that I harvested for myself.

Agreed. But let's ask ourselves if it really might be worth 100 cpu...
An enhance D uses 28 avian meat. There are some inefficiencies when creating schematics, so call it 30. For this, you will get 25 charges. So in reality, you are adding around 120 credits to the cost of each charge and 3000 credits to the cost of the pack.
The avian meat itself is responsible for half of the duration (both resourceshave OQ and DR) and two-thirds of the power (both resources have OQ, only avian meat had PE). As a result- and these are wild guesses -the good avian meat has the potential to contribute 30 minutes to the duration and 100 in power over using average avian meat. You probably get close to an hour and 200 power over using garbage avian meat.
Using these to buff others, if the customer knows they will get 100-300 more on each buff and an extra half hour, they will gladly pay 10K for a set rather than 6K. So you can receive 500 credits more at a cost of 120 credits more per charge. That's worth it. The problem here is developing a reputation for having better, longer-lasting buffs, so the customer isn't fazed by a higher price.
Using these for personal buffs, I am willing to burn an extra 720 credits/set to get the extra duration as well. In an ideal situation, it means I have to rebuff less often. Even the extra 100-300 HAM might mean less need to /revive people, which also means less need to rebuff people. I probably come out ahead financially here as well since I will use fewer charges overall.
Using these in buffs for resell, I think I can recoup the extra 3000 in costs per pack if the power is 100 higher and the duration is 30 minutes longer. Sure, the less good buffs will sell, but these will sell better. This case is less obviously a net win for me than the previous cases. I would have to experiment with pricing on my vendor to see how this would play out.
