As bad as the concepts in the CU are, what is worse is that buggy, untested code is going out live to meet a deadline set by marketing asshats.
I think they want to kill this game. I really do.
And I think what so many people are forgetting is that the Devs are working nearly 24h a day, Lucas Arts has the final say as to when and what happens to this game. And so many people are focused and b!tching because they are stuck in some fantasy world where they think this game has to be made specifically for them and no one else.
If you think the CU is that bad they why don't you quit, because obviously you fail to realize that dispite the bugs, dispite the general group based focus of the CU, the game isn't about your profession and how you play. The devs aren't making a game for YOU....they are making it for everyone. And dispite what you read on the forums, a lot of people like the CU. Don't base an opinion on what you read.
When I was at the Player Breakfast in Indy there was roughly 200 players attending. When GreenMarine asked us how many people had played the CU for and hour probably 80% of the hands went up. When he asked how many had played for a day 45% of the hands went up. When he asked how many had played for a week or more I could count the number of hands that went up with my fingers and 2 toes.
That tells me one thing, if the player base is anything like the 200 some odd people in that room, people are getting on the hate band wagon without even basing and opinion for themselves. They are basing an opinion of 1 hour of gameplay, yet the CU is to different to compare, it's totally different then what we have been playing for nearly 2 years....and to base an opinion on one hour of "Noobie" gameplay is just stupid.
I think they want to make the game better, and I think they are doing just that; it may take some time, but we have a truely dedicated Dev Team working non-stop and sleeping on the floor at work just to make us a better game.

Yeah, didn't you know though? That was actuallythe only 3 positive comments they got regarding the CU.
They had it to make it memorable.

Hey, I'm more of the "pure healer" docs and I think we got screwed. I was looking forward to not needing meds or needing to make them in order to heal, but I sure didn't wantthe whole profession switched into a "combat only" deal. And I do have pistols on my template, so it isn't "You are being forced into combat."
It's just, to me at least, this change makes no sense at all. None. Natta. Zero.
And no, before you make any assumptions, I'm not someone who has been playing since Day 1 or very long at all that just doesn't want change. I've only been playing for about a month now. Some changes wouldn't even phase me. But these aren't just tweaks to the profession, but rather changing the entire profession to something else.
See, when I started playing SWG, I liked the idea that I could havea little combat skill so I could go out and adventure or hunt with friends. But what I really enjoyed since I started playing was the doctor profession. Being able to sit in a medical center/hospital and talk to patients as they wandered in looking for help. I was looking forward to getting master doctor so that I could place a hospital in my guild's town. You see, I'm a roleplayer. I prefer socializing to just pvp or fighting. Not that I'm against that at all, just I like being able to do both and choose between them when I want to.
Now. Now I don't have any choice. The doctor profession is a pure combat profession. Sure, I could still sit in a hospital and heal people. Oh yeah, maybe some people will tip me. But I don't get any experience for it. Without experience, I can't advance. I'm only a 2-2-1-2 doctor. I don't have any choice but to go out and get into a group and hunt.
I didn't choose this profession because it would make me a better pvper. Not because I could make a ton of money from making meds or buffing, either. I started this because I enjoy helping people, and giving me a reason to interact with them in doing so. This is why I decided on doctor instead of combat medic.
You might not have a problem with that. Maybe it fits your playstyle. But it doesn't mine, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
Not to try to put a positive spin on this, but you are lucky that you already have pistoleer skills. You could use your respec to move your pistoleer skills to doc and then regain your pistoleer skills.
It kinda stinks, but it I think it would be possible.

you know what I hate the most about comments like this? Just ONCE I would like these idiots to shut their mouth and think before they talk.. if YOU did not like the game prior to CU, why didn't YOU quit? why the f.uck do we have to play YOUR game because YOU refused to quit? f.uck you! we want our game back and we want YOU to quit if you don't like it

I can see you've emerged from your self induced retirement dude. Nice to see you're making another attempt to win friends and influence people!

Well the CU went live on Eclipse this morning and I logged in long enough to take a look around. I, for one, do like the color icons, but don't like losing my comp armor due to being a Rifleman, but I can live with that.
To me the worst impact is to my crafting doc template. Everyone has been saying that they intend to remove the scout pre-req from BE, but as of this morning it's still there. That means in order to pick up my crafting skill set, I need to drop either my Master Rifleman or my Master Doc, and that just plain sucks.
I've dreaded the CU since it was first announced for this one reason. I had absolutely zero desire to go into the TC and help them improve upon their inventive genius either. Why hurry the butchering of my favorite profession?
I realize that to you "pure healer" docs the CU is great. However to we crafting docs it completely sucks, and I feel the need to voice that opinion, despite never having set one foot within the TC.
(Not to draw any comparisons at all, but in searching for an analogy this is the best I could come up with):
Germany in 1942 looked REALLY good to a bunch of blond haired, blue eyed young Germans. They thought it was the greatest thing around.
To a lot of Jews however, it completely sucked...
The CU is all a matter of perspective in a lot of ways.
Now I have never talked of quitting, and I'm going to keep playing, attempting to make the best out of the mess the devs have worked 24 hour days to create.
I think they want to make the game better, and I think they are doing just that; it may take some time, but we have a truely dedicated Dev Team working non-stop and sleeping on the floor at work just to make us a better game.
Dutifully noted.
I, for one, agree with you that they are trying to make the game better. However for at least one crafting doc, they've failed miserably.
I said it before and I'll say it again, the crafting docs are the casualties of war, a necessary sacrifice in order to improve the game play of others...

It is also not our responsibility to test a software product for a company we are paying customers of. I appreciate being a part of the process, but first and foremost, they should have a team of paid employees whose job it is to put out bug-free, well-coded, fully tested software if they expect me to shell out hundreds of dollars for it. Bugs are expected, but when I buy Windows, I don't expect to buy the beta version and be responsible to spend all my time testing it for them.
My time should be spent PLAYING the finished product.
HEY! That's uncalled for! These devs are working 24h days to bring you a GREAT CU, and you need to show them some more appreciation, especially if you've never volunteered to test it for them previous to them rolling it out!
