agreed.. we really need some way to survey so we don't have to waste points on novice artisan.

how bout this:

convert /medicalforage into a /medicalsurvey and /medicalsample, usable only on the required ingredients for the schematics you have?

Like, we could only survey and sample Class 4 Liquid Petro Fuel, not the other kinds.. Also, the /medicalsample should only give 1 unit of a resource, and if there is already a unit of that resource in the inventory, return 0.

I consider myself a self-sufficient Doctor.

My skills are:

Master Doctor

Novice Scout (with Exploration I)

Novice Artisan with Survey 4 and Engineering I

Marksman with Pistol 4 and Ranged Support 4

Novice Pistoleer with Pistol Grips 3

I have 1 free skill point left.

I can do everything Medic and Doc wise. I can make camps in the field and harvest from animals. I have highest survey and can make droid batteries. I can utilize the Support line for defensive purposes in combat. I have up to Body Shot 3 offensively.

I was striving for a "Field Doctor" and I think I accomplished that. The only weak area I have is in combat, but I can get by with healing myself.

I think medical forage should randomly select an Organic resource and sample several units (depending upon the Medical Foraging mod of the person.) Either that or find items similar to the /forage command but these heal small wounds/states instead.

Of course you are, because you have scout skills and artisan skills. The real issue here (as I see it, anyway) is that an armorsmith can be self-sufficient by having master armorsmith and nothing else. A doctor, in order to be self-sufficient must be a master doctor AND a novice artisan. (Note that I left out creature organics for both professions.)

That just doesn't seem fair.

I prefer the limited survey range/limited charges possibility myself. Changing the economy just isn’t gonna work, IMO. I’m sorry. When I see people selling crap resources for 5:1 on the bazaar it just isn’t gonna work, I want to give them a /tell and say WTH are you thinking selling this at 5:1. Then something “good” pops up and everyone treats is like gold selling it for 6-10:1. Those selling resources think we’re all weaponsmiths with millions in the bank.

There’s no way that a minor profession is going to do any better. Not to mention that why would then give up harvesters for us, a small minority of the resources buyers when they can have 8-10 harvesters on the latest great weaponsmith resources and make twice as much.

Also they’ve already attempted to give us this ability, but it’s poorly implemented/bugged. They need to change/fix medical forage to something more like survey.
