I'm not one to flame, but dude, you're seriously misinformed. At least, on Radiant this wasn't the case. A full series of buffs cost 700k. That was for 136 charges total. It took roughly 10 days to use those up (10 playing days, so figure about 2 weeks real time). Usually one buff gets used on yourself per day if you do anything other than buff, so that's 10. Down to 126. There's the periodic mis-fire (Bivoli runs out. Forgot to suit up, etc.) so that's another, say 5 or 6. So you're down to 120. Then there's the guildmates that don't pay you because they "forget," or they figure you do this for free. Then, if you group up, most of the time people expect you to buff them for little or no charge. Let's not even take those into account, though. We'll stick with 120.

If you're lucky, you can get, on average, 10k for each of these. It probably works out to slightly less than that, but we'll take your optimistic (or perhaps it should be considered pessimistic..) point of view, and stick with 10k. 10k times 120 buffs = 1.2mil

1.2 mil minus your buff expense of 700k = 500k. BUT...you had to buy Bivoli, too! That's as much as 200k, but we'll take a modest approach, and say that we only spent 125k on it.

500k - 125k = 375k

375k over two weeks... 187.5k a week. If you are buffed, that's roughly equates to 2 hours a week of running missions!!!

So, I spend 4 hours a week sitting in a star port buffing morons*....like you....so they can have more fun in a game, and make twice the hourly wage in game that I can.

You owe me millions. I want them. Now.

* Not everyone that gets buffed is a moron. Only those Delta-Minuses that can't see beyond their own biases, and speak on matters which they clearly have no information whatsoever, are worthy of the "moron" label. My guess is you've heard this before, though.

I was one of the docs that did hang out at the star ports. I did not do it for the money i simply liked to help. istarted out trying to be a combat medic but got too frustrated when people would not sit still so i could help them. It was a lot more fun for me to sit at the port andf have people come to me, there were many nice conversations and I never got yelled at because i did not heal someone on time. I belive the CU will take that away, i am not quitting just yet but if I do not get enjoyment out of myrole in the new system I most likely will quit, for a while at least.

This change will just improve the role I was already "playing" (not AFK botting outside of a spaceport).

If that's the case, then I don't see the relevance of your initial comment. It's great that you're getting what you want, but why incite those that aren't? I highly doubt all these complaints are coming from "botters". Of all the docs I've known (about 8 that were serious about it) none port-botted, and only one of them had a buff shack. She closed it down due to an exploit that someonewhom didn't like buff shacks used against her.

Regardless, why would you want to proliferate the fiction that docs make "millions?" Because you took a Mother Theresa approach and didn't care to charge? Everyone should play as such? Seems to me those actions are less healthy for the game--and its Player-Based Economy--than 10k for a buff ever was!

I know of many people who decided to create doctor alts for the money. Maybe the "millions" thing is not accurate, but the fact is that a lot of people choosed to be doctors for the money. And like everything in life, there are those of us who choosed it because we like it. So if you are not of those why do you get all defensive?

I really shouldn't especify to who I am directing my comments. If they didn't fit you why react at all? And no, I'm not trying to force anyone to play the way I do. But if the low subscription base of SWG is not a sign that there was something seriously wrong with the combat of the game then... nothing I say will convince you otherwise.

Is the CU a little bit too late? Yes maybe, the current players are the ones that enjoyed the broken system, it make sense that most will oppose it, but in the end it will be the best for the game. Does it have it flaws? Well of course, such a change was not in the mind of the original concept of the game.

But then again, if my post doesn't describe you, then why try to defend yourself?...

I respect all those docs out buffing in busy SPs and wherever they decide to do so...I am not a public buffing doc or merchant enhanced crafter...I made my own buffs/meds; they were for me and friends...but both merchant enhanced crafters and public buff docs served community...they took on important roles

/kowtow public buff docs and crafting docs

some wealth were granted to those worked hard...appropriate reward(s) for the work they had to put in...good for you guys/gals

/deepbow public buff docs
I don't know how you guys/gals do it hehehehe...many appreciated your service...I am sure of that...if you were leaving the profession after CU hits Live, best luck to you

What do you mean? Why is making millions wrong? I mean, for me trying to be as rich as possible is the end game. Im not playing the game to make everyone happy nor am I constantly thinking "is this healthy for the game". And why should I really?

Why is it more noble to play fighter and slay krayts then to trying to be rich with tools that are given to us? Im just worried that my buffs that I could have either sold or buffed others with and earned something on the lines of 3 million are now, as we speak, being converted to something 1/10 of their previous value.

Fair enough.

I don't feel I'm defending myself, exactly. Just the idea that docs are all "rich." I started my doc alt because I couldn't consistantly find a buff when I needed one. I'm defending all the docs that have been antagonized by griefers in game who mistakenly think all docs arerich (which, to me, is what your post suggests). If you look through this forum, you'll see the dark side of human behavior described more than once....and we're talking about a past-time! It's ridiculous. Proliferation of the myth is hurtful to those that enjoy playing the part.

When I last logged my doc out, he had less than 200k total. He does have a few buff packs still, so his net-worth (pre-CU) is probably around 750k.

Bottom line on the CU, though--if I wanted to play a cleric, I would have chosen a different game. Oh, wait--I did switch to WoW, didn't I? I suppose for me the disappontment is in how radical of a change this is. And, thinking of a Doctor attempting to stand toe-to-toe with a foe in battle....that's synonymous with Capt. James T. Kirk--responsible for a starship and 1200 souls--beaming down to have a fist-fight with an alien..it doesn't make any sense (and I love Star Trek...)

Combat Medics should be combatants that heal, revive, etc. Doctors should be non-combatants that deal with more serious injuries (wounds?). The current Combat Medic should be called a Chemical and Biological Weapons Specialist(but let's not go there). I'm wondering if the next upgrade will have Entertainers dancing on the front lines of battle...perhapswith some sort of group mesmerize ability.

Good luck to all.

"some sort of group mesmerize ability " Like Uhura in Star Trek 5. lol

Seriously though, I liked being a Doc BECAUSE I did not have to take part in combat but could still feel like I helped.

I have yet to be attacked as a Doctor in the CU without actually pressing the attack button, so I don't know where you get the idea of having to stand toe to toe with a mob
