Thread: Doctors that sell medicines: your thoughts on the current and future vendor nerfs?
"There are strong rumors of an impending vendor nerf, where if you have a vendor but no skill to have it, they will be deleted"
That's not a nerf, that's a bug fix.
I dropped CH, I can't still use my level 50 pets. Why should you keep the abilities of a class you dropped?
That makes no sense.

For doctors without merchant abilities I suggest you find yourself a good merchant partner / friend. It is kind of a pain but I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to arrange.
As for being deleted when you drop the skills - I find it more likely that they will stop working. They are very careful in not actually deleting a vendor.
That said, I think there's many ways that they can improve their database issues. For eaxmple, make all crates be able to come in quantities of 100. Make us able to combine identical crates. Make us able to combine identical items (i.e take two stim B from a crate with 35 uses and drag them together to get a stack with 70). Many other ways of getting less objects. The limits on crates somewhat made sense when you couldn't split crates. Now, they are pointless and only help to bloat the database and make buying /handling things harder.
Heck, at least make sub-components come in crates of 200 or why not 1000? Is there really a reason to have small crates at all? I don't think so. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have just 4 crates to hold ALL your medical components from a full factory run? Can you imagine how much space this would save? :-)
- Stock a vendor with cure packs, stimpacks, state packs, medpacks, rez packs, enhance packs
- Maintain around 10 items of each, with B, C, D, E variants
- Maintain crated versions of all of the above
- Impose a purchase limit to stop people from cleaning out the vendors (thus making the shop unreliable - nothing worse than an empty vendor)
- Log in every second day to check the vendor (nothing worse than an empty vendor)
- Stay with the Merchant class for more than 3 months (I don't know any exclusive merchants... they are all attached to an elite crafting profession for their own resale only or quit from boredom once they've hit the 5 mill mark)
- Is friendly, reliable, and has a basic idea of how a supply business model works
Anyway, I've done my bit.
I have a dedicated doctor's medical shop on Scylla.. fully stocked with all types, amounts and variants of all doctors stuff.
If the nerf/fix goes through that's one niche shop that will cease to exist, to the detriment of doctors on my server ![]()
I'd agree the item limit nerf is a bad thing though, it seems to me it's going to affect the casual players especially. It won't affect me much, I'll just restock every day instead of every other day but then I play a lot. I don't think the item limit would stop people using vendors for storage though, but forcing players to keep the vendor skillboxes would. Anyway it's clear the item limit is really only going in because of the database issues, which is a weak excuse in my opinion.

Why not use a Merchant PC? Well if anyone knows of a Merchant PC that will

If you get a chance, roll up an alt on Corbantis near Keren, Naboo and drop by my shop.
Not to brag, but that's what's possible for me to pull off while workingand studyingfull-time, thanks to the efforts involved in finding a Merchant PC partner.
If the issue is storage, just let components sit in your factory's output hopper until you need it, and store extra resources in the input hopper. Voila, 200 extra storage per factory, or 400 storage if you use 2 lots' worth of factories - instead of the 150 granted by a storage house.
If the issue is not having enough points to be an elite combat profession and a full-time crafter/businessman, then that's just our one-man-show side talking again (refer to my previous post in the thread). If you really must do it yourself, you can also join the $30/month club. ![]()

How do you do that? Ban people that buy too much of your product?

Yeah house banning has become popular. People will clean out a vendor and hoard the items.
Thre will actually be more PC merchants when this goes through.. it will be a worthwhile thing to persue again.
I sell meds live to friends, so I don't have a merchant. I generally don't make them of the quality needed to attract a merchant's attention.
The DB is still a huge issue.
The cap is a DB issue. The merchant only restriction is for the Merchants.
Though these issues combined, people who had sold back merchant storing huge amounts of stuff on vendors (also affecting the DB) was huge (and a popular hobby).
We'll see how it goes.

Well if you assume that they wont delete any vendors for those that dropped their skills...and that's not so far fetched. When have the dev's intentionally deleted anything? Closest thing I can point to is the original holo's that they turned to holo shards. I will admit that they've altered a lot though. They've already admitted that the checks they make only take place when something is put down or picked up. Take the hospital for example: You must be MD to place it, you must be MD to have it transferred to you, but otherwise, drop your med skills, there will never be another check to your skill set. Vendors appear to be the same way according to the Merchant Forum.
If you go up the Management Tree in Merchant. Go grab 4-5 vendors in Mgmt II or III. Place them in a shop, and you'll have space for 600-750 after the vendor nerf. If you posted 6 types of supplies to each vendor, that would give you room for 25 of each item even if you dropped all the way down and gave up Novice Artisan. Even if the devs nerf the vendors, they'll be nerfed down to 125 items each. Sure there will be maintenance to pay on all 4-5, but its not that high (unless that's how they weed us out).
Combine the first two if your traffic isnt as high as in some other malls.
