Thread: Fun proposal Viral infections

I thought that maybe it would encourage people to try and help with a problem that could theoretically affect any and everyone. Taking part in quests based on it, and just giving some content.

By griefing, are you saying that someone with the disease will just run up to others and try to infect them? Sure they will, but there are a lot of jerks out there, and we can't let them ruin all the fun. When the disease is cured, it will be easy for everyone to get the cure, and you couldn't be reinfected with the same strain again. Because of people like that we have characters that have no solidity, to keep the jerks from blocking doors and such. Drives me crazy.

Anti-virals, I have not heard of. Perhaps because I stopped watching ER years ago. I was under the impression that we couldn't really cure viral infections, and had to fight the symptoms until the ran themselves out.

I'm sorry, but seriously, I wouldn't mind if the Empire decided to send out stormtroopers to capture and detain every infected person on a planet (likeEndor or somewhere without houses)that they have cordoned off. How's that for down time? Trap people on one planet until the cure is found. Sure, give them quests to let them help find the cure on the planet, and maybe even let SMUGGLERS sneak them off the planet.

Let 'em look for all the stupid out of time jedi that are running around everywhere too.

Why is it that with MMORPGs, people expect to always be able to do exactally what they want, and never be forced into anything? With most console and computer games for that matter, you hardly ever get to choose what happens to you.

Sorry, ranting a bit.

Here's an idea, make the virus just be a slow wound maker, until a medical person cures them, then they start over. The amount of wounds will be pre-determined by the set strength of the virus, that way, it can only hurt people a little, at least until theDEVssee wether or not it will work, and then they could make a stronger disease.

There's a big difference between traditional console/computer games and MMORPGs. Those games aren't persistant and often have a fixed plot from which can only be affected by the player in pre-planned ways. SWG is not like that. Getting detained on one planet could have very adverse effects on many players. Some of these effects would be irreversable (missing a resource spawn, for one). I guarantee you, the crafter who loses a factory or harvestor, or any player who loses a house or guildhall or any other structure because he/she caught a virus from a griefer, was detained by stormtroopers and therefore could not get to the structure to save it would be less than happy about it. Unlike traditional console games, players in SWG can't just start the whole game over from the beginning, or from the last save. Lost time really is lost.

This sounds great! That is exactly the kind of thing that this game needs.

Stormtroopers find that you're infected with a virus that is spreading quickly. (Maybe they hold you on a space station instead of a whole planet) They come up to you on the street and ask you to surrender for the good of the Empire. If you don't, there's a fight. If you do, you are put onto the detention ship. If you die, your clone wouldn't have the virus. The Empire is supposed to oppress people. Besides, this would be perfect for smugglers, whom will smuggle you off the station (or planet) for a fee. The Empire doesn't care if you loose a house or a harvestor. They really don't care if you miss a resource spawn.

The game should be more realistic, and not more "the Empire will never hurt you as you go about your life however you want to."

Other things to make it less abrasive.

1. This makes no sense logically, but it may stop griefers and fast spreading infections. You can only give the disease to one other character, and then you become harmless.

2. Since the Imperials putting you on the space station are giving you something like quest material, and being forced there many times might suck. They could give you the second option, "If you seek immediate attention from a physician and keep yourself away from other sentients, we will let you go this time." The next scan won't remember that you've been scanned before.

3. Maybe only those whom allow their disease to go too far with no treatments are sent to isolation. This could make it so that only people almost trying to be sent there would be.

Now, I'm not looking for the idea that this will never work. I"m looking for ways to add content and keep most people happy. Perhaps forcing their hand is not the way, but I kinda think it is. If you pick Rebel, you get grief from stormtroopers, but if you pick neutral, they will never touch you? Does that make sense?
