Thread: Why is there a doctor profession?

I am a Master Doctor. This doesn’t mean much since you can grind it in just a day or two if someone tumbles for you and you have got access to the right grinding resources. However, I´m not a good grinder and getting there took me at least a few weeks.

Now I have come to realize that being a doctor isn´t much fun. The only thing I am good for is buffing people (or myself), practically being a “BuffTerminal”. My idea of being a doctor was to be useful on hunts and in battles to heal, cure and revive people - to be a vital part of a group. The thing is that almost everyone is buffed up to their ears these days and has got a high quality composite armor. People are hardly ever damaged and never die. How can I be useful as a doctor besides buffing?

Are doctors just supposed to buff people? Why not just put up “Buff Terminals” outside the Medical Centers and remove the doctor profession?

What do you people do to have fun *playing* doctors?

Ienjoy the crafting aspect of doc. I have a lot of fun locatingbetter resources and improving my product. I don't do it for the money, that's for sure (it is too easy to take my other acct and farm AV-21 powerplants). I do sell buff packs, but not for a huge profit. I got a lot of avian meat so why not? I never buff the public, and only buff friends and guildies.... with the exception of the occasional incapped newbie I might run into. It feels really good tohit someone with 1000+ power janta-enhanced buffs and see their reaction (especially in a med center city, some of my packs hit for 3100).

You don't get out much do you? Go with your guild (if you don't have a guild get in one) to the corvette or DWB. Your services WILL be needed. Especially somewhere like DWB. Or start PvPing. With the new poison/disease buffs/heals docs will be much more important in PvP battles.

Also, like the last guy said, being doc allows me to enjoy the crafting aspect while still maintaining a viable combat template.

Basically, if you aren't enjoying doc, it's not the profession, it's you. Doc lets you have enough extra skill points to master a combat prof, so you will be good at PvE, good (and necessary now) at PvP, and you can do the crafting thing.

A good doc is invaluable in pvp. People do get the snot kicked out of them and die, its just most of them don't do it doing rancor missions no more.

I used to kill time just running around cities healing random strangers of they're ailments.... Maybe not the funnest profession in the world but you can stay busy just gotta know where to look.

I have found the Doctor profession quite rewarding. I do buff players openly at a decent price. I also go out with my guild on hunts and provide backup in fights. I make sure to keep an eye out for those getting damaged badly and heal them.

Case in point: last week we went Kimo hunting and i was very helpful rez'ing/healing wounds from my group.

As someone mentioned already...you only enjoy the profession IF you are having fun. If you don't like being a doctor, then drop it and pick up something else. Simple as that.

Varies on the server, but on Sunrunner doctor's will not revive you or cure stats unless you're a friend/guild mate or pay them a lot of money. Not all doctors are like this, but most are. On Kettemoor a doctor will revive anyone (most will) if you just ask them nicely and they'll do it for free, heal stats for free, hell I see them giving free buffs to newbies. So I guess what I'm saying is that it's up to you if you want to be a "buff terminal" or if you want to have fun and be a support role while hunting with groups.

Try some PVP......you can't do it without a few docs around.

If you don't want to PVP, but want to function as a healer in really tough dungeons, try CM instead.

This is exactly why I am a TKM and master doc. I can buff my friends to go hunting for a few weeks, be the tank when it's time to dance, go to the starport the next day and make a zillion credits and buy more zillion dollar armor for my next hunt.

being a Doc takes a special personality you have to get your satisfaction in a big battle by how many of your team

mates you put back on the front line.

how you brave withering blaster fire to drag a frend from harms way.

sneeking past 5-6 night sisters with no armor to rez the half of your group that did not make it out.

and you simply have not lived tell you have buffed a Melee fighter while heis fighting a fully grown krayt dragon and listened to him screem in glee and plase the ground you walk on.heh or better yet tip you a mill

one idea is to take some of the lower comonets you have filling up your house and make some lesser buff packs

go to a nube area and freebuff the nubes

they will rember and at minimum be hooked on buffs mwhahahah

I would love to see groups have the ability to defend there healers or pull mobs off there docs maybe give docs shields that will protect them longer that you cant fight through.

one thing that may not be to hard is a type of mask so that docs can move around most mobs with out incuring argo all the time.

docs face all the same dangers as the full PvP PvE templates but usually with less armor(it hampers healing badly) and less defence.

we don't normally get loot unless it is given to us, we don't get faction points for our healing efforts.

in the corvet or geo lab we can't heal wounds or buff even with out med droids standing next to us.

I hope JTL has some non combat content that will be my decision point. so far SWG is just tolerable.

they have catered to the PvP PvE powerlevelers the random but static spawns get booring and most of the good missions are combat related.

all the GCW storie lines are combat based.

ler rebels do what rebels do sneek around. make it so smuglers can mask an overt group of rebels to look like imperials.

make it so player imps can take prisoners and put them in to dention cells where if they leave with out the terminal out side the cell

being accessed (imp or rebel) then you get a tef make this a player option.

imps take the head of a guild prisoner for questioning and the guild moves in and rescues him.

make NPC rebels healable by docs, er imps also... i guess heh heh

there is more, much more than top end combat

that is just a run away train

JTL alinko moves her salvage craft near the stricken X-Wing and plays her repair beam accrost the damages sections of hull repairing what she can, she also trades a fresh rack of sliced plasma torpedos from her cargo bay.

or better yet a ship that has landing bays.

Well ive been a Master Doc now for a couple of months and i really enjoy the buffing side (guildies and friends get buffed for free) i have tried the crafting side for the past couple of weeks but its cost me ALOT of money for resources...but i find it tooo stressful to craft buff packs...altho i can only craft 33/839/11262 atm (ive giving crafting up yesterday)

But i do enjoy going to coro and buff ppl

I can remember going on a hunt to Tusken Fort with a few ppl...none of them were masters in the combat prof..apart from me (swordsman) and i remember reviving someone (he was a noob) and he was like 'Wow, how did u do that'...made me feel good at being a Doc

Every profession can be grinded in one or two days, if you have access to everything needed : money.

Doc crafting would be nice if it wasnt so dependent on resources, and more dependent on doc skills. (i mean player skills, not player character)

I have been a master doc for a few weeks now and I've loved every minute of it. Though it's been pretty crazy for me so I haven't had the chance to start really sitting down and crafting my own buffs/meds. I do keep the other docs in business though so hehe. Anyway, it does take a certain kind of personality to really enjoy being a doctor. I sometimes have a seat in Coronet or at MO and start up a buff line and charge normal 10k but most of the time for myself, friends, newbs, etc, I'll do freebies. When I go solo group hunting on Dant, I like to announce to the group that if they die, I'm there to rez.

One instance when I really really enjoyed doing what I do is when I was helping someone work on their squad leader xp by telling people to join with squad leader bonuses and a master doc. Got a good group formed and well, because it was fort tusken and I'm pretty sure I was one of the only master combat profs there, (swords), so they'd call me for help, heal, or rez. Maybe it's just me, but I felt pretty cool dragging the injured out of harms way to the gate where they could safely recuperate/get healed. Parts of it were hard and stressful but I felt good afterwards being a needed part of the group.

In short, I wouldn't trade doctor for anything.
