Thread: How to solve the mind healing in combat issue

We don't know yet. Several possibilities have been discussed. I've participated in discussions about:

  • letting squad leaders heal it
  • letting entertainers heal it in the field
  • letting medics heal it, but take mind wounds
  • letting someone heal it but slowly, so they have to stand next to the healee for a substantial amount of time (and need covered, etc)
  • adding a new camp type that only heals mind pool

I'm sure there's even more ideas floating around.

-Raph Koster,

The way it should be done is that Medics should be given a new item - Painkillers. Painkillers would naturally help someones mind as the pain of the injuries would be numbed and the person could continue fighting - thus healing the mind pool. The problem is that Painkillers would only be a temporary solution, after a set amount of time the damage to the mind pool would return, the Painkillers would also not cure mind wounds - these things would keep the Entertainers in demand.

If I take a mind wound to heal somebody's mind damage, I'm not even bothering loading the command. Where do they get these idiotic ideas from?

I still think that it's too much power for the medic class. The fact that only action and health can be cured by a medic is a purposeful limitation. Otherwise, the medic characters would be way too powerful.

Mind damage healing should be done by entertainers. For those of you who say that entertainers don't belong in battle, perhaps there should be an combat entertainer hybrid profession.

Doctors should be able to heal mind dmg, but not at the cost of their own mind wound.

In the case a doctor needs to heal it's own mind pool : it means he already have dmg in this pool, he'll take more dmg healing, and he should take wounds on top of that ? !! **edit**

Nah, please, make is dmg health or action pool, but not wound mind pool plz

Master doctors should be able to enhance the mind pool like the other two pools.

While everybody starts screaming 'unbalanced', the current game system, where pets have huge mind pools that can be instantaneously healed with 'trick1', is already hugely unbalanced, in an anti-human player way. This entire game revolves around pets, solely because of the mind pool issue.

The last thing i want to see is another Bard type character running around the battlefields. Its pretty much been done to death. As much as i would REALLY like to have the ability to heal mind wounds....i dont really think its in the Medic / Doctor / CM area of specialty. We handle physical wounds.

Should Entertainers get it? God i hope not. Squad Leaders on the other hand....it would make sense and would also help ou and underplayed class and really give them something valuable. Let the Entertainers entertain, the Doctors heal the mind and let the Squad Leaders rally the morale of those theyre leading.

Aye, of all the ideas...I liked the Squad Leader the best. A good leader will help his troops, and it makes sense in a combat way. While some could argue for doctors (and I disagree)...it leads to too many exploits.

BTW, I thought I should note for those who think letting Engertainers do all the mind-related-stuff is part of the design philosophy of SWG, I thought I would toss out a quick history lesson. In earlier Beta.... Medics could heal mind damage.

It was yanked, because (since their concerns are so wrapped up in character progression, even though it is, even by thier own admittance, on the very beginning stage of the game) it was exploitable. Instead of determining ways around the exploit, they took away medic mind healing of damage. It was the easy fix and they haven't gotten back around to look at it (nor fully considered the implications, even when we told them those implications back in Beta) until now.

So Mind is not some sacred Entertainer Cow. Never has been.

That being said, it doesn't bother me too much if we didn't get mind damage healing. I'll probably drop a lot of CM, though, if we don't for a profession that does, but oh well.

I think some folks assign some great philosophical significance and extreme Dev foresight into an issue that really never was there to begin with.

Wait! You could be onto something!

I see this as either a doctor medication (Painkillers) or an entertainment ability which I would call "A Song In The Mind".

The entertainer, in a camp, plays a song that is a 2-hour buff (realtime, logged in or not, like doctor buffs). It's very inspirational and catchy.

This buff causes you to regenerate mind wounds by doing damage. So if you're a doctor running around healing people, this buff does nothing for you. If you have time to stop and shoot someone, it will give you 10% of your damage dealt back as mind pool. The inspirational song you have stuck in your head rejuvinates you as you run around righteously slaying rebels! Or whatever. So like a rifleman does a 3000 damage shot that costs him 150 mind to do, and the buff causes him to get back 300 mind.

Just like a carbineer can shoot forever with the help of a medic, a rifleman can shoot forever with the help of an entertainer.

In combat, a brawler would be able to stay near 100% mind pool because every time he hits the Picket for 1000 damage, he gets 100 mind back, thus enabling him to take mind hits and live.

In PvP, the BH hits you in the eye for 200 damage, you shoot him back for 300 damage and get 30 mind pool. He's still killing you, but at a reduced rate, as long as you have this buff and can keep hitting him.

Could be a doctor buff, I just say "entertainer" cause hey, they might as well be good for something.

... and a doctor could use this entertainer buff to regenerate his own mind damage, but he would have to stop healing and start fighting to do it, thus really negating the ability to use this as an "exploit". Healing and fighting at the same time is a good way to lose patients, in my experience.

Pho: The workaround is to have two pets. Or just to run real well. All you need to do is to Peace and call the pet to you (usually while some other pet is keeping the MOB busy) then you can give the trick command and send it back into the fight with an insta-mind-heal.

Now if only I could do that with a PC tank. "Hey! TKA-Dude! Play! Hehe, I love healing his mind that way."
