Is there any NPC that is known to drop them frequently? I really want to avoid spending a gajillion credits if I can.

its all luck my friend.....your bets are just hitting fort tusken....or killing higher lev (10K ham or over) NPC'si have looted my best tapes off of merc's on lok.....

Yeah its all random, but if the Devs fix the loot tables...(instead of creating new forum ranks) then you'd see med xp drop off of higher level mobs. The best stuff that drops now are usually from Nightsisters and Dark Jedi Knights/Masters. Though getting a med XP drop from them is like 1/100,000. They aren't as easy to drop anymore with their powers back, so you might have problems.
Though you could always hit POI caves and hope for a +1.. i've Never seen one, but hey doesn't mean they don't exist from there.. Kinda makes you think thats where they come from though

Lord nyax drops some of the best tapes ive ever seen , though he also drops cryo grenades , and llc's . Im on eclipse and honestly the line to kill lord nyax is a bit long hes camped like a koa on the 4th of july , which is weird because youde think peep would go someowhere better ,.

Quite honestly the game doesnt have many places better 2 or 3 dozen people can take up all the good places in the game and leave nothing to the rest of us.

You would think the krayt would drop good loot, being one of the more fearsome animals in the game. Even Rancors drop some decent loot at times (I got some boots with +5 poison resist a few months ago)

Some of the best places I've seen for obtaining clothing attachments include the various caves on Endor.

They do... but not always... if they always did then something wouldn't be rare anymore...
I recall someone along time ago looting some ABECs off a krayt. They were like Power1000 or something extreme. Stronger then Janta.. i'm pretteh sure those got taken out in favor of janta blood.

yeah, i found a weapon experimentation tape at the bottom of the Jinda cave, no medicine though

NS elders have a loot table of -25 to +25. You can also get in a solo group and spawn aukum champions on talus. They have a table of -6 to +6. Aukum's are a lot easier to kill and you can go for quantity.
Basically it'sa crap shoot. Just keep checking the trade forums and you'll sometimes get a bargain.
