I consider myself a "true" master doctor, because I don't limit myself to only the aspect that brings in the most money.

Makes me feel un-needed as a healer.

"Know thier role" my ass. If I can give someone something that would enable them to make over 100-200k an HOUR, then I expect them to VALUE it and pay a price I set for such an item. When you go to the real life doctor, they dont expect you to get treated for free. You wait in the waiting room and make a copayment before you can even see the doctor, unless you have a serious wound that needs ER treatment, then they patch you up best they can and then take all your money. The problem with the game is people can just run away without paying after a serious wound treatment and not have to worry about lawsuits.
I'm merely saying docs were put in the game to help, but yes, at a decent profit. The devs didn't see buffs getting as high as they are, nor as popular (which is why they are unfortunately saying that multiple-k buffs will no longer happen). I try not to compare SWG to real life too much, except that my RL cuts into SWG playing time (THE NERVE!). Buffs are the way docs make money, but people are assuming that's ALL they do, and some docs are BUILDING that rep that all they are good for is sitting in theed/coronet advertising, making lines, and buffing for cash.
I buff in coronet, I make money, but I also go on group hunts, pvp occasionally, heal those in cantinas (area stims rock), and try to help everyone I can. I don't WANT to be the "treat you and take all your money" RL doc, I want to help people, make my share of the profit, and continue doing that. I just don't like seeing so-called "master" docs that can't even heal wounds or cure a person's disease. Is it really that much trouble to try and be more helpful instead of just being the galaxy's buff bot?
