Thread: Combat Revamp nerfing buffs?
This all said, admittadly I too am addicted to buffs... hopefully the revamp can cut us all from it, cold turkey style.
Making Doc a 90% worthless profession.

No one can confirm this because what you heard is a rumor, nothing more. I wouldn't be surprised if they did though, considering that currently how unbalanced buffs are. Honestly, even as a long time MDoc, I *hope* they nerf buffs... or the new way that HAM costs will work don't interact with buffs like they do now. The SWG community has become FAR too dependant on buffs as it is, no one knows how to form a group and go hunting w/o them anymore. What fun is a game when you have no chance of death?

Nerf the buffs and 80% of the Doc population will drop. Good, half of them are giving the real Doctors a bad name anyways.

Useless? Hardly... I haven't been a MDoc for almost 9 months now for the buffs... heck, before they were popular they were bugged [hence being unpopular] ... I was still Doctor then. Just because 80% of the Doc population now is only a Doc for the buffs, doesn't make it a useless profession w/o. Useless to people who only have it for buffs maybe, but in my mind they aren't Docs anyways. Just get-rich-quick-schemers and people so addicted to them that they don't feel they can afford to buy them.

Your opinion.
Explain to me what a doc does w/o buffs that is useful, and pays for the resources used for crafting any of the items required.
Before buffs, a doctor was a valuable addition to any group. Now we are no more than a tool to make the mortal immortal. Who needs rez when you don't die? Who needs big heals when you don't take enough damage to matter [armor mixed with buffed regen is to blame here]? They fixed buffs and I guess that made our profession better. Funny, going from a valuable group member to a pre-group tool doesn't seem like too much of an improvement to me.
Too often lately I see a buffer sittin in the starport [no surprise here] and someone will get to the front of the line and ask if they can heal up wounds first, and the doctor replies "sorry, I don't have any wound packs"... and not as often, but more often than it should, I see a doctor mouthing off to the customer for even asking. These are the people that saw a doctor buffing in the starport, apparently making tons of credits, so they decided to "jump the bandwagon" so to say... they're too busy making their credits to heal some wounds. Before the buffing craze, the drive to become a Doctor was to help people, and that's the way it *should* be.
Maybe I've just been playing as a Doctor too long, remembering the "good ol' days" or whatever. I know that when I threw up MDoc for the first time, people looked at me and where happy to see someone that could fix them up quick, or a valuable member of a group. Nowadays, when I throw up MDoc, all people see is a buff whore.
Now, that further explanation puts me more on your side of the fence.
I always heal (wounds and points), I rez if they aren't on other planets, and I generally try to do everything I can.
I keep doctor for the money (but then again I work my ass off to sell buff packs, it is NOT easy) and I take pride in the product I produce and sell.
I agree that docs who only buff with no time for anything else bring little to the profession, but I also believe that buffs overall are our greatest commodity.
Doctor profession aside and stepping back and looking at the game as a whole, you have to admit the obvious dependancy on buffs these days. People will stand around for hours w/o playing just so they can get a buff first, and I think [as a player, not a Doctor] that is ridiculous and should be "nerfed"... I put nerf in quotes b/c in my mind it would make the game as a whole better off and more fun. People will start grouping again... not solo grouping, actually hunting together.
I, myself, am guilty of the dependancy as well, I'm willing to freely admit it. It's something that I'm not willing to break as long as it's here for me, but at the same time I'm hoping someone will break it for me [in this case, the devs].
"We are cranking on the Combat Balance, and we think development on it will span 2 more publishes. This is an extremely sweeping and in-depth overhaul that will include the HAM revamp, speed formulas, weapon balances, weapon certifications, weapon stats, profession roles and balances, specials, armor balances, DoT balances, and buff balances. Obviously we want to get this right, so we are taking the time to do so."
From the newsletter that sent out.
Buff balances is just another way to said NERF! Probably a bit too way as everyone is used to being their own tank. They should have done the combat balance long time ago. People will be in for a shock when they actually have to group again
