Are you kidding me? It should be an utter mystery and mind bendingly difficult. This shouldn't even be a question.

you should begin the path almost as a tutorial exhibit the force and explain what it is and how it works similar to the movies explanation AKA ben kenobie or yoda style and the quest as you advance gets increasingly more difficult to locate NPCs and proform required tasks and exp goals.

I don't think there is much utility in giving my thoughts on how the system should work since at this stage its probably already decided and mostly programmed.
That said I think the path should be known. I'm in the "there shouldn't be any jedi" camp. I'm a person who never played a mmorpg before and only joined this one because its star wars. The jedi system has been the biggest cause of player frustration in the entire game. I know many people that did the hologrind and didn't appear to enjoy one minute of it. Like everyone else I know folks that have 25+ professions done without an unlock and from their utter depression you would think that someone had a gun to their head all day yelling "grind! grind!". So make it painfully obvious. Give the people what they want already, they are paying for the game and your continued livelyhood.
But something has to be done to accomodate the people that don't want Jedi running around like roaches. They get into everything and we're powerless to kill them. The old system that at least kept them masked was preferable to seeing them in their robes holding sabers all the time. I want them to have their fun and have given up on the continuity ranting. I think we should petition Lucas to recut A New Hope to paste Jedi in the background of all the scenes. How much cooler would the Vader/Kenobi fight be if there were 50 other Jedi fighting around them?
I get a headache when I see the ad for the game on theforce.net that lists "creat your own star wars heroes, join the fastest growing on line community and become a jedi" as the description of the features. Shouldn't it say... become a weathly business man.... smuggler spice for Jabba.... hunt other players for bounties... become an officer in the empire... Wait... sounding too much like the continuity rant.
So anyway if there are going to be a lot of Jedi (a lot being >0) then allow for a way that the rest of us can enjoy the game without their influence. All of that said when the patch goes in I will very likely try to unlock my slot. Why? Well untill JTL, what else is there to do? The last and next couple of patches are bringing very little in non-jedi content except to nerf everyone to the point where we will have zero chance against them.
So make the path obvious but get back to designing the game that the rest of us signed up to play. (i.e. the smuggler revamp!!!)

Known...
but add some content to it... make it fun... but hard... keep away from the mistakes EQ made with epic quests where one has to camp a spawn for weeks to get a special piece of loot that only spawns once a day.... that is just frustrating and boring....

Unknown for sure. If you don't, it's going to turn this game into 95% of the population into jedi. Make it unknown, so people get back to their regular playing, and stop grinding. It'll make the game a ton better, and things such as the GCW will get a huge increase, therefore making the game better.
