Thread: Vehicle Issues...
I have a few concerns.
1.) The autostoring of vehicles while you are riding them. This can be really irritating if you are in the middle of an ocean at the time.
2.) Having to be in a city, or camp to pull out the vehicle. I REALLY don't like that... especially since they autostore at the most inconvinent times. It's something that was irritating about pets, but with vehicles its been a major problem.
3.) the decay on the vehicles is a bit overboard. In one day of using the speederbike I had, I have spent more money in repairing it from it just existing, than I paid for the thing to begin with. It constantly takes damage regardless of whether you are riding it or not. I have heard from several people that their speeders just went poof, and were destroyed all in one day!
Since they are like structures in many ways, could there not be a "Maintenance pool" for them like there is for houses? When you ride the vehicle, it uses up the credits from the pool (it's like putting gas in your car!). If the vehicle has nothing in it's maintence pool, then it would start taking damage while you use it.
The only thing I know for sure about out of range and vehicles disapearing is it happens alot when i'm in town. In town the vehicle will get stuck on a wall next to the door opening but you don't actually know that until after your aways through town. I then stop, try to store and it say out of range. I dismount and my vehicle disappears. If It was selected i can still see it on my radar across town, I run back over there and it is outside of a doorway through a wall and I can then store it. If I mount the vehicle, it is stuck in that location and all i can do is pivot 360 degrees, cannot move it. So I just store it. This could also happen out of town if the vehicle gets stuck on rocks, trees or even harvesters and if you are far enough away it will warp back to where it got stuck, but if you are too far away then auto-store kicks in and instead of giving you the out of range message, it just stores it. I've crossed server boundaries that affect my ex-pets, but have had no vehicle trouble there. But In the town of Dearic, Talus if I zoom through the small wall openings it will get stuck most of the time and when i dismount it disappears just like out of town except in town I can just go to the edge of the city and find my vehicle.
So in conclusion, I believe the vehicles are getting stuck on an object, but letting you continue on, until the server finally realizes you and the vehicle are not in the same place and when it corrects it it warps the vehicle back and not you. Poof it disappears and if it's far enough away, then it auto-stores.
My only issue seems to be when the vehicle disappears, but I have buttoned down how this happens and how to avoid it.
The problem seems to be with the orphan vehicle code. If I do not mount or dismount my vehicle for 5 mins, it disappears. This problem became very annoying when trying to drive a 8km trip. I then found that if I simply dismounted after every 3k, and then mounted again, the problem would not occur.
As a programmer, it seems to me that the orphan vehicle code used for making vehicles disappear when left alone seems to be executing even if the vehicle is in use. Only mounting/dismounting/storing seems to reset the timer.
I've had my vehicle auto-store on me for the following:
- during combat (a kreetle aggroed me while I was driving and after a few seconds my vehicle disppeared right from under me)
- right after combat ended (something aggroed me whileI was drivingand when it gave up and I was back to "peace" mode the vehicle vanished from under me as soon as the combat HUB disappeared)
- when checking on my harvesters; I've actually had it disappear when checking my harvesters both on and offthe vehicle.
- and I've had it auto-store for no reason whatsoever (which might be a zoning problem)

are two small residences that can be entered, with an gap between them
leading to a door.
If you stand in the alley and look straight outwards, you line up with the
space between two small stone huts.
I drive in from outside of town, between thw two huts and stop in front of
door at the end of the gap. When I exit the speeder, it drives itself back
to between the two huts and parks itself.
I doesn't seem to matter how long I wait to dismount, and is 100% repeatable
so far.
One thing I find a bit odd:
When travelling over water, the vehicle is terrain-matching the ground beneath the water, so when skimming across an otherwise peaceful pond, the vehicle is bumping and listing... although it's still maintaining the same altitude above the water. This is most evident on Dantooine, where the ground below the water is exceptionally rough.
Something I noticed about the "vehicle poofing" bug:
While in Kor Vella, on Corellia, I repaired my bikeofaround 600 points worth of damage. About 10 minutes later Iwas travelling overlandwhen it poofed out from underneath me. One camp later and a call for my bike... and I recieved a bike with the same amount of damage that I had previously repaired, like it had retro'ed back in state. This happened again after I repaired in Coronet, and my bike poofed in the water on the way to Vreni Island. I reach the island, call my bike, and the damage was there again, although I can't be sure if it was the damage prior to the first poofage, or if it was damage accumulated after the first poofage and before the repairs in Coronet.
the vehicle when on water. Especially since they have the
swimming icon turned on at the time, so it's not like it's
not known.
