JustG, you MUST overhaul the crackdown or it will kill Smugglers.

Blah blah blah.

If American soldiers were searching for weapons of mass destruction, they most certainly would not search their superior officers. They would search the terrorists. A terrorist smuggler would have a better chance of getting past them, but a high ranking American soldier would have no trouble at all.

Am I getting through your thick skull?

Publish 6 will go Live next Thursday, February 12th, 2004.

Let the Imperial Crackdown begin!

Thanks,

Thanks JustG. I appreciate the efforts to increase communication and I hope that this sets a precedent.

Also, if something big comes up and you have to change the date, I promise not to complain. Take your time and make this the best patch release we've ever had!

Ok, let me explain this for those of you who don't quite get it.

...
The same kind of effect is going to happen to the smugglers. Imperials can call it pulling rank all they want. I call it stealing the smuggler's job and muscling in on our turf. It's a bad idea, it breaks the game balance, and it basically neuters smugglers in terms of their unique joband role in the galaxy.

I hear you, but before this patch you actually had nothing to smuggle in the first place.

This is actually adding a role for yuo that you never had.

Plus the Imperials need a little love because they are feeling outnumbered and maybe this will get some more people to join their side.

Thanks for the info, Gary!

And FWIW, I do think the communications have gotten significantly better...and I was against the board change.

I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong

This is from the perspective of a Smuggler...

At this point, a lot of Smugglers feel that the best thing for the profession is to simply eliminate contraband scans for now. Put them in the game later after they're fine-tuned.

Instead, do this:

Have the Stormtrooper teams should scan only for Rebel Faction.

Then use the penalties set forth previously.

Why no contraband scans? Because giving free contraband evasion skills to non-Smugglers would forever hurt the profession, since you can bet that it would be used as a precedent for future developments. It simply takes too much from Smugglers and gives too much to Imperials. There are other ways to empower Imperials in the GCW - to-hit modifiers in starter cities, for example -and the current plan for the Crackdownis a cop-out that would damage the game itself.

Think of it this way:

  • Would Weaponsmiths accept that Imperial Faction Recruiters could now give out 95% resist, 10 HAM encumbrance armor for 5,000 FP per piece?
  • Would Doctors accept that Rebels could buy a self-buff that increased all HAM by 5000 points for 50 FP from a Recruiter?
  • Would Entertainers accept that members of a Faction could spend 5 FP to clear all Battle Fatigue at a Recruiter?

No on all counts. It would make their profession irrelevant to the game, because you could get better results for investing Faction points than for investing skillpoints. Skillpoints matter. And neither the Devs nor many selfish players seem to understand just how much FP-purchased smuggling power would permanently cripple the Smuggler profession.

This isn't so say that contraband should never be scanned - not at all, since it's criminal activity that should carry a serious consequence. But there needs to be a radical overhaul to the system. If the Devs want to push the Publish live without critically wounding the smuggling part of Smugglers, they need to hold off on incorporating anything related to contraband into the scans.

Eliminate contraband scans for now in order to save Smugglers. Scan only for Rebel affiliation.

"We're dedicating a designer (Green Marine) next week to looking into fixing some of the bigger issues of the smuggler. (Yes, we are also looking at issues with the other professions, the smuggler just seems to be the one needing the most love at this moment)." Q-3PO - September 16, 2003

Nice to see that January's publish is not coming out until the middle of February now, lol. And apparently it will continue to be this way since they're not referring to the publishes anymore as months. It's now publish 6, publish 7, publish 8. Pretty much the last straw as far as i'm concerned. I'm not paying $15/month for a new build every couple of months.

Thanks for the info guys, it's good to be informed.

I was kinda hoping they'd, ya know, figure out how to not punish us up the ass for PvP and at the same time make crafters insanely rich, if you could just make a small note of it that would be great....kthnx

Sorry, but I am not gonna go gooo gooo just because we were finally given a release date for the publish. Many others here buckled like sheep, sorry not good enough for me.

One little tiny bit of info after the sh*t storm you guys caused ain't gonna right all the wrongs commited by you (the devs). It's a start...a very very very small start, but it's a start...

ya know, last time you stated a specific date you payed rather hard for it. I hope the same doesn't occur here again.

Leaving yourself some wiggle-room for legitimate issues that arise isn't an problem with communication it's the lack of answers for legitimate questions (i.e. when is x going to be addressed, are you even aware that Y is an issue in many peoples minds), saying in the next week to 2 weeks is fine. I'm sure no one would complain about that. I don't see this as all that beneficial as acknowledging outstanding issues, perhaps an automated system that says that your /bug report was read by Dev XXX. That I think would be much more useful than this.

thanks for the date though, hope you make it.
