Thread: State of the Game... more info...
So I get 1 starred off the bloody forum.
Why because I don't think Just G is doing squat. Why cause his word is like sand, it drivels out between my fingers and runs away to be found no more.
4 bloody months Ch has been waiting for the rest of the combat rebalance. 4 months we have been the laughing stock of SWG. In 4 months we have seen TKM and CM and Rifleman rise above the rest of the unwashed herd. No crying now is there. Yeah good for you, glad you are happy.
The one profession that wasn't borked out of the gate has been nerfed to death. Hope you Devs and all you dabblers and all you whiners are happy. We didn't want much, we were happy with the skill tree redistribution, even a slight down turn of pets but you have broken the profession JustG and I am supposed to stand up and cheer for you? I don't get it.
You have broken Brawler and Swordsman with the dismantling of Warcry, another big cheer? The Droid Invasion was a huge bust, yeah another cheer?
Give me something to cheer about ok. Fix something. Fix BH, fix pistoleer, fix CH I don't need another bloody dungeon to go to so others can yell at me and scoff and mock. I am tired of your lies, just once say what you mean, mean what you say and do something positive for the game.
If you doubt me check out the CH forum, I dare you, I dare you to post and leave your name. I dare you to answer our questions. It will never happen.
I would like ti chime in on SkyPreacher's post ehre. I was an MCH since early release and I loved it with all my MMO playing heart--until it was gutted in the CH Nerf. I am now a TKM--tried it to open my FS slot and kept it for the perks even though I prefer to use other combat skills. I do not now, nor will I ever believe that ANY player should be able to tank as well as a Mauler or Rancor. It is just stupid to think of that happening when we look at the movies behind this game.
Case in point: Luke (a.k.a. the Jedi Knight at that point) survived an encounter with a young Rancor only because he avoided being hit. He knew 1 hit would be the death of him--like it almost was from the much smaller Yeti-like critteron Hoth.
For us to be able to tank creatures that can now chew up Rancors and Maulers--and every other pet we have--in seconds is rediculous. CH pets should be the premier tanks in the game, period, end of story.
As a former master of all the melee clasess save Pikeman (gonna try it after you get some love cuz you poor bastages got nothing but screwed so far), I say with no reservation that your high end CH pets SHOULD whoop my arse if I take them on toe-to-toe and they should tanke NS's and Krayts and such far beyond my abilities--anduntil that day comes to the game, the class is broken.

You bring up an interesting point that has no simple answer. While it makes logical since that a rancor should out tank a puny humaniod, even in armor, it also makes since that a rocket launcher should turn that same rancor into a pile of goo in one shot. Storm Troopers are killed/incapped in one shot from Han's pistol, but take 10s of shots from that same type of pistol in the game. I think you see my point, while it logically makes since for stuff to function differently, the game does not follow logic.
I do agree the creature handler was nerfed too hard AND that some creatures are still broken. I also think that the melee professions should be good at tanking. If the melee professions are worse than pets, then whyhave melee professions? As it is buffs and armor are required to tank effectively. Why makeit evenworse?
CH was the first profession to be balanced according to the original balance plan.
To quote TH "Creatures and pets will seem too weak for a couple of months......untill we are finished"
THis leaves CH in a poor position indeed. Our pets tanking abilities are easily outdone by most Meele classes, as a result we have lost our niche in the scheme of things.
Is there a plan to rebalance CH so that it becomes a viable profession untill the Combat balance is fully executed. Or is CH going to be left in the limbo that is has been in since the great Creature adjustment patch (patch 5)?
Given this recent announcement, as Customers we deserve an answer of some sort.
Thank you
JustG,
Some day you will address the CH community. It will always be with egg on your face.Postponingthe rebalanceproves the major incompetence that leads the Dev Team at SOE. You can work on Space Expansion all you want. And the Dev team can spend all day flying Y-Wings as per the Stratics Chat. But you cannot explain why you nerfed our beasts, ignore our bugs, explain why we are the only profession with weapons timers, or even at this point convince me you give a spit.
For that I will reward you with the only loyalty I feel you deserve. The truth, this game is in the tubes. Tell marketting to get off your backs that SE will not launch. The fan base is poofing. I have it on good authority that the beast master in FF11 works. I want to stay but you nor any other Dev is making that possible. I will not spend 50 bucks on an Expansion at any time in the next two years if the playability of this game does not get better. The Illuminati Cirlce of Devs can keep the Secrets to themselves. But it is no secret we people playing SWG tell our friends "if your not a Star Wars fan, play another game."
The only thing keeping me here is Mr. Lucas' wonderful insight and ability to stir my imagination over the years. My friend in game who I dearly love. And the fact I will stay CH until the Devs delete if from the Game or TH drops over from a coronary that there is still that one last CH.
JustG:
I fully understand that significant changes such as combat rebalancing, the Jedi system changes and even the GCW re-vamp all need time. I want to thank you for communicating that schedule for us, that was very cool and much appreciated!
However, can something please be done on an urgent basis regarding the game breaking GCW bugs that are ruining the fun of it for many of us? In particular, I am referring to the shifting of base vulnerability times as a critical flaw that needs a fix asap.
As you can see, this was to be fixed back in September of 2003 but never was:

Other fixes in the pipe
- HQ privacy & permissions: soon, you will no longer be able to declare a factional HQ as "private" and bar opposing faction members from entering. Similarly, various other "norm" /command abilities used for structure interface have been disabled when used in the context of a factional HQ.
- HQ vulnerability window changing with each server reboot: soon, this too will not be the case. The original intent was to allow the instant of structure placement to dictate the owner’s (and owner’s faction’s) time commitment. The cycle will be reinitialized upon the placement following the patch in which this code is integrated, or (for those that choose not to redeed your HQ) at the time of server reboot with said code. My personal suggestion is to pay your maintenance and redeed your HQ prior to this patch. Failure to do so will result in your vulnerability window being chosen for you and customer service will have limited ability to assist with altering the selected vulnerability window.

Any plans to incorporate Star Warsy things into the game?

You can fix professions and add dungeons with all sorts of cool monsters.... but, please add aStar Warsy feel to this game.
Do you all plan to.....
- Fix the bug where we warp 100m from a /dismounted vehicle?
???
Game breaking? Maybe not. Extremely annoying and has been in the game forfar too long? YES.

I'll respond to some of the more popular questions about the State of the Game here:
Why is the Jedi Revamp being done before the GCW revamp?
Two reasons: First, the GCW revamp is a long-reaching, complex set of changes. It will take awhile to define, design, and implement it. Along the way, each publish, we are working on fixing broken things with the GCW to make it more fun. The large overhaul is a mid-term goal. Second, we really want to stop the hologrind. We feel that AFK macroers are not healthy for the game. We want it to stop as soon as we can. And yes, we are aware that we are the ones that put the system in place. This was not what we intended, but things have evolved to this point.
So what you're really saying is: "The Galactic Civil War for all intents and purposes has been broken since the start of the game and we've known this...yet have done nothing to begin implementation with a new system."
Points:
- GCW broken since release.
- You all have been aware of this.
- You all have done nothing to work towards fixing this yet.
- You still consider Jedi more important than all of us from Day 1(2) who are desperately waiting on this update. You assume since you've made us wait since Day 1(2), that another few months doesn't matter to us.
- You will fix Jedi first, even though there are professions from Day 1(2) that have needed fixing moreso than 4% of your customer base. (Smuggler, Pikeman, Commando, Droid Engineer.)
I guess what I don't understand is: If something has been severely broken and/or crippled since the very first day of release, why is it not being given the priority to be fixed? Why continue to let us customers suffer who have had to deal with this since Day 1? Is our money not as good as the 4% of the servers that are Jedi? Because if you answer "Of course your money is just as good as the 4% who are Jedi" - you sure aren't proving it to us.
Okay, here's an idea:
Knock it off with all the new content!!!!!!
We don't need new content when there is still old content that is broken!
We need bugfixes, hotfixes, profession fixes before we need something like freakin' Mandalorian armour. We need the Galactic Civil War fixed before the Jedi get special treatment again. We need game breaking stuff fixed before we get another "Ooooh, Ahhhhh" dungeon.
Have you even looked at the state of this game, let me refresh peoples' memories.
- Armour holes
- FD base shutdowns
- Covert base shutdowns
- Dead base shutdowns
- Combat Medic throwing farther than 64m
- Base times migrating
That's just a fraction of things that have plagued us since the first day of this game! And yet you guys focus on other *cough* "priorities", and the rest of the system fails. Doesn't anybody get that?
Look we know how many people have quit this game since release. We also know they outnumber the new subscribers. But still all your priorities are messed up! DeathWatch? Star Destroyer? Jedi?
Somehow, it just doesn't feel like Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided - it feels like Star Wars Galaxies: A Jedi Coddled.
Sorry for the rant, but I feel I've spent just as much money on this game as others have. And we're sick and tired of watching the whole "majority > minority" thrown out the window when it is needed most.
thank you very much justG, this kind of communication (the state of game address, and this thread) are exactly what we need.
thanks again
Here's a simple request. Make the Correspondent Forum Read-only for the normal people. That way we know what the Correspondents are saying, and can base our input off that. The Correspondents might be doing a good job, but we don't know.
We put up something for the Correspondent, the Correspondent doesn't say anything, and we're left in the dark. Then, when things roll around, you get a bunch of people who are pissed off. I've been here since launch, and really thinking about quitting, since there's too much emphasis placed on 34 people to see what you're doing, instead of the whole community.
