Thread: SWG Forum Ranking Changes...
I was thinking that a possible solution might be preventing someone from posting again for a certain amount of time if he/she is 1 starred on the same post over X number of times. Unfortunately this type of "punishment" probably wouldn't phase this type of person and it could also be abused by others with a grudge against someone (forum griefing).
The forum ranking system is designed to encourage productive posts, but how will it address people that don't care?

1. What If I just have my buddies go through and 5 star all my post wont that get me higher up pretty fast?
A: It may help in the short term but the more post ratings you have the less it has an effect on your ranking and will actually hurt you at the Higher post ratings. So the system naturally discourages this type of behavior.
Don't understand this?
How could a 5 star not improve your average unless you are already perfectly 5 stars across the board.
I just see the boards becoming more of a popularity contest and less a source of useful knowledge.
Also If someone 1 stars me, could I edit my post to be vulgar, then have the post deleted to remove this 1 star from my record.
Sounds greaet WOOT how long till its put in?

I heard Publish 16 will be revamping the Galactic Chancellor system, while Publish 17 will be revamping the way you get to Galactic Chancellor. Unfortunately, the Sig

If you see your self getting lots of low ratings you may go "oh wonder how I can post better to keep that from happening", or you can just choose to ignore it.
I disagree. I think it will make you go, "oh, I guess I shouldn't disagree with anyone. My opinion isn't welcome here." You could ignore it. I'd ignore it. Will everyone ignore it? I don't know. Some people take things more personally than others. I know a lot of people who avoid "the oboards" because of this sort of thing... :/
Exactly. Most people here don't use the stars as "quality of post" ranking, but rather "opinion like mine" ranking. too bad....
I agree with this. People are overall too concerned about their star rating/forum ranking. I also believe this will discourage people from suggesting things that go against the popular opinion.

- Don't change their forum title, otherwise some people will go for it just for "bragging rights". I don't understand it, but I expect that would happen.
- Once a poster gets flagged as a 1SN, they cannot rate any posts until:
- A certain period of time goes by (maybe a month or two)
- or
- They meet some minimum post/rating requirement (counting only posts after the flag gets raised). Say at least 20 posts, and a 3.0 average rating from75 differentpeople. This would keep 1SNs from using their own alternate accounts to "redeem" themselves.
And to the "why are they spending time on this instead of game system X" people: do you really think the SWG developers are the ones dealing with forum issues?
Oh, and finally, I think correspondants, admins, and devs should get the ability to give 6 stars. Because we're just cool like that. ![]()

I WOULD like this, except for the fact that about 20 or so 1-star bandits have been through my post history 1-staring everything that I've done...

This is an answer to similar questions...
Most forum users have an average rating of 2.5 (right in the middle) with about 20 % over 3.0 and only 5% below 1.5. This alone proves that one star bandits (even for those that have stated that they get one starred a lot) do not have much of an effect. We KNOW that this is the average rating and that is why we posted this thread, the ratings are high at the moment but as I said we will lower the requirements if necessary. I am waiting for my metrics to update this week then we will decide ifwe want to lower the minimum rating for the star rated tree.
As I also said we are working with lithium and if possible we WILL have a "one star bandit" rating
this would not be something you could get by just rating 5 post with a one star out of 500 you rated.
