Thread: Icons over heads
It'd be nice if the SL could target a wounded person, and hit his special which makes all the Medics in the group select and forcefully heal that target (if they have any stims that is).
Yup i want an icon over anyone with wounds so i don't have to run around all of the city with my droid out and target everyone to see who i can heal for XP.
I think it should default on every time you get wounds, and you have to manually turn it off so that way people who don't even know it's on still get healed with out having to remember to turn some sort of tag on.
it would make it too easy to prey on the weak in pvp.
Health/status icons would make it easier for medics to fill their roll
within groups.
As for special icons for squad leaders, I could imagine a few. Squad
leaders could mark priority targets. It might also be nice to have an
icon that indicates when something has been targeted by a member of
your group. This would allow members to see who isn't being dealt with.
It could also work the other way around, putting an icon over the head
of anyone attacking a member of your group. This would make it easier
to avoid drawing additional enemies into a fight by accident, and focus
on the ones that are already attacking.

Potential downside, it allows enemies to pick out the badly hurt people to target in pvp.
way to counter-attack problem: only faction-aligned people will be able to see overt people's status
Icons over the head is a good thing.. see, "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" multi-player.

This led to a discussion on how a feature like this might work--what filters you'd want, who should be able to see the icons, how you turn them on and off.
Another suggestion was the ability for a group leader to set an icon over a target (I believe that the squad leaders have already asked for something like this as an ability). Ability for anyone? For SL's only?
What do you think about all these notions?
Ok only if its toggleable and only GROUP members can see it. You dont have to make it a skill (but you cant).
While your on floaty icons above heads. Can we get a option to see toggle on floating HAM bars over our enemies or anyone. I know this could be a problem, but something would be nice.
Heres the big problem, im watching a DUEL between two people i HATE clicking one, then clicking the other.. lets not even talk about how many times i miss click (i have terrible aim with the mouse). I would like a Drag away HAM bar like UO had. Ethier make it last over the heads for a little while, or let us drag off a HAM bar to the edge ala UO. SOMETHING, please.
Oh and go back to Percentage HAM bars

I think it is a great idea, but please make sure there is an on/off switch to prevent PvP griefers.
Also what will be the "wound" threshold on it? i.e. when will it turn on?
As for the TEF thing, that should only be visiable to the player not the world. You can float that over my head so i know or put it in my HAM bar, but no one else should see it.

Nice idea. Make Squad Leaders able to designate a target with an icon. Also allow people to have an icon over their head, by their own choice, when badly wounded.
Personally, I don't like things floating over peoples heads. It kind of ruins the immersion for me. It alsodecreases the need for things like, say, players talking to each other. Not a big fan of the blue floaters over NPCs with quests. That being said, if it goes in, it should be able to be turned off. I'd give all icons like this a seperate switch and not tie it to other items like names.
As far as the SL having a placeable icon, I think thats a good call. Make it so just the group members can see it.
The last thing we need is more visual clutter, especially when bad wounds are already visible to anyone who's grouped or takes the time to look at the bars over your head.
Will it help to locate someone in a swarm of people? I doubt it. You'd have a bunch of icons floating around in addition to all the names already floating there. If anything, it will make it harder to pick someone out of a tightly packed group.
I'm not opposed to the idea of having a /cryforhelp command, where you pop up a red cross over your head to indicate you need medical attention or something along those lines. It should only be triggered voluntarily, though, and should be able to be toggled off if for whatever reason you don't want help. Similarly, I don't see anything wrong with a SL or group leader being able to iconify a target for the rest of the group (though it hardly seems like a great perk for the poor SLs).
Is there any key to cycle your target through friendlies? That's really all that's needed to see who needs medical help quickly. Fighting against a group of enemies, a simple TAB-TAB-TAB-TAB-TAB is enough to tell you who you can dispatch of most quickly and who you should run away from. If you could just hit a key to cycle through friendlies in the area (who aren't grouped) it wouldn't exactly be rocket science to figure out who's hurt. It's just a pain when you have to hunt and click.
Regardless, there's already a way to indicate you need medical attention. Make two macros like these and spam them incessantly whenever you get a wound:
- For health or action wounds: "/shout (YourNameHere) Hungry!"
- For mind wounds: "/shout (YourNameHere) Play!"
I guarantee that will be less annoying than everyone running around with goofy icons over their heads.
