Thread: Weekly Rountdable Discussion (Week Ending 1-25-04)

Please Please bring back our general discussion forum. You dont need to read it (other than for foul language moderation etc). But give us a central place where we can discuss in a thread oriented fashion general ideas.
Better idea: Move the Core Systems forum from Professions (where nobody can find it) to the top level of the forum page (where people can find it). It had been there a week before I even learned of its existance. It doesn't belong under Professions, as Core Systems isn't a profession. It should be at the top level to cover general gameplay.
I find it peculiar you're polling users for game requests, yet completely ignoring are requests (or demands, the case may be) for the return of a general game discussion forum. Tunnel vision is not becoming.
I once put 500k worth of stuff in a bag and offered it on a vendor. The whole lot went missing...the CSR said it was my mistake as it was a known feature to stop storage cheats and it was my own fault (in thread blah on forum blah...didnt see the need to read the formus in the Eula but anyway).
Wow. If a known issues list would have helped ? Nah, CSRs should have to work some, too. ![]()

Second, they aren't hunting a large enough quantity. I need stacks of meat in the thousands. Third, they're charging outrageous fees. 35 cpu, for a resource which comprises 22% of a pet stim, consumes nearly 85% of the overall cost of the stim. I'd rather spend a few hours hunting on my own than pay a Ranger the prices they're asking. My opinion, you've priced yourselves out of business. When I was a ranger, I used to fill massive orders for Tatooinian wooly hide for a Master Tailor I knew. I charged 4 cpu. Period. Made a fortune doing so, without the need to force her to pass on exceedingly high costs to her customers.

A few suggestions...
Make a FARM as a type of harvester so doc's can get avian and herb meat without having to beg thier entire PA to go out hunting for them. Then what will us rangers do???
My point exactly!
Armor for mounts? Any word on when this is headed in? I like the speeder color customization but I would really like to see the armor.

Ability to move objects up and down
In progress
YAY! I wanted to suggest this myself; I'm glad that it's already in the works.
I assume that the command will now be /move <forward|back|up|down> distance
Another suggestion I have for you in this category has to do with item rotation. Right now the command is:
/rotate <left|right> degrees
The rotation takes place in only one plane, the XY plane. Could this be changed so that we could rotate in all three planes? Sure, it will probably make for some very surreal house decorating, but if used with good taste it would be very cool. For example, being able to set a sword horizontally or set a rifle vertically, for display in a house... or setting up a room to look like a totally chaotic workshop, where some eccentric genuis does his work...
Would this be possible at all?
When wil the little bugs be fixed?
1) Harvesters have lost their animations with the last publish (December).
2) Many many many of the named NPC quests are broken and cannot be completed.
3) Vehicles are STILL poofing, they have NOT been fixed as we keep getting told!
4) So many pointless things, clothes decay to 0% but still work thus doing away with one of the main reasons for having decay which is supposed to benefit tailors, survey tools do the same thus not benefiting Artisans.
5) You said you were going to be more communitative but it seems we are actually hearing less at the moment and when we do get a post it seems to completely contradict what the players want (ie this latest DE post you have made in this thread)
I'd like to see some sort of clothing customization, similar to the upcoming vehicle customization. Here are my thoughts and reasons...
Crafting clothing and putting it up on a vendor is certainly convenient, except that the colors of items placed on the vendor might not reflect what the customer's looking for. This results in tells and emails asking for thus and such an item in another color.
What I'd like to see is a clothing customization device Master Tailors can craft, which allow a customer to change their clothing color exactly ONCE.
How: If the item in question is in its default colors, allow the color to be changed. If the item's colors are not the defaults, it's already been modified -- don't allow it to be changed again.
This would (IMHO) make life easier for Tailors, allowing them to make custom items as requested, but also allowing them to craft items with their default colors for vendor sale, and allowing the customer to select the final color.

RE: one character per sever
I know you had a big problem with this when it was anounced in beta and having played other MMO's i felt it was a bit odd myself.
then i thought about it and decided it was probably a good idea. i am the type of player who likes trying many different types of play style so i usualy end up having a bunch of mediocre characters so having this restriction would force me to play one character to the top of my chosen proffession.
i didnt mind the one character per server deal until about 2 weeks ago when i maxed out my character, he is master commando/master medic and i love his build. he is great and i am not changing him one bit. my problem now is that i want to try a whole new character type. and max the new one out but i dont want to go on a different server to do it. i dont care about lots, i dont want to join a different faction and become a spy. i just want another character i can level up thats in my current guild and server.
I am not sure the reasons why there was a restriction put in for the number of characters you can have per server. i heard one argument was so that one person could not be so completly self sufficiant in having a crafter character and a fighter and not going out to buy stuff from other players. also another argument was having too many lots, if you could have 6 characters on one server thats too manylots for one server to handle for one player.
i think at this point of the game these points are moot. we as players can already see you have the programing to prevent characters from having lots (jedi)and it wouldnt be much of a stretch for an account to have to pick one faction for any particular server (kind of like planetside). then all you have left is the self sufficent thing. this is already a useless argument. players who want another character can just spend 30 dollars a month instead of 15 and there you go he is self contained crafting machine with all the lots that go with having two acounts. atleast if it was on one acount you could protect each galaxie from alt character spies and having more than one set of lots.
I want an extra character for exploring the game i love in a different way without killing the character i have established or leaving my friends behind to play on a different server.
this goes to the heart of the game, i know. and is very general. but i would like to hear your inside thoughts, TH,as to why this is such a bad idea... i mean for the players like me whose goal isnt to grind endlessly every proffession to get an alt character, itsrather harsh especialy since you can master an elite proffession so quickly.
the game has been out for long enough, its time to examine this issue again.
Thunderheart,
In regards to the following quote:
" . . .because the Droid Engineers were very clear in telling me they wanted Droid Engineering and Droid Handling as two seperate professions."
Where did this come from? Due to the enormous difficulty and complexity of your job (Lord knows, no sane person would envy your task), I've always given you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to interpreting and communicating the concerns of the various professions. And I wish to do so in this case as well. But you MUSTprovide some basis for this statement. Post a link where the DE community discussed the notion of a DH class in a favorable way, or cut-and-paste some private communications (edited, of course, to keep the source anonymous), or something that can explain this statement. It doesn't even have to be a GOOD explanation, just something that could even be REMOTELY interpreted as "DEs want a DH class". Do so, and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt again, and accept that this was an unfortunate miscommunication/misinterpretation. If not, I'm sorry to say, your credibility will drop to less than zero in my eyes (perhaps other eyesas well, but I only speak for myself)
Sincerely,
What makes this even more funny is TH was there as well.

It's fascinating that Last night all the droid engineers from across all the servers gathered together in-game on Ahazi for one big meeting. During that meeting this idea was universally rejected by an overwealming majority of them. Combine that with the fact that the DEs have been saying for weeks not to do this, the correspondent has been telling him for weeks not to do this, and we also nowhave a running poll that is saying that the community is against this. How much more clear do we have to be?
great Q&A TH, thank you very much (I translated 11 of the 17 questions and answers into german for our news
)
I am very exited about the Droid Handling Profession, this will finally make that SWG feels "Star Warsy", I am looking forward to it and I'll like to give my feedback on the "In Development" threads.

I don't know who is right, but TH's idea is just GREAT,
and it is also logic:
BE - CH
DE - DH
I don't know what you guys want, but to give the combat ability to the DE's wouldn't make much sense.
