Thread: Publish 7 Feedback: Sliced Weapon Tag

Yes, but as I posted in the ealier thread (think the in testing thread) slice % really has no value to a weapon after its been sliced. First of all there are a fair number of cases where there is no difference at all with the acutal stats of a weapon give a variety of different slices (this is most extreme when getting a speed slice on an already fast weapon). Charging a variety of different amounts for taking 0.5s off of a 2.0s pistol is just silly and anyone trying to charge you more for a 26% slice in this situation then a 24% slice is scamming you.
Also, when dealing with post-sliced weapon market the slice % has no value at all... if two weapons have basically the same stats they are worth the same. It doesn't matter if one got there by starting off good and getting a poor slice and the other getting there by starting off a bit worse but getting a great slice.
All you need to know is that the item was sliced. End of story.
(and for the record, I am a master smuggler who charges a flat fee for my services)
man between this and the static buffs and the vehicle calling this is my favorite patch EVER ![]()

very nice, maybe one day we could get a tag that lists the amount of the slice on the item, like speed/dmg %. As it stands this was a nice addition
I second this notion.

Good Job!
The Indicator is also needed in vendors.
I think, that its not really important, to integrate more detailed information about the slice. That would be affect on Weapon Crafters prices negatively, i think.
A bad weapon with a good slice would be bigger charged as now and a very good weapon with a bad slice would devaluate the item.
Yes, i could see it!! ![]()
Cool thing to know whats sliced!
normal examine : works fine
vendor : does not work .. NEEDS to work
Suggestion : if possible the type and % of slice needs to show with examine
Suggestion : put the word SLICED in somewhere
Have fun

Slice % should not appear affixed permanently on weapons because people place too much weight on the number aleady. I mentioned the case above were a variety of slice %ages will result in the same weapon. How much is a 45% encumberance slice on a PSG worth? And how much is a sliced CDEF worth? What if its got a 35% damage slice? Isn't it still just a CDEF at heart? If you're at an armor vendor why would it matter to you what the slices are? You'd buy the best you could afford that was available and if the end product wasn't good enough you'd go elsewhere. Or if the stock seemed low you'd come back another time. In terms of markup on those vendors, as a consumer wouldn't you probably buy crappy slices from a better AS because the 2nd tier AS had insane markups on their "perfect" sliced gear?
Now, there is another argument for slice tags on equipment listing type & % and that's to keep smugglers honest during the act of slicing. Smuggler Joe charges 100cr/% change, tells you that he got a 33% slice and you have to trust him on it and give him your 3300credits. Sure, this may alleviate some doubts you may have, but in no way does it solve the trust issues in the process. Part of the reason I charge a flat fee is so I have nothing invested in the outcome i can't control - not to ease customers trust, although it tends to do that too. But even that doesn't go far enough.
Take a step back and look at the process. The entire process is based on relationship and trust. If you don't trust a smuggler to report you the %ages accurately then what the hell are you doing handing them your brand new 400k suit of composite and 2 brand new t21s on top of that? You can't be worried about them trying to 'cheat' you for 200credts if you're not worried about them running off with 500k of your gear.
Now, personally, I enjoy the fact that its a relationship on trust. The only reason I slice gear is for the interaction with my customers, not because I like performing some meaningless clicking over and over all day and not because I need more credits in my bank account. However, if there was a real problem with this trust then the only way to solve it is to have a different method for slicing someone else's gear where (a) the customer doesn't 'let go' of their gear (b) you agree on a price up front and (c) the outcomes of slices are clearly displayed to both parties and (d) there's no way for the client to 'back out' of the process after they see an outcome. To this end, I'm really *really* curious to see what the devs are thinking with this new Image Designer interface they've been talking about for the next publish. I think if slicing were to get an overhaul with the Smuggler revamp that might be a good place to base the ideas for an interface like this.
