Thread: In Develepment #2004-1: Changes to the Official Forum Take 2

What I want to know if how is it going to be "Better Communication" from these locked threads when:

1. You post on a 77 page thread and your post is added to the end of the thread, instead of new posts being on top.

2. How is it easier for a Dev to look through 100 posts for 3 ideas instead of a post that has the problem in the title. Then here or she can view it or not.

You would think that if someone posted a thread with the title of:

"Stim B's are taking forever to work"

It is short to the point, and the Dev could look at it and say hmmmmm what is this!

Obviously, he could ignore threads that are obviously just a rant by looking at the title. I have been the admin and programmer for a number of forum boards. I am familiar with what layouts work and what doesn't. Progman, you are just giving blank justifications that in a real world situation are not logical. It is much easier for a good post to be lost in a long thread then reviewing thread content via titles. After reviewing the first 40 posts a person gets distracted, and more likely then not will just breeze through the rest.

This is obviously just another tactic for the devs to have plausable deniability when issues pile up. Anyone with even an inkling of common sense can see that.

Since we can no longer post in the Discussion session. I was wondering when the DE "In Concept" thread was going to be created. After all one Sony rep stated that the forum would be going lice on Jan 12, 2004.

To date this has not happened.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Armorsmiths have never gotten a report on our Top 5. Wasn't this supposed to happen in November?

I don't know about anyone else but it appears as if there is now LESS communication. In 5 days there has been ZERO communication with the players. Is PEX the only one working right now?

Did anyone read the article in the back of GAMES magazine. "Starwars Galaxies 6 months later"? It toasted this game, not a very kind article but very accurate.

OK, gang. I'm as annoyed about the loss of the Discussion forum as you are, but it's time to just let it go.

No.
We need some place for everyone to discuss general SWG topics.
If we all decide to go to the general Star Wars forum to discuss general SWG topics, oh well.
At least we have someplace for all forum participants to talk about SWG, whether the devs monitor it or not. That doesn't matter.

However... I do have a constructive suggestion:create a General Discussion forum that is closed off to new threads by Community Members, but allows new threads to be created by Community Leaders, whowould be player/forum members who have demonstrated an ability and willingness to offer new ideas and to discuss general game aspects in a positive way.

While that does sound like a good suggestion, it still limits our ability to discuss general developmental topics or ideas.
Many people are upset that there is no place for players to give suggestions, comments and discuss ideas. But without an open forum, we'll still only be discussing topics someone else has thought up. There's still no place for all players to submit and discuss their own topics.
And on another note, though I too am upset that there is no open forum for player idea discussion, there were also many discussions on the SWG forum that weren't specifically 'ideas' but questions, information, and just plain "Hey, what race are you" types of posts - general discussions about SWG not even pertaining to development.

Thiswould allowplayersa limited ability to discuss topics that are relevant to SWG but that don't fall into a specific category -- in other words subjects thataren't specific to a particular galaxy or profession, but that do relate specifically to SWG features. Community Leaders would have rights (within the General Discussion forum) to create new threads and lock old threads.

The advantage to players is that there would again be a central location for discussing overallfeatures of the game. The advantage to SOE is that this forum would not be swamped by single-post rants/complaints/whines. Furthemore, if a Community Leader doesn't work out, he or she can be reset back to Community Member and replaced by someone who does a better job of keeping discussion constructive.

Seems like more work for SOE I don't know, it would be centralized, and it would cover general developmental topics, but it would not be OPEN. That's the whole point.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

Sorry?

I'm not sure which blank justifications you're refering to

Big database issues with the bazzars and vendors preempted Droid Invasion is what I heard.

Unfortunately, they labels this issue ID#2 - same as Droid Invasion.

It was supposed to be posted Wed Jan 14, but they must still be behind.

Hope they revise the schedule when it comes out so we don't have just 2 days to discuss it.

BTW, Driod Invasion is In Development. Which according to the definitions of the new Dev Cycle introduction means the design doc has already been, or is being, completed and we're being asked to help 'polish' it.

Not submit conceptual suggestions for design.

The system is still new. Hopefully after a few items make their way thru the system we'll get the hang of it.

This is my first SWG post so please forgive my ignorance.

Are you saying the reason i could not find the ID#2: Droid Invasion thread is because it still has not been started?
The "In Development" page on the web site says it should have started on the 5th. i can understand delays can be caused for many reasons: Unexpected bugs, new ideas etc... but but wouldn't it be just plain Curtsy to let people know?
as far as i can tell ID#2: now belongs to the vendor/bazzar issue. what gives?

It has been two odd weeks now since the discussion forum has been closed now and there is still nothing in the 'In concept' forum where pro-active ideas for improvement should be generated.

Great start. Fantastic new and improved communication skills. Nobody could even be bothered throwing in a token topic to insult those of us who identified the change for what it was, silencing the mass of unhappy customers.

Yesterday I pulled up all my harvesters, put 3 months worth of maintenance on my house and put my friends on the administration list so they could plunder whatever they wanted. I came very close to cancelling at that point, but held off for now, I have played far less since the forum closed than I did before. It may sound stupid but I depended on that forum for providing alot of entertainment that IS lacking in the game.

I haven't cancelled yet, but it is only a matter of time now, I will sit in the game bored stupid and find nothing of interest on the forums then it will just happen. Boom goes another customer. No other forum comes close to the old discussion forum.

Very disappointed.
