What would the logic be behind having the armor only be equippable by Bounty Hunters?

I mean the game world logic. Weapon certs are illogical enough (I think it'd be MUCH better if you suffered huge accuracy and speed penalties instead of damage penalties - how much sense does it make for a flame thrower to do 1 point of damage, no matter how inept the user is?), but now we have magic armor that can magically only be worn by someone with a certain skill box?

And yes, I know other games have level/class restrictions on equipping certain items. I also think it's really dumb.

I'm all in favor of some sort of game world reason why BHs favor this armor (perhaps it has special complex hardware in it that gives bonuses to BHs because they have the specialized knowledge needed to operate it), but just saying "you can't equip that" is kinda silly. It's a HELMET. I can't figure out how to put it on my head?

Surely you aren't comparing a Death Star to BH armor.

There's a very good game-world reason for not everyone to be able to have a Death Star: ownership of something as massive as a Death Star is simply beyond the reach of any player character. If a player were somehow able to obtain a Death Star, and get thousands of trained people to crew it for them, it'd make perfect sense for them to be able to use it to blow up planets. But a player is never going to be able to obtain an operational Death Star.

Now, conversely, BH/Mandalorian armor is something that any player character could potentially obtain, even if only by paying a BH an exorbitant price. If the character is able to obtain it, why shouldn't they be able to wear it?

Again, I'm absolutely in favor of providing some LOGICAL reason for only Bounty Hunters wearing it. Perhaps if a non-BH puts on Mandalorian armor, the Bounty Hunter's Union gets pissed and a BH TEF is put on that player, with the first BH to kill them getting to loot the armor off their inert carcass. Perhaps the jetpack is only operable by a BH, so any non-BH trying to use it will crash and burn. Perhaps Bounty Hunter armor gives huge bonuses to BH skills, but is inferior to conventional armor in other ways, so that a BH gets nice benefits from wearing it (more than enough to compensate for its other inferiorities - maybe some nice defense mods?) but for anyone else it's a hindrance.

But please don't do the thing of I can't put this hat on because I'm not level13 yet.

I realize it's a long stretch, but it is very helpful to look at both extremes of something to find a suitable median.

This is being debated in every thread on In-Testing and TC boards. How about taking this argument where it should be: The Death Watch thread in the In-Development forum.

I didn't start the fire, but I did invite it, and I'm trying to fight it.

I agree..they should make it give bonus to Bh skills so other players wont want to wear it anyway

kind of like the new clothing items that give skill bonuses to specific professions like the weaponsmiths toolbelt
