there already was a character limit ... 8000 characters roughly. and there was already a limit on the number of emails a person could have as well.
Keeping larger email sizes and solving the problem through other means such as local storage with in game access isn't asking for a lot either. Sure ... its more coding to get it working ... but it will actually help solve database size issues as millions of emails would no longer be in their databases but actually on peoples hardrives.
Their solution just means more email traffic stored on their databases as large emails get split into two emails ... not what you would consider a good solution.
Speaking as a software developer in real life ... I would gone for local storage with IG access.

What he said. The emails should ALWAYS have been stored localy just as all the graphics/sounds/effects etc. All the chat windows could/should have been local as well. Now there are a number of reasons to have chat kept at the server level due to client thruput issues but the email could/should have downloaded from the beginning. People are used to having to wait a little for the download and the /mailsave command would not be needed.

I don't blame them for wanting to free up some resources for other things.

Exactly why I went with local storage for my users. then when they whined about lack of space I simply explained to them they could delete stuff from their own hard drive and get more space for their emails. Much fewer headaches for me and happier users because they had more of a feeling that they controlled their space.

I am starting to think every update is aimed at chasing more and more of us off so they never have to actually make JTLS

Can this bug get looked at?

It's actually a pub 10 bug but it wold get lost there.

With the new force system master docs that have entered the village get an error with this:

/heal self

the prompt you get is "You have insufficient ability to Heal Action Self" - a jedi healing function i presume.

I have used this as a macro forever and hot keyed it to the + on the numpad and now i've reverted back to putting the stim-e's in the toolbar, not really the way I want to heal myself, but currently the only way...

Actually, I'm being facetious in the subject line. I'm not sure how much clearer people could have said, "the drop shadows in the text/chat boxes are killing my eyes; please get rid of them or at the very least give us the option to turn them off." So I am quite mystified as to how that seems to have been perceived as, "Actually, just change the font typeface, and make it a little bigger, and that will distract us from drop shadows." All you've managed to do is to make scrolling up to read important things in the face of spam more difficult, and not alleviating the eyestrain problem. I don't care if you make the font 72 point Zapf Chancery - the drop shadows do not work on flowed text, which is why you don't see it used in print publications, Web sites, other games, etc. If you don't believe me, grab an opthamologist out of the phone book and pay him $500 to drive over and say the same thing. Or, for an even cheaper ($73.00) authority, pick up a copy of Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human-Computer Interaction (Schneiderman, Plaisant, editors).

P.S. I was also disappointed to see the color scheme altered on these boards as well, as white on black is also a human factors no-no.

The result is smaller records ... but more records. Working as a software developer it strikes me as a bad decision, but I can see why they've done it. Reducing the cap on the number of emails would have been very bad for busy merchants and yet again a bad decision. As it stands ... downloading the mails to the client with in game access to them would have been the best idea and not exactly hard to implement.

I think they went for the quick fix ... not the good fix.

Get in line.

You could wait a full YEAR with things promised such as profession-specific quests. Or almost next to never...

Problem: Every problem reported on the Update, and Publish 10....has either been an "oops" statement...or an "not assigned statement"...How about this for a solution....ASSIGN THEM.

Problem: Alleged Combat Revamp "Documents" slated to be released 2 WEEKS ago, have still not been made public. Solution: Get off your ass and do your job.

Ok, this is me, sucking it in...The patcher works fine now, I keep forgetting that Shadowbane was far more buggy than this, and that it is just a game. I too love this game and want to see it succeed. I just have to remember there are 1k others posting things they would like changed and it must be a cacophony of noise to the Dev team. So, I apologize for being this ....well, tactless, and rude.If you feel the need Tiggs, Pounce away.

LOL! Well they will still whine when they delete something that they needed and you didn't back up their PC. Its a pain in a large enviroment to back up every PC.If they stored all the email locally on people's PC people willstart complaining that they lost an email when their computer diedand they have to reinstall. Hey its important to someone it seems, so complain away.....don't let mestop you.
