The idea that we can only do theme parks for the Hutt is rather disheartening. It's rather demeaning if you happened to get negative Jabba Faction in the course of doing existing NPC missions that the only theme park for entertainers is the big slug.

How about this. A pleasure planet.

Nono. Hear me out.

The idea of mini-games and opulent clubs and places to get entertained would be pretty darn interesting. Say, a planet where any time you watch or listen an entertainer, you got the effects of a mind buff due to the general party atmosphere. The entertainer providing the entertainment would get a boosted entertainment XP reward as if they were buffing for performing there. If you want to continue the practice of letting entertainers dance AFK whilst grinding their professions, why not set up a planet where it's going to be more beneficial for them to do that, so as to clear out the clubs of the dancing dead in the major cities.

My suggestion, along with an admirably suited new player race would be Zeltros and the Zeltrons. This planet was introduced as a pleasure planet way back in the Marvel Comics run of Star Wars in its latter half. The planet, storylines, and characters involved with it were so successful that the planet and race is STILL included in the latest iterations of the dice and paper Roleplaying Game.

Zeltrons as a race might get racial bonuses and perks that could be used to entertain more effectively. Essentially, they're all pheremonally active and slightly empathic. So as a matter of necessity, the planet is in a constant state of party so as to keep bad moods and negativity from spreading like a virus.

Creating an entertainer specific planet and race would be just a matter of designing the planet really. And it would certainly give us an alternative to our only theme park being entertainment for the more despicable crime-lords in the Galaxy. (Especially compared to the NUMEROUS theme parks for the other professions to the ONE Entertainer park) The race is just a pallette shifted humanoid, with skin tones that range from pink to dark maroon, and light indigo to dark purple hair. If you'd like more information on Zeltros and Zeltrons, have a look at:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/sw20040105zeltros

How about giving Entertainers THE planet to go to for all your entertainment needs? I could see big hunting parties or player associations or factions coming out to Zeltros before hitting DeathWatch, or Some Major Hunting Expedition or the Corvette or some other really hard thing they need to be buffed for. I'd certainly think an entertainer specific planet and race would give us some validity and respectability beyond those folks that dance for crimelords. Instead of the vilest den of iniquity in the galaxy, we get the galactic equivalent of new york, hollywood, las vegas, Rio, and the french riviera all rolled into one?

Think about it, won't you? At least I'm not thinking small.

ok this is what I want to see done peroid.

1. Advertising for entertainers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why not allow players to advertise for entertainment groups? Example, I'm running a hunt. I want a small group of entertainers to perform at an outpost for a couple hours. I'll pay 10K or so per hour...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually this is kind of off track but the mention of managers/agents led to a thought that these would be great to earn at higher lvls where they would function like a vendor only instead of seeling items, they could be a way to arrange for a dancer/musician at a future date. Possibly a pet in nature who could act as a appointment book and be allowed to be parked overnight in a house or cantina.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Being able to find a Master to buff when need be-- somehow I'm not sure how but if you'd like I'll take the time and think something up. Because I don't know about you but I--being a master dancer-- hate it when I can't find anyone at all (!) to buff my mind.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Entertainers not being able to buff themselves = Dumb

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buff ourselves

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Better mission payout. I liked the idea about sending people to a few picked out cantinas a day. Bigger crowds more fun!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

revamp of current entertainer missions

better payouts (a standard tip this days is usuallyno less than 1000 credits)and i could never figure out how to even do one! there were no instructions, not set time limit etc. i was standing around, running out of action, having to start again after a while and nothing... no one could tell me how it was done, either.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Entertainer missions that encourage grouping.

  • dispense a time-limited non-tradable travel ticket to an entertainer
  • entertainer goes to cantina
  • entertainer must group with one other entertainer to complete mission
  • ideally, at a certain time missions would all lead to the same cities (i.e. today missions will lead to Kor Vella, Mos Entha, and Kadaara only)
  • you would never be able to take a mission in the city where you already are
  • considerable payout
  • possibly specific instructions (i.e. dance basic 2 or use the fanfar)
  • missions would be slightly longer (i.e. dance/play music for 20 mins) because of travel time
  • make some sort of announcement so players know where the entertainer hot-spots are (maybe posted on all cantina doors every day, as a "sign" that can be read)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. I would like to be able to perform at Jabba's palace without having to kill something myself lol.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the idea of Entertainers (Dancers and Musicians) to be able to play @ Jabba's Palace. But before they can they must complete a couple of missions for Jabba. I know most Entertainers don't have combat skills but this allows for great group interaction, (ie, The entertainers must group with combat professions to complete these tasks).

Maybe they have a certain minimum amount of time to play or even a schedule to keep up with. And if they don't then they get fed to the Rancor

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. The spy missions sound awesome to me. Hear like some Star Wars character plotting something-- and you have to report back! That would be awesome! Having to choose what to say specifically and if you screw up ... they fight you! If the entertainer has no combat skills then it's a 90/10 chance that they escape and return to the mission giver! If they do they they fight them off and have a 50/50 chance of escape-- unless of course they kill everyone lol. When they report back without anyone dead and they messed up they get nothing but faction lost bit and a kick to the rear with a holding on how long they can work again. If they kill everyone a bit of faction is rewarded but not much and they are given another mission. If they succeed without killing anyone they get faction and money reward along with another exciting mission!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

factional entertainer missions

as someone mentioned before, you go and entertain somewhere pertaining to the GCW, either a base or npcs in the field and gain both cash and faction points. i like the idea of learning information for your faction as well, as a spy. someone brought that up, it might be fun

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to build on one suggestion someone wrote about entertainer/spying missions.

The entertainer gets a mission to play wherever, it doesn't have to be purely faction based, it could be corporate espionage or criminal information in nature. They are hired and told to play in a certain area and wait for a certain NPC or group of NPC's to come in.
Once these NPC's come in the entertainer must watch their conversation closely. The NPC's discuss things at random for however long they have to, one leaves and another shows up and they talk some more.
The entertainer must be on the look out for a specific piece of information, once they think they found it they return to the person that gave them the mission who in turn asks them a set of questions that the PC must respond to correctly in order to get paid.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok...don't flame me for jumping into the Entertainer issue, but as a Master Bounty Hunter, I think it would be great if Dancers/Musicians could play some type of Spy Informant. This would be something that would be an great addition to a PC Bounty system (if one is ever created). Somehow, the Entertainer could be integrated into the BH cash payout reward if the entertainer has somehow helped the BH run down their Mark.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. I like the thought of image deisgner taken out of entertainer-- and having singer put in... can't say it as well as it was put here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since "Image Designers" are not really Entertainers, and there is a missing entertainer (Singer). How about replacing ID with "Singer" and making a new starting profession "Visual Artist".

Visual Artist - Like the other starting professions it should have 4 trees, Hairstyling Customization, Wildlife and landscape Studies, Painting, and Sculpting.

The advance professions that this new starting profession will lead to are;

  • Image Designer
  • Requirements: Visual Artist 4-0-0-0

  • Painter and/or Photographer
  • Requirements: Visual Artist 0-4-4-0

  • Sculptor
  • Requirements: Visual Artist 0-4-0-4

  • Taxidermist
  • Requirements: Visual Artist 0-4-0-0 and Scout 0-0-4-0

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes I did go through almost every post to find some other posting support what I'd like to see. /shrug. I did see one about Cantina owners and Majors advertising for gigs but I couldn't find it again to post it. It was hitting on the advertising part very well I wish I could find it again if anyone sees it please bump that one post? And if you agree let 'em know!

If nothing else, I think missions should pay based on an entertainer's experience. It's ridiculous that a Master Dancer gets paid exactly the same as a novice for the same gig. Yo Yo Ma wouldn't take a gig paying only$150 so I don't know why a SWGMaster Musician should be expected to.

Musician/ entertainer vision doc and development guide.

Our forum has come congested with complaints, and rightly so as we have been slighted by the devs and the playerbase. This doc is hopefully a method to give hope to us as well as the devs a way to give us what we want while remaining in their time frame. If you are posting feedback great! If your posting additions please try to keep them in line with the idea behind this or create a new post. The idea is to improve the game, our experiance and to do so in a realistic method that has the best chance of working.

GOALS:

1. To make entertaining a fun and viable play style all the time and remove the current frustraition while meeting the different needs of players.

2. To show that the basic improvments we need do not require a revamp or a casio quest but mearly a little consistant attention.

3. To bring us back to the happy go lucky type's we once were through the hope that our idea's can get listened to and remind us that mainly what we need is the basics.

ASSUMPTIONS:

It is my thoughts that this profession does not need a revamp but mearly consideration for its role in the game. While great we don't need a lot of the other flash that other professions do. What we do need is attention. When the game went live there was very little that we discussed as changes to the profession. Mainly we wanted new songs and some wanted more control over a viable income stream. The game has progress and in the end, these two still shine through. I see two main other area's that have developed as priorities as well. Band functions and *occasional content*. I think a "Hutt casino" every 1.5yrs is ok if its in depth enough but would prefer smaller aditions that are more feasable with dev resources and more often. Here is how I see that playing out...

IDEA:

Don't Spend forever on one little thing for us. Just consider us in your other revamps. For instance your going to redo smuggler. Why not include a section of that revamp that has us as information brokers to help the smugglers and BH's, artisans and /gasp the RP crowd. Its small but could add great content for us that would keep us busy for a long time to come. It would however also improve the gameplay for many on the server TONS's in fact.

If required, shelve the Hutt Casino to gain time to do the following.

1.Once per quarter add 2 new songs/ dances/ instraments (or unique sounds). From time to time instead of a new song or dance add something such as crafting effects. Be it coloring our instraments or a new effect or holo emote. Or better band control or 1 bug fix. Just add a tiny amount of depth to the professions. This would keep things fresh for us.
2. Time permiting add something bigger like the hutt casino or whatever, but with the smaller additions, we really wouldn't need this so much.
3. We really need you to return our cantina's to us. While I understand some players want afk buff bots ect you need to make room for both types of players. Currently you lump to arch enemies together which does nothing but dishearten us. There are billions of suggestions out there... Take whichever is easiest for you to do and do it. Maybe just seperate the groups ie in a theater X is required which means atk and in cantina its not ect.

WHAT WE NEED:
What we need devs is simple just time to time additions to us. We are a creative group and I for one would say that if need be lump us with politicians and rp/ events people. What else? just a little attention letting us know you have not forgoten about us and not slighting us on questions not from corespondants or not understading our questions before responding.

IN SUMMARY:
Don't think "oh god someday we need to work on the ents" Instead say how can i take what im working on and include as many professions as possible while improving the overall game (this apply's to all profs obviously not just us)

THANKS:
Thanks for all your hard work in even creating such a game for us and doing a ground breaking profession. Please now lets make it all it can be. Further Devs I hope that you read this respond to it so we can improve/ refine it and make it both useful and something you would act upon.

Cheers,

*warning: rambling thoughts within*

I love the idea of PC's hiring Entertainers, like at a Mission Terminal (Hiring Terminal?)... especially on hunts. Gives us a lil taste of the blaster fire and get's us out of those darned cantinas (that music will drive ya mad)!

I've gone on a few hunts as a compliment/assistant to the Doctor professions, kind of like a nurse. *laughs* It works out really nice! I hang in the camp, and when players come in from the hunt/battleI can heal their mind, giving the Doctor a lil break. The problem is FINDING a hunting party to accompany!

I think the "Hiring Terminal" would be a good idea for any profession. But especially for those that base their main income on tips/beginning characters.

I also am an Image Designer/Tailor, instead of camping out at a starport to catch clients, I can go out and do my surveying, etc. and get a /tell or email that someone wishes to purchase my services at such-and-such waypoint and to be there in x-amount of minutes (obviously making the search regional or searchable by distance).

Just like on a Mission Terminal, there's a price for that *enter character profession here* to show up (stimulating that faltering galactic economy). Here's an example and please pardon any obvious gaps in the "system":

- Killgore' wants to get buffed, but everyone in the Coronet cantina is AFK or busy.

- He goes to a Hiring Terminal. Pulls up a menu that resembles the Bazaar interface.

-He filters his planet/city. He chooses Corellia/ Coronet.

-He chooses a character profession, in this instance a Dancer.

- He chooses a location, a cantina, (since this is where Dancers can buff).

-Since he's meeting his hunting party on the outskirts of Coronet he doesn't want to go all the way into the lag infested Coronet Cantina, he chooses a Player City that has a cantina. Say hechooses The Kryat Room in Toral. *shameless plug*

-The price to hire the closest Dancer is 100 credits "finders fee" and 1000 credits for the dancers "payroll".

- He sees that Miz'ri is the closest dancer in this area and selects "Hire".

- Miz'rireceives a /tell, email, on-screen notificationnotifying her that Killgore' wants to hire her to buff.

- Miz'ri now can accept or decline the offer. She accepts and a waypointis set to The Kryat Room to meet Killgore'.

- Killgore' is notified that the job has been accepted and the waypoint is set to the location.

- The 1100 credits it took to hire Miz'ri is now paid to the Galactic Employment Agency.

- A waypoint is set for both parties.

- Miz'ri and Killgore meet.

Obviously theres a serious gap (exploit)in the Payment Structure... but something to the above effect could be possible?

Maybe getting "Hired Experiance" and that being able to be viewed by PC's on your character. Showing that you areexperianced in those fields you are hired for, like a specialist.

*end of rambling thoughts*

I've been an Entertainer since day one, I love the PC interaction, but as soon as the hologrind came about it became VERY boring. Hence, with the lack of interaction that has ensued (plus the info I learned at Fan Fare), I've picked up Pistoleer. *laughs*

I am interested in the idea of a terminal that players use to request entertainers at a specific location. The terminal would calculate the most highly requested locations, be it player city or static city, and issue quests there.

- Rebel entertainers could get quests to Rebel cities.

- Imperial entertainers could get quests to Imperial cities

- Neutral can/could go anywhere.

Why not have the system working dynamically in "real-time" so the players who need the entertainters the most can get access to them and the entertainters can hang out in locations where there is player activitiy, people to interact with and socialize, and since the market dictated the entertainers to be there, people would also be willing to pay for them making them a viable profession from a credit/money perspective

I bet if the system worked like this or similar in nature and functionality, we could expect the following result:

- GCW active cities would request entertainers during vuln times and days of big attacks

- "HOT SPOTS" like dantooine mining outpost were people take lucritive Janta missions would have entertainers

- Taversn near popular places like "Geo Lab" and "The Bunker" would get entertainers

- Entertainers would enjoy traveling to different locations knowing they are not ghost towns

-"Carebears" who like to socialize and role play would actually know where to go to "hang" with people

There is only one way to make this worth while, to make people want to do it more often.
That way is REAL gigs. There are huge halls for people, why not allow a music composition option, where you make your own music, and let these people play these things in these huge halls? Entry fees to see it, which go directly to and are divided equally among the band, money extra money from the to-be-implemented agents and such. It'd be a huge hit, and you never know, these people might become server-wide superstars. It sounds like a brilliant idea to me, and it could also deliver huge day-long buffs on every stat to people who listen. It'd also be a good idea to remove the "listen" option if this was done, and have the music playing to everybody within range, regardless. When the player enters the hall, have the game be set to the maximum amount of channels that the card can handle, and have the band use one instrument per channel in the composition screen. I can see it being a huge hit, even if you don't.

ok a snipit from the musician vision doc in the musician threads... basicly saying use the systems you already have in game:

the idea is instituting the jedi council system into entertainers via fame. The "superstars" would get a little extra abilities like buffing anywhere they wish. maybe buffing themselfs.

Further tiagra's idea of playing at the starport but having the starport athorities frown on it thus try to fine you, kickyou out,ect ect ect would be a neat one. For this use the imp. crackdown code with ST scans but have it search for skill animating entertainers.

the point of this doc developers is this... use the code you already have, so you don't spend lots of time dev. us. Tweak it for entertainer related and BOOM we all win! You don't spend lots of time on us yet we get TONS of content added.

Hmm..

Ok, some Ideas, possably not popular....

Firstly, remove flourishes from Macros. Or, if someone is AFK then the flourishes don't work. If you want to earn that extra Xp by performing them, then You have to perform them... not your macro.

Trends. Fashion is a fickle thing. Randomly determine that day what styles are popular at which cantinas. Players with limited repetoires will have to travel to find the good gigs whereas someone with a wide range of dances/songs etc. will be able to adapt to more venues.

Increase the number of styles and dances by A LOT. Have styles, flourishes and songs.

the effectiveness of a musicians ability should decrease if they do not play a large enough variety of songs. After all, who want's to hear the same thing over and over again? If someone is AFK, playing the same song and same set of flourishes then their xp returns and buffing ability will decrease over time.

Dancers will need to perform different dances in their set, or else people will get bored and their healing/buffing will drop...

Dear Fellow SWG players, and Game Masters.

I was thinking about the entertaining professions when i actually found out at my brothers computer that it ain't hard to lvl up these professions, just make a macro and your master in very few time, one of my suggestions is that you disable the commands for the entertain macro's so it will be harder, and, the other suggestion is, give Dancers moves per lvl and not full dances so they can make dances theirself, that is what Choreographer means right? that'd be cool, and the dances should be more extreme, maybe a bit like the brazillian martial art dance Capoeira it is a mix between fighting and dancing maybe you can combine these two and make some sort of acrobat, please let me know, Yamo

In addition to this maybe a the PCs that have come to watch would get an entertainer buff after the show. The longer they have stayed to watch the longer/better the buff will be. There should also be some sort of entrance fee. I could also see a new type of leadership role that only master musicians/dancers might have, and that is an organization role, where as the group leader they would be able to organize these large events. They could delegate out to the cast and crew what their assignments for the event would be.

Also this could add other types of jobs to this genre as well (stage hands, lighting and effects, etc.). There are tons of possibilities here. Also, being able to control the overall lighting in the theater to help the event focus on the stage would be ideal. Artisans would need to be hired to build effects droids, supply them with batteries, etc. Of course what entertainer wouldn't be in need of a doctor who can action buff during the show as well. Who wants to see half the group sitting on the floor resting anyway?

Some other things to point our here would be that you would need some sort of control over who can enter the stage area. You really wouldn't want someone just runnnig up on stage to screw up the show, so some sort of security (usher) roles could also be allowed during the event. This would allow for some fighting characters to be hired by the entertainer group to "keep the peace" during the show. Anyone attempting to disrupt the show could be thrown out of the theater for the duration of the show. Since the theater has a limited number of seats there would need to be a way to stop others from entering after the theater is full. Only a set number of tickets could be sold based on seating. So only the cast, crew, and ticket purchasers could possibly enter the theater. The hired ushers would have to deal with anyone trying to sneak into the show without paying.

I have another idea for cantinas as well to make them a bit more interesting. Why not let the cantina HIRE a group of entertainers to play in the cantina. You could go to an NPC in the cantina and be added to the cantinas "band" (sort of like being a member of a planet's bank). You would get some sort of bonus to being in that group. Also, if a PC came in to watch/listen they would get a bonus for watching/listening to the cantina's band members over someone who is just dancing/playing on there own. Again a Master Dancer/Musician would be able to "organize" the group in ways to make the show in the cantina more interesting.

It always makes me sort of sad that any time there's discussion of Entertainer Quests from official-type folks, it's "Entertainer, Dancer, and Musician". Image Designer is put in Entertainer too!

I really try to converse and amuse and show options to folks and talk about where they're from and where they're going when I'm working on them. It doesn't heal their battle fatigue, sure, but it's social interaction in an MMORPG. To me that's entertaining.

Anyway, I'm going to suggest ID mission ideas in here, too, so there.

#1 - Escaping the heat. Faction mission or non-factioned, an NPC in hiding is wanted by the Hutts, has an Imperial bounty on him, whatever. The PC must find the NPC and rearrange his or her features to be sufficiently different from his current features, possibly even with the requisite that he has to remain subtle -- ie, no taking someone who looks like Luke and giving him an orange mohawk and green beard. Loud will only look like a disguise. It's up to the ID to sort it out. Albino Wookiees are not subtle.

#2 - Infiltration. An NPC needs to sneak into an opposing faction group and needs the help of someone to disguise them. Unlike the previous mission, a screen shot would be given of what the NPC needs to ultimately look like and the ID would have to match it up, keeping in mind there's 200 Zabrak horn colors and 100 shades of brown for Wookiees, this could be decently challenging.

#3 - No Really, We're Cousins.I remember reading a while back some ID who'd really enjoyed taking two different species and trying to make them look like they were related to one another. Maybe some NPC has a photo of some hawthuman and she wants to look just like her ... except she's Zabrak. (How often have we ID's gotten something like that?)

#3 might be impossible because of the ways different species' features are rated, but I figure it can't hurt to suggest.

From discussions on IDing Vendors, I remember reading that the space needed to utterly customize vendors would bork the databases or something similar, but I'm wondering if these are actual mission spawns full range of changes could be gotten away with. If not, and actually graphically changing even temporaryNPC's would give a server a seizure, maybe you could offer a range of templates instead, and you have to pick a disguise based on the nature of the threat? If you have to pass as a senior human senator, you would have to pick one of the disguises that sets the age bar relatively high, and one that doesn't look too wide-eyed.
