Thread: ID#2: Two Changes to Bazaars and Vendors
I could live with that.. try selling out of 150 items 3 times a day!
People don't pay for this game to have to restock their vendors every 3 hrs. Most people work, most sleep, some eat and some have families. People play the game to have fun but they can't jump on their computer every 2 hours to restock their vendor, nor even IF they have the time to do that, do they want to.
The only reason I still play this game, is I have fun making meds and selling them (and the people I have met.. face it the CONTENT in this game wouldn't keep a monkey interested for more than a week). As a consciencous vendor, I try to keep my vendor stocked so that i don't LOSE customers when they come to an empty vendor and never come back.
By making it difficult for us to fully stock our vendors once a day or 2 days, you are going to ruin a lot of merchants.
I cant say I like either the idea of raising the cost or the 150 Vendor item limit.
I agree a vendor item limit would be a good idea but a higher limit should be placed. If you take into account professions such as armorsmiths may have to take up 9 slots for a single set of armor your limiting the number of full sets they would be able to sell. A way around this would be to introduce the full sets of armour idea as posted on the Armoursmith Profession forum.
As for raising the cap on the bizaar I think this would seriously hurt normal crafting vendors. At the moment its far easier to sell items on the bizaar for lower prices and get constant sales then it is to place on your own vendor for more but sell less. If you raise the max cap to 6k this will load the bizaar even more with more specialised crafting items, thus taking away business from shop owners. Ive seem ppl selling houses, pets, droids, and **edit** even cars for the 6k mark (although the last was only once) so all these items will start to appear on the bizaar where at least at the moment only a complete nut would sell them there.
Just my 2 pence worth
TH and other SOE people: please read Perilous's post on the Merchant board. It's a remarkable post and very true.

I don't think the 6k limit rasie on the bazaar is bad in fact would prob be a good change for many professions who have items that fall betweent the 3k - 6k price.
The 150 item limit is to me a BAD idea. Our houses are already limited to 150 items for mediums and 250 for larges (but who can spare 6 lots at a time for the 250.
could you give us examples of the monolopy's your trying to break up? I don't really see what i'd call a monolopy in the game.. I do se dedicated crafters who have popular vendors because they keep thier vendors stocked and have reasonable prices for items.
Right now i'm running 5 vendors. I have 1 on coronet selling powerups. I try to keep my stock level there around 200 crates or more because people come to my vendor there because they know I keep the powerups in it they want. I like to keep about 50 crates of each of the types that are most pouplar that way people have a good chance of finding what they want.
lowering the vendor limit will mean that I cannot keep my stock where i want it and will have to spend more time doing administrative chores (i.e. running to stock the vendor more often) rather than enjoying other parts of the game while also enjoying my crafting / merchanting.
I also run a Furniture vendor on tatooine. I keep a lot of stock on the vendor around 300 to 400 items. because there are over 50 furniture items. People come to my vendor because they know they will find a large selection of items and likely to find what they need with a limit cap of 150 i couldn't even keep 3 of each item on the vendor. go figure..
Being a full time crafter merchant is quite a bit of work why make it more difficult than it already is by giveing up more "Make work"
INSTEAD maybe your programers should look at ways to fix the problems in your database rather than saying "Well if we just limit everyone in the game some more we can ignore this problem and its still "good enough" to get by and just tell everyone its to level the playing field for all crafters."
what i think anyways
To quote
"... and actually hurts sales in many instances because most players don't "drill down" through all of the vendor pages to find items."
This is true but only because the vendor (and bazaar) listing window is so inadequate from a GUI and functionality point of view. Proper full list sorting (instead of the strange paginated rubbish currently implemented) would solve many of these issues andproper filtering (especially on quantities to get rid of all the 1 mineral for 3000cpu rubbish) would probably solve all of them.
SWG is a very complex games with many subtlities but the user interface is pretty weak (like so many games:/).
Not that anyone is going to read this far but here aremy thoughts.
If you're going ot raise the bazaar limit why not raise it to 50k that way actual GOOD stuff can be sold on it. Right now the bazaar is basically a way for me to get rid of crap only people who don't know what they're buying buy. Many catagories on the bazaarare pointless because the cost of making the item is more than the price cap even at 6k.
You could free up data space just by getting rid of the unused and pointless catagories.
And vendor cap has got to be the absolute dumbest thing I've ever heard of. In a game where EVERY ITEM is player made to limit the ability to distribute those items has got to be some penny pinchers idea of a good idea. "If we just cut off our left foot we only have to buy one shoe therefor saving *types on calculator* 20k over a complete lifetime." Duh! only a weasle would come up with this strategy.
here's a thought BUY MORE DATA SPACE!!!!!!!
Here's a better thought GET RID OF POINTLESS NPC ITEMS!!!!!
no one uses them but people hang on to them thinking that they might do something in the future. How many broken binoculars or survival knives do we actually need? answer: NONE.
NPC's should give money only and the itemsNEEDED for the missions and Cries of Alderaan. Otherwise dump them. Who needs a fishing pole with no uses as a reward? NO ONE!
get rid of the crap keep the good. NPC items = CRAP. vendor Unlimited = GOOD.
THanks for your time. ![]()
My opinions,
Bazaar cap raised: Good.
Vendor cap: VERY BAD IDEA!
If you put a cap on the vendors, prices will skyrocket, when prices skyrocket, ppl will NOT want to pay for the goods (seeing as how most stuff is way overpriced already). I already have 300 items easily on my vendor. Now if it was a cap at like 600, then it wouldn't be so bad of an idea cause prices would go that high. But 150 items? Then lets say in real life, that Microsoft can only sell 150 items at a time, how far do you think they would actually go? They would go bankrupt within a couple of weeks.
Bad idea, I spend MY ENTIRE TIME DEDICATED TO RUNNING A WEAPONSMITHING BUISNESS. We have 3 Shops. We use all our vendors, we also have 3 Master Merchants in our conglomerate yet , now your going to limit item amounts on vendors!!! Thanks alot. Now what do I do about my 3k -5k inventory of guns forsale?
I love you just decide to nerf the crap outta stuff , yet dont consider very **edit** class that uses vendors. And with the impending Weaponsmith changes, there will be even more types of guns to produce. Frankly Im getting really tired of you people changing the game around every month because you dont want to spend money upgrading your hardware.
I dont agree with this change as its stated. Vendor caps should at least be 500 items per vendor peroid. here is an idea, take out the bazzar. Its totally worthless anyways.
I sell sell over 300 items in a few hours, everytime i stock. I am a CASUAL player i think 2-3 hours 5 days a week.
I would litterally lose all my business if i couldt extremely over stock.
I hate the idea of an increased bazaar cap.
I never use the bazaar to sell my clothes but this will force me into selling my items on the bazaar just to compete. It hurts tailors to have the higher cap, and I forsee many tailors closing down their little shops. It's nice to run your own shop and stock the items and colors that sell well.
I foresee a huge LAG increase in major cities if the cap goes up to 6000 credits because no one will need to shop at player vendors (at least for clothes).
Why not implement this: resources can be sold for 6000 credits but other non-resource items should still cap at 3000. That way tailors wouldn't be forced out of buisness, but yet resource sellers would be able to consolidate their sales into larges bunches.
I do not want to be forced into using the bazaar as my sole income... I shudder at the thought.

/agree with Chiana here.
If you nerf vendors to 150 items I will be dropping tailor, I am in UK so need to keep my vendors stocked with lots of items for my customers whose prime time is my sleep time.
It is nothing for me to sell over 100 items of clothing while sleeping, I am not prepared to spend my online time just getting /tell every second with orders and all my prime time sales elsewhere.
This proposed vendor change will hurt all tailors who run a good shop. Do you know how many people send me messages that they are so impressed with the quality and stock on my vendor and how they have searched around to find such quality ?
Leave vendors alone, I am getting so annoyed with this game - how the hell can I set my profession and skills when you keep moving the rules on me ?
And by the way, what do you propose I do with my 1000s of stock ?

I agree with raising the price cap on bazaar terminal sales
I STRONGLY DISAGREE with capping Vendors. Why? It makes more work for Merchants, and will cause even more vendors to be empty more often. I don't see what the problem with no cap is, most shops I have been to on my server are either empty or have very few items. Those that are fully stocked offer an irresistable shopping selection. If anything players with vendors should be encouraged to use them more, not less. Please don't nerf vendors!
