Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (6-28-04)
Welcome to the weekly In-Concept Open Discussion thread.
Last Week's Discussion Thread:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=dev_archive&message.id=52720
This thread is so community members can share their ideas about what they would like to see in the game that is not currently being planned. Game development issues that are being planned will have their own In-Concept “focus threads” listed in the In-Concept forum.
I noticed a lot of new posters and a lot of great new ideas posted in the last couple of weeks. Thanks very much. Don't forget, we archive these threads for reference in the Dev Cycle Archive.

TH, do you have update notes for the patch early yesterday morning?
thanks
LeBob - That was just part of the trickle patch...
No, we were referring to a post by Vass yesterday, about the TS's going down for an update. There were never any notes published. Provided it was a Sunday, but it dont look like anything got updated today as well, and this mess is suppose to go live tomarrow by last accounts.

Will be brought down sometime in the next hour and will be back up about an hour after that.

Bounty Hunters
You love us, you hate us. Who knows. We have an odd place in the game being both the most expensive SP prof and one of the weakest profs with "low defense and low damage".
I dont want to get started on the jedi mess with this post, so I'll stick to BH.
I would very much like to see some content added for the BH's (and even extending possible to other merc profs as well). From what I observed in the movies, and even EU, the BH's were as much Mercenaries as they were Bounty Hunters. By that I mean, they would sometimes be hired guns (mercs), hired assassins and hired Bounty Hunters. For example:
- Zam Wessell - Ep.2 - clearly a hired assassin to take out Padme
- Jango Fett - Ep.2 - Bounty Hunter hired to eliminate Padme. Also had services retained by Dooku as a hired gun.
- Boba Fett - Ep.5 - A Bounty Hunter hired by both Jabba and Darth Vader to track and capture Han Solo.
- Boba Fett - Ep.6 - A mercenary hanging around in Jabba's entrourage.
...and the list can go on for the EU.
My point is that it seems limiting to have the BH community have to choose either Imp or Reb. I would like to see a system that encorporates what it means to be a BH in the Star Wars universe. We have seen in the SW universe (from han solo, kyle katarn, dash rendar, Fett's, etc.) that "hired" services played a large part for both the empire and rebellion. (If you recall, Han originally performed his services to the Rebellion for an agreed upon fee....of course, we all know how that turned out).
I suggest, beginning with the BH community, a system of TEF's to involve us in the GCW. I'm not suggesting a 3rd faction, but rather having all BH's default as nuetral. There are certain POI's that would have "Mercenary Terminals" such as Jabba's Palace, notable Imp/Reb outposts and bases, etc. A BH would be able to take a "mission" from these terminals that would in effect grant the said BH a overt status TEF for a certain amount of time. The mission would have a payout associated with it that would be fulfilled if the BH was still alive when the TEF timer ran out. Not a large payout so as to make it an exploit possibility, but a little added something. This system would allow neutral BH's to still participate in the GCW while at the same time not pinning them down to a particular faction. Say one could only take Merc missions for a faction so long as they had positive standing with the faction.
Pros:
- BH takes merc mission from specified location. Not accessible and only in limited areas.
- Merc mission lasts for set amount of time (1-2 hours)
- Payout is received after TEF expires, if and only if BH is alive the entire time.
- A BH can only take Merc missions for a faction where they have positive standing.
-This would provide a great outlet for Roleplay as well.
Cons:
- No faction rank attainable in either side of the GCW
- unable to purchase any faction perks from either side of the GCW
- must have positive standing for faction in order to work for them
Please give this idea consideration. I believe it will add great possibilities for content and roleplay. I also believe it shouldn't be particularly constructive with regards to dev time needed to implement.
