how to make the journey through Dancer enjoyable for myself and others at the same time. Dancer will be holo profession # 27 for me so I am not in a panic to finish all 32 (or whichever opens the slot) before publish 10, so can spend a bit extra time to enjoy the voyage.

I have mastered Entertainer a while back, so I understand the basics of how the profession works in regards to experience. I also read Panthu's levelers guide to dance, though I must admit most of it was over my head though I did get the part about turning on the /bandflourish after no longer needing dancing experience, though I have questions on that as well.

So here are the questions:

  • From what I understand good etiquette is to be at the back of the higher level dancers (assuming you are grouped). Is that correct?

  • When I was doing entertainer I had strung along all of the flourishes one after another with a ten sec delay in between and then had removed those that did not seem pleasing to the eye and also changed sequences (instead of numerical order). Does the same thing apply? In other words is it still subjective?

  • If I max out dancing exp., and do not flourish any more but turn on /bandflourish will I still get exp if no one is doing the /bandflourish, how does it work?

  • In the leveler's guide Panthu mentions Master dancers doing lower level dances (while talking about /bandflourish). At higher levels of dancer, does it work like a musician in that one can not participate if people are doing higher level dances? I am a bit confused about that statement as I do not know have much personal knowledge of the profession at this point.

  • If I hear someone greeting a player coming in should I shut up and not greet them or should I still say hello etc., and try to interact?

  • I have medic skills, should I heal others of the group or leave it to medics/docs that might be around?

Thanks for all the replies. BTW, the only time I intend to be AFK is if I have to take to long at the bathroom .

Thank you and welcome It is refreshing to see someone grinding holos come in like this I wish there were more with the same attitude.

To answer your questions:

1) It generally is good etiquette to let the master/highest level dancers have center stage and be up front. But, this is entirely subjective and depends on who you are dancing with. I myself enjoy both being center stage and just being mixed in with all the other dancers. The only hard rule here is if you have to go afk for a little bit, try to do it off to the side/back.

2) The same xp rules apply here, although you will find some of the higher level dances have flourishes that last much longer than 10 seconds. So, while you will flourish and correctly gain xp as effeciently as possible, with a 10 second pause you might not see the next flourish because the previous one is still playing. But yeppers, its still subjective as to what flourishes you do.

3) The reason people say turn /bandflourish off is because only the person who initiates the /bandflourish command gets xp. for the rest of the dancers, the band flourish does not "count" save for the fact that it burns up action. So, when you are working on dance xp, you will want it off. After you get all the dance xp you need, you can turn it on if you choose since you will always get the exact same Entertainment Healing xp flourishing or not. So, it is still your choice if you want it on or not.

4) Unlike musicians, when grouped, anyone can do whatever dance they choose. So you will never have a problem not being able to do your highest dance. In the case of musicians, playing your best instrument *or* your best song gets you maximum xp. In the case of dancers, you always get your best xp by dancing your best dance. So, while you are working on dance xp, do your best dance, what the rest of the group is doing won't impact what dance you can use.

5) Feel free to interact hon, part of this profession is about socializing, so enjoy it and have fun as you choose. The one exception being if you are afk, please don't put "spam" in your macro.

6) Feel free to heal as you like hon, however a lot of times players working on medic xp will be in the cantinas healing the entertainers. Just check before you heal, but if no one is around, everyone will appreciate it.

Hope that helps and good luck and have fun

This is going to be one of those "when you see it you'll know" kind of things. In general, yes. I would say this is polite to other Dancers and those coming in to be healed. The main reason to be behind or off to the side of higher level Dancers (other than respect and letting the patrons get to the better healers easier) is to move out of the way so people can have room to put on a synced routine.

If you are in one of the larger leveling Cantinas in a mostly AFK group with people spread out everwhere, just try to be aware of what's going on and move as needed. I was in a mostly AFK leveling group in Corenet the other day and Silly came out to dance with me. She was doing Popular2, so I switched to Popular2 and she bandfloed. We were on the main floor off to the side a bit and neither one of us got offended that no one was moving out of the way.

Silly did have to try to sabotoge a patrolling Ent bot with no charges left that someone had left behind and I had to move a few times to get away from some AFK drifters, but we were pretty much fine where we were. If it had been a more formal or organised sync dance, then it would have been nice if we'd had more room.

When I was doing entertainer I had strung along all of the flourishes one after another with a ten sec delay in between and then had removed those that did not seem pleasing to the eye and also changed sequences (instead of numerical order). Does the same thing apply? In other words is it still subjective?

Yes. The base dance controls the XP gain, any flourish in the base dance pays out the same. You have a chance at XP every 10 secs.

If I max out dancing exp., and do not flourish any more but turn on /bandflourish will I still get exp if no one is doing the /bandflourish, how does it work?

Yes. EH is granted anytime someone is watching/listening toanyone in your group and needs healedor someone in your group is doing a targeted buff. You don't have to flourish. You could just stand there doing a base dance and it would still come in the same. It just looks nicer if you are flourishing or someone else is bandfloing you. Sometimes EH XP seems to get "hung" and if that happens, doing a flourish will "kick it in" usually.

In the leveler's guide Panthu mentions Master dancers doing lower level dances (while talking about /bandflourish). At higher levels of dancer, does it work like a musician in that one can not participate if people are doing higher level dances? I am a bit confused about that statement as I do not know have much personal knowledge of the profession at this point.

No, it's not like joining a Musician's song. Everybody in the group can be doing a different base dance, it just doesn't look as nice. Once you max out on Dance XP, you can start doing any dance you like for the same EH XP gain. You can do this at anytime, but it will slow down your Dance XP gain if you aren't always performing your highest base dance.

A Master can do any base dance they like because they don't need any Dance XP. If a Novice Ent comes into my Cantina to dance, I invite them to group and "drop down to" Basic (or Rhythmic, but I like Basic better). Sometimes I'll do a little Basic to Rhythmic mixing to show them how, it just depends on the situation. This is pretty much the same for all leveling groups where some people stilneed Dance XP, but not all Masters orUpper Level Dancerswill "drop down" to match the other Dancers.

It used to be a much more common practise and still looks better to me.

If I hear someone greeting a player coming in should I shut up and not greet them or should I still say hello etc., and try to interact?

I'd say you have to play this one by ear. I usually do start talking to the patron, but I wait until after the other Dancer that greeted first has a chance to really "make the pitch." Sometimes a really private conversation starts or it is someone the other Dancer knows. Then I just stay out if that's the case. If it's one of my regulars, I go ahead and say hi anyway, but I don't try to draw them away from the Dancer who greeted first.

The only time this kind of thing bugs me is if I'm buffing and need the cash and another Dancer comes in and starts saying "I'll do it for less" when someone asks what my normal tip is. Of course, I take any and all tips and don't require up front payment, so this doesn't usually become an issue for me. If it's just BF healing, a lot of nice patrons will tip all the Dancers that talked with them still, even though they only watched one.

I have medic skills, should I heal others of the group or leave it to medics/docs that might be around?

I don't like to take Med XP away from those that are there to level medic, but if no one else is around and I have med skills I heal the group. (often just with /tendd so they can get a little EH off of me).

Oh, and if you ever go to play on TC, drop by the NU Cantina to dance with 'Tess. She'll make you do Poplock2 the whole time if you have it.

'Tess loves Poplock2!

Your answers have already been stated (quite well, I might add), but please DO let us know which server you are leveling dancer on. I am sure you will find several entertainers willing to give advice as needed - and you may make some great friends, too. We really are a social, helpful group of people and love supporting other players as best as we can. We do heartily appreciate people like you who are polite enough to show us - and our profession - respect as they make their way up the path to Jedi. If only more wereas thoughtful as you . . .

Thanks!

Thanks for all the helpful answers. I must admit I am looking forward to the Dancer profession. I was pretty methodical in my quest for Jedi as after the holos and novice professions I did all of the marksman professions first, then scout, medic and crafting. Took a short detour from crafting to finish ID before the 8.1 publish (for obvious reasons). So, you are getting me after I have been sitting at a computer and clicking on the crafting screen hours at end. Not much roleplay or interaction there except for making a few things for friends and of course updating my wardrobe once I mastered tailor .

I had enjoyed Dancer while mastering Entertainer anyway (didn't give a chance to Musician partas I grinded through it by making instruments).

I am on the Scylla server and probably will be hanging out at Theed cantina. I am taking a short break from the game as my hubby will get upset and probably hunt me with his BH once I get to Jedi if I play during our vacation
