Thread: In-Game Campaign To Get Our Buffs Fixed (or when bad buffs happen to good dancers)
One might imagine that the potential damage to our profession will only get worse. When hologrinders are eliminated or drastically reduced in the Jedi Update, Dancers may become harder to find. Especially since the lack of attention for our flourishes and the broken buffs may drive lots of Dancers out of the profession. It has already been remarked that live dancers are kind of hard to find amidst the 'dancing dead' The potential new scarcity of dancers could drive the price of mind buffs up, as demand will outstrip supply. If by this point, mind buffs are not fixed, quick, and reliable, it is entirely likely that the profession could tailspin into a cycle of no confidence in dancer mind buffs, more dancers leaving the profession in disgust to support themselves in other ways, to higher prices due to that scarcity, to an unwillingness to pay for a buff that isn't reliable and so on and so on.
My own solution is that we encourage the disaffected professions that rely on mind buffs to express to the developers that Dancer Mind Buffs need to be addressed. Dancer buffs need to be fixed and put on a par with the buffs that Doctors have people standing in line for in places like Dantooine, Dathomir and soon, Endor when the Death Watch dungeon goes live.
The promise of new speeders, weapons and the much lusted after Mandalorian armours that can only be crafted at the dungeon itself will have more than just Melee classes looking for mind buffs. The artisans will have to go where the specialized drops and crafting stations are. And will need our services. Given the impracticality of getting a mind buff at a cantina that may not even last all the way out to wherever this dungeon will be, it may even be practical that we be given the ability to apply buffs in camps as well. The window of opportunity here needs to be siezed and stressed to the developers, and it needs to be done yesterday.
My proposal is that when giving buffs, we have a couple of /say macros like the ones I'm about to start using in the game before I make an attempt to buff folks. Here are the ones I mean to use:
1. TheWarningSpiel
/say Due to the dodgy nature of dancer buffs, unlike the doctors sure thing, I can't surely guarantee a 3 hour buff. You're paying for the time taken to try the buff, not the buff itself. Sorry, but Dancers are broken right now. Is this still okay?
2. Instructions
/say When watching, please type /watch instead of using the radial menu. We think using the menu is a cause of mind buffs failing to take. This will take 6-8 min. to do. Please let the devs know this should be fixed so we can help you reliably. ^_^
As I was typing this up in notepad, I was asked to buff someone for 5k in the Dantooine Mining Settlement Cantina. I made sure that I'd setperformed on him, I asked him to type /watch instead of using the menu. He was healing my action the entire time. I hit him for at least 12 minutes with non-stop Exotic4 flourish 1's, 2's and 3's. I did not fall once. (Amazing) And afterward? When he stopwatched on me and I looked away from him and looked back to see what happened? It did absolutely JACK for him. The sad bit was that he actually offered to try again after I refunded him his 5k cos I felt bad, inspite of the belief that I should be paid for my time and not the effect. I apologized and let him know I was so disgusted that I felt I needed to go out and shoot some of the galaxy's creatures to vent a bit.
Way to illustrate my point, eh?
Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.

We can already give buffs in camps. FYI.

I wholeheartedly support educating the general public about the problems in our class. After all, they are the ones who are affected. If I perform for someone and the buff doesn't take, it's thier loss not mine. I've posted in my server's main board on several occasions in an attempt to raise awareness of the problems we have. I've also posted in GCW forum on certain dance issues that I felt were pertinent to participants in the Galactic Civil War.
I strongly believe that it will take the support of the fighters we serve to really get any attention to this grossly neglected proffession. I encourage anyone to please continue to inform the general public of how much more effective we COULD be if only they would fix us.
However, we are not the only ones who are severly broken. There are a lot of classes who have also been waiting a long time to see improvements. Please be sensative to those members of our community who are also waiting to be fixed and may see our plight as an attempt to supercede thier own.
