Well...after much hard work, I FINALLY got what was, i thought, going to be my dream dance! As i was trying it was SO thrilled...i ran and started showing my friends what i could do...but then i got to flourish five and said, "What a second, WHAT IS THIS?" I was dancing basic again! Needless to say, i was VERY bummed. I guess when the powers that be were setting up the dances, they started getting bored or just reach crunch time? But, WHY then join basic & Lyrical? Why not make FORMAL the additional four flourishes? I tihnk formal looks a like more like lyrical then basic ever could. *sigh* Are they ever going to fix this?

you're preachin to the choir, baby...

I'll just take a deep breath, and say we feel your pain, and we're really hoping they fix it with ALL the flourishingly-challenged dances.

Unfortunately, that's right; you only get four flourishes with lyrical. And, of course, it gets even better because you only get two good flourishes with exotic and another two with exotic2. You're right that the formal flourishes would look better, but they still would not be a perfect fit. This is one of the perennial dancer laments, made worse by the fact that the dances that were finally given extra flourishes to make up the full set of eight, such as formal and poplock to name two that stand out, are very obviously hand animated, rather than nicely motion captured.

I don't think this will ever be fixed, but I constantly hope, against all odds, that it will be.

The real kicker is, to 90% of the people watching you dance, you look like your doing a jerky walk with your hand up in the air! A few people say they can see it fine, but I'm not really sure how. Same goes for lyrical2, butI think it hasmore flourishes. Haven't done that dance in a while, seems pointless if no one can see how elegant it is. Don't get your hopes up for Exoticdances either, they only have 3-4 flourishes too, and 4-8 are exactly the same

From what people tell me, they don't see any of the flourishes at all. ALL they do see is that unfortunate jerk. My husbands comp and mine are on a network and he sees it just fine half the time. Go figure. But whenI used to do it regularly, my guildies kept asking what the hell that horrible dance was and why wasn't i doing any flourishes. It sucks. I think lyrical2 is the best master dance, if people could actually see it. Much more to it than the exotic dances.

The problem with formal and lyrical (And to a lesser extent other dances such as popular) only happens when you don't flourish, and only other people see it. If you flourish constantly, it looks just fine. (I always flourish constantly on these dances because of that.)

I actually did some tests and it seems to be because when you are dancing, and moving around, your client is telling the server you're moving, and it's telling everyone else (Despite the fact that you are already dancing and the movement is just from the normal dancing) and so they see you walking around. When you flourish this doesn't happen. The difference is the base dance is interruptible (You start walking, it stops) whereas flourishes are not. If you notice, /dance never has a problem either, yet it is just like the lyrical2 base dance. But try interrupting it (IE walking) and you'll find you can't until it's finished.

You can actually do a few tests yourself. If you do rhythmic and perform flourish 6, you'll find the flourish is interruptible. You can move to stop dancing at any time. (Interestingly, if you move then stop, you finish the flourish, just like if you did a /wave or /bow or such and moved then stopped.) The other test is have someone else dance formal or lyrical and not flourish, then unplug your network. Suddenly they stop stumbling around and look just fine. Same goes for the other side too, if you are dancing formal or lyrical and unplug your network, you'll look just fine to everyone else.

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

Yeah, what is this about the Lyrical and Formal dances looking bad? I keep hearing that these supposedly look jerky or something to people who are watching you, but I've never really noticed a problem myself. About the worst problem I think I've noticed is a discontinuity when Lyrical cycles - I guess back to the beginning of the dance loop. Anyway I think there is one spot where my dancer is setting back up into a pose to begin the dance loop again, and there's a little skip or something there when starting to move again. This is about all I've noticed, but maybe I haven't been paying attention. I usually back my camera off so I can watch myself perform. Is the problem that others don't see the same thing I'm seeing? I was dancing formal with someone last night, and when she was dancing the basic loop, it looked more confused than what I was doing, but our bandflourishes looked the same.
